Thank you for demonstrating this
You must have some really strong hands! Mine got tired and I had to take a break but I aspire to your level of steadiness
Great video!!
So ooo pretty. You're very talented. I like a shawl with yarn that pretty.
Love that color.
I’m spinning (trying) some merino combed top and having a hard time getting my wheel adjusted correctly or I’m not drafting it correctly. I have an Ashford traditional. I have to increase my brake tension to keep from over twisting so much that the twist goes too far into the unspun part that I can’t draft it. I get pretty good results with roving that is woolen prepared. I have separated the combed top into quarters and pre drafted it and still have the same problem. Any suggestions would be helpful.
When I was trying to spin the fur it was not working for me but this video really help ty so much for this video
Are you saying “VM”? Are you referring to poop?
So so grateful!!! I had been stuck not knowing how to even get started. Your post is the best! So simple and encouraging! Thank you! I’ve subscribed and will be watching your plying post next. 😊😊😊
If you don’t have the right kind of soap, you can pee in the water. No joke. Lanolin +urin makes soap. I used fabric napkins for my child and had homemade wool pants over, wool with a lot of lanolin. When the pants got wet, I just dried them, no bad smell, just the smell of soap.
Where can we buy this kind of wool? Merry Christmas 🕊️🎄
Wow! She makes look so simple, other videos left me kinda frustrated...I think I'm ready to try out my drop spindle now...of course I WILL be referencing back to this video.. lol
When you say you were ready for an upgrade, would you have preferred the eel 6.1, or something even bigger than that? I have been drop spinning for about 3 years, and am now debating between the nano and the 6.1. Trouble is that I only have a small ball winder, so if I get the 6.1x I am going to need a bigger ball winder, I think. Or I suppose I could Cut the yarn and start a new ball. 🤔🤔🤔
Very nice yarn! I have been spinning for about 3 years and have spun yarn that is useable but not as uniform and consistent as yours. I have an older (1960’s)Ashford traditional that is in good shape for its age with a newer flyer with plastic bearing holder and newer bobbins. I spin similar to the way you did in this video (short forward draw). My question is when I spin and draft out the twist goes too far into the unspun fiber and I’m not able to draft out the same amount of fiber again and I get thick and then sections in my fiber therefore causing corkscrews and then thick sections whit not enough twist. I have tried all kinds of brake tension adjustments to no avail. Do you have any suggestions that might help. Most of my fiber is commercially prepped combed top Corridale, BFL, or Romney.
Why don't you use soap in your first wash? I've been doing this for 40 years and have always used soap in the first, and second if needed, wash. I use very hot water, 150 degrees. Just seems to be a deeper wash that way, getting out more grease and dirt. First, I skirt the fleece quite mercilessly then shake the heck out of it so I don't have to deal with much dirt. The fleece you show actually isn't that dirty, at least not as dirty as some of the fleeces I've dealt with!
Yes, I’ve been washing fleece almost as long as you have but a few years back I learned about hot soaking first. I had to force myself to do it. 😂 The hot soak actually gets out a huge percentage of the dirt and lanolin and you won’t need nearly as much soap. You save on cost of the soap and you spend less time rinsing the wool. Now I always hot soak first.
@@dhurd4099 That sounds like a good idea.
That was helpful! Thank you!!
WOW! That's a super video 🎉
very well shot and explained ! i'm just starting to learn how to spin, and this was extremely informative, and didn't make me feel overwhelmed with terms i don't yet understand, and helped me understand ones i didn't know before. very well done, tysm for your work!
Nice, clear presentation!
Have you ever dryed them in the clothes dryer?
Thank you!
My roving (or whatever the lingua is to call it) is so tight. My elderly hands is struggling. Why is that? It was purchased, and by someone else, so dont know where it was vought from. And soooo dyed it stinks to me. Yikes, really painful. Yours looks so soft and east to pull.
Thank you so much. I have tussah silk I use to make doll hair and I've been wanting to dye some. This has helped so much!!!
This is the best drop spindle tutorial I’ve seen out there! Thank you so much for making this!
This is a very helpful video. I've been watching many trying to decide if I should buy this e spinner.
Oh my heck those are lovely together!
The right? from the fold
this is a great video! The process I learned from my spinning instructor is different, but this gave some great additional ideas
Thanks for this I have an e spinner . Been looking for just this info.
Hi! 😊 I’m all for learning everything I can about things. Both methods produced beautiful yarns! I don’t have a preference here. But I do wonder if the colors came out more clearly from the fold because of the colors and they way they are arranged in the roving. Another way to say it is, does spinning from the fold always make for clearer yarn. Some roving has the colors painted on. Whereas your roving seems to have started with already dyed fiber and then pulled in roving. Does anyone have any thoughts?
You can use the guard hair for garden compost and soil amendment. Good for roots and the worms will like it too.
You made this seem much easier than I thought it would be. Tried it on my Turkish drop spindle, it really pulls the fiber out so nicely! Thanks, I needed the technique.
I’ve watched a lot of tutorials on the last few days and this is the best one I’ve watched. I was in tears last night with a mess of woolen roving around me completely ready to give up. I’m glad I watched this today, I feel like I’m ready to give this another shot. You answered all the questions I had and troubleshot all of the things I was having issues with. Thank you!!!
This is such an awesome video!! Thank you so much. I’m not a new spinner but it’s never a bad idea to come check out how somebody else spins. I love your secret and will definitely try it during my next spin. Thank you for giving the world a nice, clear video on how to spin!
beautiful work and what is this type of spinner?
Thank you very informative. I looked for the large spindle you were using on Amazon and I think I located it.
❤
Thank you for this video! I’m still an absolute newbie compared to you but one thing is absolutely clear to me: it’s definitely important to take your time plying in order to get even tension between your two plies and not have one ply wrapping around the other one as opposed to having both plies wrapped evenly around one another. It not only looks better, it makes for easier knitting and crocheting. I’d rather allow my bobbins to fest for a few extra days to have them as equally relaxed as possible than rush it, and have one more energised which would make even plying harder. That means making sure I have enough bobbins to be able to start another spin so that waiting becomes easier. Best advice I got from other spinners when I said I wanted to by a spinning wheel: get extra bobbins. Even if the wheel comes with six bobbins (it did)… get a few more because you’ll end up wanting them. They were right. I ended up almost needing all of my bobbins during Tour De Fleece this year. If you’re spinning for a large project, you need a lot of bobbins. 😅
I don’t have sheep but found this helpful to understand what is done to it before I buy it as roving What do you do with your waist I would like to have a conversation with you
Gde moze da se kupi.hvala
You're so knowledgeable. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm so grateful
Did you say, "flicking the tips"…? What does that mean, please. What's the next step after washing, drying? Like, how did you get from washed, dry wool to the beautiful ball at the end?

Can you use husky fur?

No music, please!!!!!! Soo distracting!😊
So helpful thank you.
