- When Kemosabe the porcupine suddenly stopped eating all of his food and then stopped drinking water, we worked with our vet to figure out what the cause was. We then got to work giving him everything we could to get him healthy and feeling good again.

Are you saying hand-fed banana balls are not part of his normal daily diet? How could you! Thank for you helping Kemo out, he's how I found AWM so many years ago and all the work you do for him and the other critters has been so wonderful.
He and this channel are the ones that showed me such a thing as coendou existed.

Jessi, when my cat wasn't eating properly, the Vet Tech suggested trying baby food, specifically "Gerber's 2nds" (the meat/fish series). Even feeling poorly, she responded immediately to the "pop" when I opened the lids. Would anything like that would appeal to your wonderful critters when they're ailing?
It is not even fair in any stretch of the reality of the multiverse that there is only ONE Kemo. Oh my heart. I've been dealing with vertigo for the last 2 months, and of course, the sweet boy has to walk slowly.
I have no idea how you are able to keep Animal Wonders running, Jessi! With so many things that you have to take care of, you are a Godsend!
There's nothing like the relief when a sick animal starts eating. It's indescribable to know that a corner has been turned towards feeling better. So glad Kemo is feeling better.
As a pet owner, I DEFINITELY recognize that logical analysis of sorting through what's wrong with an animal, defining what success looks like (hoping he will eat bananas with Critical Care, and that exhausted relief you feel when they start acting normal (staying on his branch normally, and readily eating A LOT). Bless you and all of your staff for taking on this kind of care with so many animals. I'm sure the work can be fun and rewarding, but it can also be very stressful. Have a good week!

Kemosabe is such a star!
My cat stopped eating and drinking last year, and after the antibiotic jab started taking effect, and after she would eat just enough to get some tablets inside her, can't tell you how happy I was when she started eating again!
Thanks to the PDSA in the UK (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) whose staff and vets do such a great job
So wonderful that there are organisations and people like yourself who care for animals.

It’s cute how Kemo likes being pampered when he’s sick.
Having cared for my husband - diabetics can get recurring infections a LOT...and it can be super scary and frustrating. I'm glad to see Kemosabe is feeling at least a little better, and I sure hope that he can beat back this last stubborn bit of infection! I think he appreciates you a lot right now, because he IS used to you, and trusts you. He might not like the things you gotta do, but I think he knows you want him to feel well in the end!

Don't worry about us Jessi, we could happily sit & watch Kemosabe eat for an hour! Watching him take his usual food from his trusted human and make those insanely cute (although a little raspy!) vocalisations makes us viewers happy little _Homo sapiens_ too 😀 So glad to see he's on the mend, thanks for sharing! 👍
(P.S. That 'chamber' idea for giving him anaesthetic is brilliant - lower stress for Kemo & everyone else. Did he go under quicker/more effectively?)

Poor guy. I know he's old and he can't stick around forever, but I love the old curmudgeon so much! I'm glad he's starting to do better. I'll admit, after Kas passed I've been dreading the day when I see a video show up in my feed informing us all that our favorite long tailed spike baby has passed. I'm glad that wasn't this video, and I'm glad that besides this infection he's in such good health. It's just one more sure sign that AWM really is dedicated to doing right by the animals in your care. Thank you so much to the entire team! you are such a bright beacon of hope for me lately.

Omg, the title of this video illicited a very loud, distressed, verbal "NOOOO" from me. As a rodent mom I know how serious infections in the jaw can be, I also understand how old he is, for a porcupine, and how lucky we are to have had him for all of this time. I am still really rooting for him. I find porcupines a very easy species to relate to, weird as that me sound.
Kemosabe is the reason I love prehensile tailed porcupines. He is such a good boi and I hope that his discomfort eases soon. He deserves the very best!

I teared up when you said Kemo won't eat himself but if you feed him, he will. The amount of trust that shows is amazing, and you must make him feel safe. It really seemed to me that he was excited about those mini banana balls. I hope Kemo feels back to full health soon!

For me, Kemosabe is THE animal ambassador. He's like your mascot and is the one resident I think of first when I think of AnimalWonders, so I'm relieved to hear he's doing better. I hope he will get well soon and thank you guys for sharing this quirky and interesting guys life with us =)

I work as a vet tech w/dogs, cats and the occasional bunny, g. pig or hamster. I find it very interesting to see the medical care involved at your sanctuary as your animals are from other continents and very widely in species.

I am so absurdly emotionally invested in a one-toothed porcupine more than halfway across the continent from me.
Your work is so important. Thank you for taking such good care of your animals! It really opened up my eyes to how much effort is needed to take care of non traditional pets. I refused to get a bird (parrot) despite my love of them because I want them to have the best life they can.
