Flying Lufthansa B747-400 Business Class - The Last B747-400 Operator

- I travelled on Lufthansa B747-400 from Dubai to Frankfurt as part of my Chinese New Year journey to the U.S. The Lufthansa B747-400 made a comeback after months of grounding and uncertainties.
Lufthansa has its own lounge in Dubai but it is rather small and basic. After a short stay, I moved to the Dubai Airport Ahlan Business Lounge which has better food selection.
Once onboard the Lufthansa B747-400, I have the only solo seat in the entire business class cabin. The solo seat 4D, is in the middle of the 747 nose area. The seat is rather exposed without much privacy but I can get in and out easily. It was an overnight flight so the entire flight was in darkness. I enjoyed a quick snack and breakfast before landing. Overall, I am grateful to be able to fly on the B747-400 again, a proven reliable workhorse for the airlines.
This is just the first part of my journey to the U.S. on Lufthansa. Next week, I will share my video inside Lufthansa First Class Terminal and onboard Lufthansa B747-8 First Class from Frankfurt to Los Angeles.

I agree, I wonder if British Airways have any regrets grounding their entire fleet of 747-400s indefinitely?

And you know what else is a little funny ? Some avgeek also started to call the A330 known as The Butter Machine and i think that name is very logical because of it's main tilted landing gear.

747-400 was one of my favourite aircraft to fly long-haul, back in the day.
Particularly remember a BKK - FRA (Upper Deck F class) flight ... on LH ...
Sitting on the floor ... with the cabin crew ... playing with the only other F class passengers ... an 18 month old baby .. and his mother ...
Keeping the little fella entertained, we
raced little black and white Porche sports cars (LH gifts) up and down the aisle.
The crew from downstairs ... wanted 'in' ...
Those were the days ...

German people are very kind. I lived in Perl one time. I was working in Luxemburg. I'm in fact an ex SABENA staff. OPS manager. Happy landings :-) My godparent she was from East Germany btw.
As a former F/A, I'm amazed to see people with their shoes off (or wearing flipflops) or a blanket wrapped around them on take-off. They can NEVER picture the possibility of having to rapidly evacuate a burning plane across bring jagged metal with mere seconds meaning the different between life and death. My wife (also a former F/A) and I always wear sturdy shoes with laces, (she prefers hiking shoes) and we NEVER wear nylon clothes (which melt into skin when exposed to fire).

I love Lufthansa and Lufthansa is my favorite airline and I want to be a flight attendant for Lufthansa and I am working on my German and I can already speak a lot of German and I know that fluent German is a requirement for me since I’m from another nationality Ich liebe Lufthansa,es ist toll❤
KLM also had a throne seat in the front cabin of their 747 400.. which I tried out on a flight back from Shanghai before they were retired. Unique experience.

Lufthansa is also using the B747-400 on passenger flight from ICN these days. I think it might be the last airliner to put the B747-400 on a regular passenger flight. :)

indeed, I think Air China and Rossiya has a few 747-400 and the rest is all cargo/freighters now.

4:17 the classic beautiful noise of the 4 GE CF6-80 engines on takeoff. 8 remainning Lufthansa 747-400 will continue to fly until they will be retired in 2025. As always long life forever for the Queen Of The Skies.

Great vlog as always! I love the 747. The first time I flew the Jumbo jet was the 2nd dec 1983. LHR-MCT div to BAH due to bird strike. BAH-SIN-ADL-SYD. The return one month later, Jan 2nd was SYD-KUL-SIN-MCT-LHR. We was upgraded to C class all the was, both out and home. That vacation was an adventure! We visited friends in SYD for Christmas. I need to go back! Looking fwd to part 2 Sam!

Hello Sam,Thank you for the presentation with "The Queen Of The Skies" B747-400 as well as Lufthansa.
I have been flying on Lufthansa since 1985 and have flown on 747-200(Combi),LH747-400 and the 747-8.
My shortest flight with B747-400 was from TXL-FRA when Air Berlin ceased their operations.
The most unique experience for me was when Lufthansa had Flat Bed seat by the window on the Upper Deck.
Been a while since I boarded a Lufthansa 747 and look forward for the experience in the near future.
The seat 4D is indeed a unique seat on the B747-400 with Lufthansa.

my first one was with the Singapore Air BIG TOP! Mega TOPs and loved the 747 on Qantas, Korean Air, Delta, Cathay, the upper decks are great way to fly :)

The 747, the L1010 and the DC10 are my favorite airliners. I've flown on the L1011 and the DC10 decades ago. However, I've never been on a 747 flight! I hope Lufthansa keeps flying the 747 passenger jet for a few more years so I can experience it!
Great video Sam. P.S., you must have good discipline to not weigh 300 lbs with all the food provided on those flights and in those lounges!
Lufthansa has 14 747-8i planes that are only around 10-15 years old and they have no plans to retire them.
It’s already been said but I’ll say it again anyway. It’s good to see the 747-400’s flying for Lufthansa again. I think other airlines may follow Lufthansa’s lead and bring their 747-.400’s back into service. God to see you smiling 😊 again Sam.
May first long haul flight was onboard Lufthansa 747 from Hong-kong to Amsterdam. I didn't know that it was 747 until I saw the safety card. Really fantastic!

Back in 2020 I speculated that we won’t see the LH 400 for long. Thanks for proving me wrong. It is cool to see the 400 back on EDDF’s tarmac
Was lucky enough to fly on Lufthansa 757-400 in late 2019 from Frankfurt to Orlando and back. Economy though but what a cool aircraft. Was actually my Only return trip on a 747. Hope to be able to experience the 747-400 or 747-8 again.
The intresting thing is the Business are full of people... hope can be a good signal of aviation heavy comeback
