    listening to this after finishing two tiny rolls of homegrown linen yarn. grown and made by hand from start to finish!! spun on a drop spindle!
    also don't do this in front of a cat. :( they think you're entertaining them. XD

      Congrats on the homegrown linen yarn spinning! That sounds like a pretty cool process. Did you grow it or someone you know? I've had the cat experience too, my sisters cats love when I spin.

      I am so inspired! How did you go growing is it flax, linen is made from? Where are you based? I’m in the tropics and starting to look into how I could make thread, yarn and fabric, do you have any SM accounts where you share your process?

      The later half of your comment made me chuckle. Now I'm going to have to build a drop spindle for my sister -in - law, she will be so made at me and love me at the same time

      My cats lost interest after one or two bops on the nose from my Turkish spindle after getting too close. I just have to watch they don't get into my roving lol.

    I tried it on my fine cotton yarn to thicken and worked good. Thank you so much ❤

    Yet again you have cleared the 'cobwebs' adhering to my fumblings with the drop spindle. Thank you for your clarity. I will now throw myself into it wholeheartedly.

    I know this sounds weird but when I made a primitive drop spindle w/ a pencil, cardboard circle (painted w/ gold glitter glue), and a cup screw hook, even though I'm right-handed, it was counter intuitive for me to hold the spindle in my right hand- the whole process felt better for me to do it left-handed- I don't know- maybe my brain works that way, or maybe I was left-handed in a past life, or something 😅

      That's so interesting! It's funny how our bodies do things differently than we expect sometimes😃.

      Most likely you were left handed to begin with, but someone "corrected" you on which hand to use when you were a toddler. Not many people who are naturally right handed end up ambidextrous, but most naturally left handed people do to some degree because most things in society have been built for ease of use when right handed

      I spin left-handed even though I'm right-handed, too

    A heavier wheel will give a better flywheel effect

    Hi, I was gifted some cones of machine knitting thread, would a drop spindle work to make the finer ones a ply to make into usable yarn. Completely new to this. Not sure i explained very well sorry and thankyou x

    • @TextileIndie
      @TextileIndie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think that would work. The thinner thread would make a very lightweight and delicate yarn.
      Also, mixing the weights of each thread (ply) could produce some interesting textures. It's always fun when friends and family give us their treasures - we can really push the creative envelope when it doesn't feel like we're "wasting" money experimenting with costly supplies. I would love to hear how your spinning turns out.

    I have a schact spindle with no hook. Help!

    • @trindal359
      @trindal359 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe there are different types. "Cup hook" is the brass hook with the threaded tip. Needs a pilot hole drilled first so its less likely to split, when its screwed in, i think.
      Maybe take it in somewhere and ask about it at like a yarn store or a craft store. There is a sewing machine store where i live and they have classes, so do some of the craft supply stores.
