In the heart of Aveiro, at the Botirões pier, located in the mythical Beira Mar neighborhood, next to the traditional Fish Market, the boat trip begins along the urban canals of the Ria de Aveiro, aboard the typical boat called Moliceiro.
The Moliceiro ride in Aveiro lasts 45 minutes and travels through the four main canals of the city: Central Canal, Côjo Canal, Pyramids Canal and São Roque Canal.
The prices for a boat trip in Aveiro are defined for all boarding docks: 13 euros for adults and 6 euros for children from 5 to 12 years old.
By taking this tour of Moliceiro we are enjoying the living history of the city. In the past, these boats were used as support in the collection of moliço, an algae often used to fertilize agricultural land. Today, there are several boats with colorful and “naughty” panels that we see navigating the urban channels of the Ria de Aveiro. In addition to the Moliceiro tours, there are also tours on the Mercantel boats. This vessel is a little bigger than the Moliceiro and formerly had the purpose of transporting Salt from Aveiro and various goods between the riverside areas.
In terms of architecture Aveiro is considered the Portuguese capital of Art Nouveau with a set of 28 buildings in the city center such as the Fish Market, the City Museum and the Art Nouveau Museum.
