Tour De Fleece Day 21 - Chain Plying the Gradient CVM - 07/24/2022
Hey everyone! In today's video we are finishing out the last day of the Tour De Fleece 2022. I know it's been a long time coming but stuff happens, and I wasn't able to upload this until now. I am so excited to show you how this bad boy turned out, if it did what I wanted and made a gradient, or if it all just fell apart and didn't do well. I will be showing you the results so make sure you are subscribed and hit that BELL notification so you can be notified of when I upload, which is super important right now.
I know it's been a while and this video is WAAY behind! I hope you all can forgive me, and we can finally move on to some different content. I loved doing the Tour De Fleece but videos every day was just too much and too boring for me lol!
As most of you know I am pregnant with my third baby and am due any moment now, so while I have some videos filmed and ready, I cannot yet promise a video every week. I really have missed you guys and can't wait to get back to my regular routine of spinning and working! I am so thankful for you all for continuing to watch and like my videos. Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart! Y'all stay safe and have a wonderful day I will be uploading the next few videos very soon! Love you all very much!

    microwaving is quicker, as they heat only water molecules. To clean the brown tips you can use vinegar, lemon juice or thin bleach.

    I think i should rephrase my question from old comment I made..Am still curious almost a yr.later & trying to figure out if it's possible 2 use this concept on 2 skeins of store bought #4 worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. Idk if the strands of yarn from ea.skein are already plied by machine when the yarn was made,or if that makes a difference or not(Id be changing a couple of things 2 better fit the situation tho,obviously..Like I'd put ea.ball/skein where it's easy 2 unwind & in their own seperate bowls beside me on the floor or up higher on a table. Also,would try to do the spinning after I invisble or Russian joiin the 2 ends 2gether & then see if I can make a slip knot or find a way to secure them on2 my spinner hook. Also after all that, I'd then try to start the twist by hand like u showed & attempt 2 keep the v shape & tension best I can while pulling up & using the slack of the continuous feed from skeins/bowls)...If it is possible 2 do w/the cotton yarn,,then what do u think about if I tried this w/acrylic yarn w.w.#4 (that I can def.say already looks plied) as well?? Hope this isnt too much of a bother & that I will hear some kind of feedback. Thanks so much 4 ur time & the great video..

    • @RayneFiberArts
      @RayneFiberArts หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it is possible. It would take a long time to untwist the already plied yarn, but if you have the time I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. I have seen others have to have too much or too little twist in their handspun skeins and have to re ply it. So I would think it would work the same way. I haven't really worked with cotton that much so I am unsure of it's properties on setting the twist. But if it has alot of "memory" to the yarn after it is un-plyed then you could try giving it a soak and then dry with a light weight to straighten it out some and then try plying it. I hope these tips help. Sorry if I don't reply or it takes a long time. Cheers

    I would really like to understand why you are doing that trick with your right hand -the untwist motion. It seems unnecessary. You let the twist into your fiber source. So if you’re untwisting, are you pulling less or more fibers from the v source???😮

    I originally started spinning after buying alpacas. Other than a little bit of practice wool, I have only ever spun 100% alpaca. I have so much and don't know what to blend it with/ don't want to ruin it by blending/don't know where to source blending fiber from that I don't ever blend my alpaca fiber with anything. I am increasing my fiber processing equipment and just bought some Valkyrie fine combs. Thank you for making this video so I can see how the finicky alpaca fiber works on combs.😂

    Hi, I just watched your video on washing and combing your merino targhee cross. I have pure merino raw fleece. my merino is only a 3" staple. It is so difficult to comb, card, drum card, I am so frustrated. actually carding was the easiest outcome, so I guess I will continue to prep it this way. I don't have velkryi combs, my comb and hackle is homemade by my husband, so it is not fine enough for merino. oh, well. I will continue to card with my carding paddles. Thank you for the video.

    • @RayneFiberArts
      @RayneFiberArts 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also found 3 inches is a bit short for combing but with enough patience it can work. It is definitely a pain sometimes and carding would be way easier and less frustrating. Definitely prep however you are comfortable, Thank you for your comment and watching :)

    Thank u so much 4 taking the time 2 show us this technique..I've been wondering 4 a good while if I could do this. Its actually 1 of the main reasons I looked 4 & bought a drop spindle(this & 2 make plarn yarn that is nice & twisted or maybe I can ply them too...I was wanting 2 ask tho,does any1 know if I can do this with like 2 skeins of store bought #4/worsted weight,100% acrylic or some acrylic blend yarns & also what about 2 sks.of #4 100%cotton yarn,or that $ tree 100% polyester chenille that's thin as #4or barely #5 guage yarns???

      4got 2 mention why I wanna do this w/2 skeins of w.w.acrylic store bought..I am knew 2 yarn crafts & just recently in last 2 wks.have learned basic crochet stitches,but b4 that have mostly been loom knitting for a few months. The 1st loom set I got(which has the 4 main looms I've ever used,although I have a martha stewart build a loom set 2),are the kinds w/like large/xl guage spacing btwn.pegs,& pretty much require u use bulky#5 or super bulky#6 yarn..Almost all the yt tutorial videos 4 loom knitting (& patterns u can find 4 free)show or requireIf using these looms & hardly any are for reg.or finer yarns..If u only have w.w.#4 around,then they usually suggest u hold at least 2 or 3 strands together in place of the chunky yarns,& that's what I have most of on hand. Can't always afford 2 go out & get some of the 5&6,when I already got a bunch of #4 on sale b4 knowing what I was doing..It's hard 4 me to hold the strands 2gether & not snag & pull off the wrong strand sometimes,so I want 2 ply the 2 together & am sure this will help...

    Fabulous video! Many thanks! Very helpful… I’ve got a very dirty but oh so soft alpaca blanket to wash so I’ll try the preflicking and multiple washes. The mesh style baskets are a great idea - the water seems to get better access to the fibres than with a mesh bag.

    I bought my Ashford e spinner last week. I am disabled and sometimes I am unable to treadle on my treasured Majacraft wheel. So far I have caught up with lots of plying I have been putting off because I don't particularly like plying!! At present I am spinning sock yarn. Singles at 60 wpi to chain ply. I was worried this little machine wouldn't cope with such fine yarn, which is my norm, and my very slow drafting (I find slow drafting much more relaxing) but it is brilliant. One thing I have found is to put the foot pedal on my lap and turn on and off with my hand which I find much easier than trying to find it on the floor! If my dog lies on it (she always sleeps by my feet) she may turn the wheel on or off at inopportune moments!! Also, being used to treadling I found I was turning it on and off all the time as I was 'treadling' whilst spinning!!
