It says the can change the seats at their discretion when u buy a ticket. You follow their rules or fly elsewhere, but every airline has that same rule
I don't buy the BS about being their jobs either. You had 4 grown ass man to handle a single passenger. If you need to do all that damage to accomplish this, its just verbally and physically incompetence all around. They were absolute terrible at their jobs that day.
I believe those thugs who dragged him off the plane were all fired. The effing flight crew should have all been fired for calling airport security to drag a paying passenger of a flight so that the seat could be given to a United employee to get him to another flight to work. Send them on a effing BUS you bunch of assholes. I would rather walk than fly this scum airline.
Wasn’t their call to make, they were dispatched by their superiors to respond to a “belligerent” passenger, they asked him to vacate he refused and action was taken to remove him… it doesn’t make it right, but as the victim said they were doing their jobs, and the officers only know the orders they’re given in a moments notice. This is the problem of management.
NO. You do not forcibly remove a paying passenger, who is not making trouble, from a plane. You make an announcement that asks passengers to volunteer to give up their seats for a voucher.
They did no one offered to give up there seats so they choose people at random after he tried explain that he was opening a free health clinic for veterans the next day so he couldn't give up the seat so they knocked him out
His reaction is crying. That shows he is an empathic man who is in touch with his emotion and cares, makes sense with his career. And his actions after this just reinforce how good of a person he is.
Honestly, who would be ok with giving up their seat? I mean I picked out what day I wanted to fly and where I wanted to sit, and because y’all overbooked you think I should just willingly forfeit my seat with no questions asked? I think not.
@@sakurachristineito6428 what rights? Airlines are not public transportation, they are companies. You aren't entitled to anything. You get off and get compensated.

@@sakurachristineito6428 you are right it hasn't, however that doesn't change the fact that the airline has rights too. Did you know that the doctor who was "the victim" was originally removed from the plane, and then assaulted a police officer, pushing her on the jetbridge, and ran back onto the plane into the seat? That is why he was dragged off. But see, the media doesn't report that part so anyone that just eats up anything the media says only gets a half truth. The airline didn't do anything any that other airline doesn't do, and the doctor assaulted a law enforcement officer to get on property he had no rights to after his ticket was cancelled. So that is what actually happened, too bad the media never reports accurately.

The easiest way to get people off a plane when over booked is to offer enough money to get some one to switch. Just keep raising the offer until enough take it. I would take it for $1000. Much cheaper than $5M settlement and several billion$ loss from bad PR.

They violated his rights in so many ways like he was less than human. It was inhumane for them to treat him like that because they screwed up and oversold?? WHAT!! Didn't they say that they needed four seats? Who were the other three?
but is it their job or not? security guard is such a vague description and can vary greatly from one job to the next. for example: the guys that protect the president could conceivably be called "security guards", but because of where they are employed people naturally assume they could and would shoot you if you threatened/attacked the object they were securing (the president). I also consider airport security on a higher level than that of say a mall security guard. It really all depends upon their training and their employers. Clearly in this instance their training sucked. As did their employers as proven by the presidents real sentiments disclosed in that email. EDIT: nowhere in the story did it say that he was beaten up. It just stated that he received those injuries, which he probably got just from banging into stuff while being dragged - not by a direct assault. I know - it's a fine line, but probably not so fine in legal terms. ;)

He seems so gentle and kind. I’m furious that an airline would remove a passenger to make room for an employee and then remove that passenger with brutal force. Stupid airlines intentionally overbook their flights knowing they’re going to upset and inconvenience their clients. People will miss funerals, medical appointments that can be life altering or life ending, people don’t get to say goodbye to loved ones who are dying because the stupid airlines just don’t care. How about they fill the plane 95% and the other 5% of seats can be sold as standby plus another 10 standby tickets. They can use the 5% for employees if needed. When ever there is an issue where security get involved they will handle it with words 99% of the time and only use violence as a last resort. The police did not beat him but they allowed his face to go full force into the armrest across from his seat is what happened. Because, 3 police officers NOT security, thought a better option of instead of properly removing someone from their seat was to rip and pull an elderly man by his arms out of his seat sideways over his wife's armrest and her seat since he was seated by the window. It also looked like they didn't unbuckle him either when they were using too much force. When he got pulled out they let go of him and he went flying into the opposite armrest. Where another officer was standing beside the armrest did not protect the passenger at all. He could have helped catch him or even put an arm out to prevent his face from smashing into the seat. Then they proceeded to drag him out by his arms by 1 officer only with his feet dragging on floor. While the other officers walked behind the Dr instead of helping carry him by his feet after being badly injured he could have hurt his neck too luckly he didnt. He was wearing glasses too and they allowed his broken glasses all bent and out of place on his face instead of putting back on or carry them for him or even give them to his wife to hold on to. They did not tend to his injuries either couldn't even give him anything to clean himself off or to stop the bleeding he had blood dripping all over him. The flight attendants could have given him sum first aid as well but didn't. I just feel for anyone mistreated by any airline company especially bad mouthing a paying customer on top of that afterwards.

I believe those thugs who dragged him off the plane were all fired.
I know - it's a fine line, but probably not so fine in legal terms. ;)
Yes they weren't just "doing their job." They got a kick out of the power and authority and being thugs and abusive, treating an unarmed nice human being like less than. All profits for the plane. I can never forget this story and this beautiful soul of a man who didn’t deserve this.
I can never ever ever buy a ticket with United Airlines ever.
I just can’t and I won’t.
I am a lady, but I believe I would have done the same thing. For a broken nose, and concussion, and two broken teeth, the settle for me, would have been several times larger.

@@agentpiggles6685 It wasn't his fault

"They were doing their job." No, they were acting some role in their head and using their angry issues, their lack of humanity, empathy and respect to fellow human beings to do a job in a calm polite and respectable manner. This how many cops are also like. It doesn't help that all they get is maybe fired or demoted, or transferred. If it weren't for the video, the corporation and the security would have got away with it scot free. Telling people "he's belligerent, he fell on floor on his own." Disgusting people and company that it needs this to happen to "change."
exactly, if any job description results in demeaning other humans, that job should not exist
He’s the victim, if he says they’re cool then they’re cool 🤷♂️
Brings to mind the old "just following orders" defense
The guy let it go lead by example instead of trying to be some sort of cancel mob bs
I'd prefer to lose my job.
This is so horrible!!! I feel so sorry for the doctor and his daughter that this ever happened. Everything about this is so wrong.
Forcibly removed from seat to give it up to employees??? The guy booked and payed his seat wtf
The airline has the right to forcefully remove him from his seat. They still went to far though.
No. What happens is, they give you a seat on another plane that goes to the same location (country) in a couple of hours. But he mightve been in a rush to reach his destination ASAP. Its not like they were gonna charge him and not give him a seat on another plane.
Yeah, but when he said no he can’t, they should have asked someone else.
Courtney Gough Exactly
Poor man 😭 seemed like the cutest most sweetest man ever . All the trauma omg 😭
It’s disgusting to see how an airline treats their customers like that
Strangely enough its only like that in North America. Im from England and Ive been an airport manager for many years and Ive worked all over the world including China, South Africa, India and Columbia. When ever there is an issue where security get involved they will handle it with words 99% of the time and only use violence as a last resort. However in the USA it seems to be the first thing the security do, they like to use force. Its like all of the security guards are a bunch of angry guys. Its like that in Canada as well but they're not as abrupt as the Americans.
Its United Airlines. What'd you expect? They treat their own customers like Trash. I remember the story of that poor dog being put in the bag compartment, or that autism girl getting kicked out of the plane. The fact that they're still operating and haven't been run down into the ground still surprises me. Oh, also their CEO is a peace of S***.
@@Mike--Oxmall We've got a ton of angry men in America who just live for an opportunity to hurt someone. It's a failed state
This is why you shouldn’t overbook flights.
Airlines need to stop "over selling" their seats, and these kind of things wouldn't happen.
They oversell all the time BUT ask for volunteers to give up seats for a compensation and speedy rebooking. I got paid well to give up mine once and was only 3 hours delayed, i was not in a hurry and noone who was in a hurry had to stay behind. There are peaceful solutions, and overbooking gives us cheaper tickets.
@@pflaffik seems like a stupid policy to me on UA’s end.. greed is what it comes down to and they got caught up
@@pflaffik It should be purely voluntary. you didn't need to give someone a scheduled surgery at 8am the next day so it's no big deal for someone in your circumstances. he absolutely had every right to not give up his seat. rescheduling a surgery could take months on a waiting list. It's not like he was going to disney land.
@@goodnight360 what a dumb analogy. If airlines didn’t oversell seats, we would all have to pay more for our tickets. Grow up.
The seats were all taken and now they decided to bump a paying customer to give up his seat, he already told them that he had to be on that flight to go to work but the airlines refused to listen to him, why didn't the Airlines just increase the amount of money to someone give up their seat.
I switched to Delta airlines, not only do the miles never expire, it’s better in every way.
Delta is the best.
I'm willing to pay extra to fly Delta and avoid airlines like United
Delta and Jet Blue.
Delta flights always are delayed and are dirty.. but it is somehow better than United
Druid Rory Taven lol so do American and United ever heard of a regional airline?
Congratulations to the daughter for standing up for her dad. She's correct no one deserves that type of treatment.
*Imagine applying for United to be a flight attendant for the past 10 years and being OVERQUALIFIED for the job and getting rejected every single time. I’ve worked for the airline industry and have heard of way too many monolingual flight attendants that got hired by United in their early 20s without any prior work experience. Maybe if they had educated people, those United employees would’ve flat-out said, “No. He paid for his seat. Let him have it.” and all of this would’ve been avoided. They’re clearly hiring a bunch of idiots. I’m so sick and tired of them.*
*HELL YES it’s a fucking insult and a violation to reject someone that’s OVERQUALIFIED for a job CONSISTENTLY for an entire decade straight after back-to-back applications.*

The cops did that, no executives of United are responsible for that...
For what. It’s part of the agreement when you buy a ticket. They asked him to leave he didn’t. So he was removed.
@@emergencybearcedures4494 he got $100+ million settlement, and you sound like an idiot.
mgm mj Only because of bad publicity. What I stated was fact. The airline can ask you to leave. If you don’t comply they can forcibly remove you.
They beat him up so bad he didn't even remember them, and he forgave them. What a nice guy
How evil can people get??? So sad.
Well he could now laughing all the way straight into the bank..
