Drop spinning is very, very therapeutic to me. It helps me to relax as well as feel like I'm accomplishing something at the same time. I'm one of those people that have to be doing something at all times or I feel like I'm not being productive. And the fiber, is addicting lol I find myself constantly shopping and looking for it everywhere, and I LOVE it. Trying new fibers as well as blending a few I've learned a lot about the different textures and uses of all and it's intriguing to me. :)
Yep I've heard of frog hair, and I love my nano! And I do use it with the cigarette plug so I can use it at home (were are 12v solar) or in the car. I spin fine yarn and thick yarn on the nano, without any trouble, but definitely can't spin art yarn that has bits n pieces in it. I didn't find that there was a learning curve, probably because I have other electric wheels, my nano is my travel wheel I take to groups etc, because it's light and I'm now finding my other wheels are getting heavier each year to lug around. This wheel has the same issues as any other wheel does from tensioning to take up, but I love it and can recommend getting one. Thank you for your side by side review of the nano and a drop spindle, it was very good and you explained the differences clearly, thank you. Cheers!
Thanks Rayne! I’m interested in learning to spin and didn’t even know there was an electric option. After watching, I feel like drop spindles are for me and will allow me to make the chunkier yarn types I prefer.
Absolutely! Glad I could help. There are lots of electric and peddle driven options out there that are specifically designed for chunky yarns also. So definitely give those a look into as well, although they can be quite a bit pricier! Happy spinning!
I use a Russian-style supported spindle, and Turkish drop spindle (right now, I’m using a homemade popsicle-sticks-and-crappy-wooden-skewer Turkish spindle lol! Just waiting for my new proper set of two to arrive!!). Anything faster than those things scares me. I’ve tried a spinning wheel, and felt like I couldn’t control the roving; it just got away from me way too quickly. For me, spindles are much easier to handle.
Hi Rayne, I hope you're OK. I only started spinning at the beginning of this year, i use Drop Spindles and I love them but feel ready to try a Wheel. The Nano is the one I'm thinking of getting, so your video is excellent timing. Thankyou for the comparisons. Take care and stay safe Love Jen xx 💖
Thank you for this comparison video, I have been wondering if I should invest in an electric spinner as well. I hope to learn to spin mainly thinner yarns anyway, so this e-nano sounds the best option for that, but I wouldn't stop using a drop spindle any time soon. Can you tell me, where I can get the yarn measurement tool? What is it called or what word should I be looking for?
Hello! Welcome to my channel so glad you are enjoying the content! The measurement tool is called a wraps per inch tool (sometimes abbreviated WPI), they are available all over the internet, in fact I recently lost mine and was able to download a free copy online. You may have to adjust your printer and try a few times, but it came from Vampy and her blog. Hope this helps!
Hi Rayne, I've now got the Nano Wheel. I'm wondering how thick or thin the leader needs to be. Thankyou for all your videos. Happy Spinning Take care and stay safe . Love Jen xx 💖😘
That is awesome! I like to use just a regular fingering or dk, but worsted may work, just take it nice and slow. I recommend getting enough twist and hand wind the rest of the leader and a little of the yarn just to get it started. Hope that makes sense. Thank you Jen happy spinning!
Oh no! That is awful. Have you tried spinning it against your thigh? That could help, but definitely take it easy and take lots of breaks! Hope it gets to feeling better!

Yes! Absolutely, I still love using a regular spindle a lot of the times. I will try supported spindle spinning one day!
I use my nano for fine and super fine yarn singles, then ply on my Ashford kiwi 2. as for bigger yarns, I use my ashford kiwi 2. :)
I liked the look of the drip spindle yarn way more.

This is very valuable info, thank you very much!
You are very welcome so glad to help!
You could write on your drop spinner with an arrow labeled for spinning and a reverse arrow labeled for plying
I will give it a try! Thank you for the wonderful idea!

Thank you so much for your comment! I hope your spinning goes great! You stay safe as well!
I have never heard of frog hair. But I am new to spinning.
It is a very very thin wispy smaller than thread. Like less than human hair width I believe. Not sure who coined the term though.
@@RayneFiberArts what would you do with such a fibre?
@@phoebebaker1575 Some like to make very intricate very lacey shawls with it. I am not one for such a thin yarn myself.
@@phoebebaker1575 it would also be good to add highlights or lowlights
can i know where i can get this machine and what is the name of this machine
This is the Eel wheel nano by dreaming robots.

I alternate between my nano and Turkish spindles.
I am very excited to try a Turkish spindle! I love the way they look and function so much!
I spun my first yarn on a drop spindle, and after completing the task, my right arm ached for 2 weeks from turning the spindle.

I would have enjoyed this without the music background. It was very distracting.
I know I have since fixed this issue sorry the background is a bit too loud on some of my earlier videos! Thank you for your comment.
