I think Dale is the perfect person to do the interviews because he doesn't talk over his guests and is genuinely interested in what he's doing and keeping the history of NASCAR alive .

Unfortunately, I was at the race where Bob Blaney was seriously injured in a dirt track stock car; Chevelle, as I recall. It was in Mansfield, OH; the season-ending Johnny Appleseed Race and his throttle stuck wide open on the last lap (49th?) going into turn 1. There was no fence, but a 3' high dirt berm. His car shot up and over the berm and he was launched down a very steep embankment. Seemed like 3 or 4 seconds before the car finally landed. It was terrible!!! They called the race and that was the end of the season. I can't remember the year for sure, but I believe it was either 1971 or 1972. I do not believe that he ever raced in a stock car again. As I recall, he was running in the top 3 or 4 cars at the time of the accident. Very depressing for everyone in attendance. Everyone in Ohio loved the Blaney family. Although I live in WA now, my favorite driver is Ryan Blaney. Always rooted for his dad, as well. I was so hoping that they would call the Daytona 500 the year he was leading and the race was red-flagged!!! He could have won races in better equipment!!!

He didn't really run stock cars regularly until he was in his late 30's. At that point, over half of his life was spent largely behind the wheel of a dirt car. I think it was just too much of a transition to overcome at that age. He fared much better that some of the other sprint car drivers that have tried to make the leap though, and didn't tear up alot of equipment in the process.
