    The ending of BlacKkKlansman where Spike tied it together with modern day news events was an incredibly powerful piece of film making. I think Spike may deserve best picture just for that "politically : EXTREMELY timely and relevant" aspect alone, considering he was robbed when Malcolm X didn't win best picture over Unforgiven in 1993. I still think Do The Right Thing is his best movie overall though.

      The irony however in that statement about deeds vs words is that most people who hate the President haven’t the slightest idea of what he has implemented while in office, and point to his tweets as proof that he’s “evil.” Deeds not words 🤔

    • @slavesforging5361
      @slavesforging5361 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Carfalog fair enough. but i think many of the things he's done don't involve policy, but are direct results of his political statements. Word acts are a real thing and the presidents words have created notable infighting, discord, and deaths in this country. one doesn't have to follow his policies to know that he's done horrible things. his words are actions. and they create effects.

      Trump is what dementia and senility looks like. I've witnessed 2 grandparents go through that long slide, and a 3rd is at the start of that slope. All three are/were fundamentally good men at their core. For the first two, as they went, you could see that goodness come through even as their own personal frustration and destress mounted. My remaining grandfather is going the same way.
      Trump at his core he is a nasty, hateful, bigoted, egomaniac. As the layers of his mind go, he can't hide what he is. He is America's racist rich (scam artist) white uncle, who will ensure we all burn with him before he shuffles off this mortal coil.

      I am not a friend of Duke (that's easy to understand as I am black).
      But I think that most people put David Duke into the wrong corner. I don't think, that he is the most hateful person - he is not the mud-violent and dumb nazi. He is a collaborator and even a beneficiary.
      Let me explain: I believe, that Duke believes what he is preaching and that he really feels, that minorities get too much attention - while white people are painted always as bad. This creates the illusion for him, that white people are at a disadvantage!
      He basically sees himself to change this. He is for sure racist - but this doesn't blind him from the fact, that black people also accomplished a lot.
      And basically he sees some black people like Spike Lee as "worthy opponents" which are rightfully standing up for "their people". He probably sees that there are a lot of "exceptions" - where black people are good leaders, good sportsmen, good entertainers etc.
      When I was young, I was "friend" with a guy, who was clearly a racist and basically a young Neo nazi (definitely in his views). When in a discussion I asked him, why we are meeting and why he accepts me, he responded, that "he thinks that I am different". I believe, that applies to a lot of racists. Their wired reasoning is, that their pre-conceptions are right - even though there are decent people from other ethnicities - because those are not the proof, that their concept is wrong, but they are just the exception.

    • @a-filipov
      @a-filipov 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's full of himself. The Blackkklansman could have been an amazing movie because of the premise and the message, but instead was a hodge-podge of genres without soul. It tried to pull on emotional strings without developing any of its characters. And let's not forget the evil characters, who were simply evil. Don't get me wrong, people like that do exist. But portraying racist caricatures does not help one's cause to further discussion on why tolerance is important. The only thing I liked in the movie was the chemistry between the main character and the progressive cops.
      Of course, that's an opinion.

    I don't mention his name neither. Not because he represents anything special, only that he's more like a clown anyway and I'd rather go after Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham. Really, agent Orange is nothing more than the product of republican buffoonery.
    I can almost say that doing the opposite of republican actions is always right. And that's ridiculous, correct? I'm sure even republicans like the idea of breathing air... not clean air, one polluted by companies with nothing to force them to take more environmental friendly options. Drinking water? See Flint. Veggies, surely! Yeah, food sanitation is overrated. Good health!? Only if you pay. A bloody roof where you sleep? Sure, if you inherit enough.
    And that's the tip of the iceberg. You can find more than a few democrats guilty of promoting similar ideals (tough on crime Bill Clinton, friggin' Lieberman) but those are at best hypocrites. Republicans don't only adopt a double standard of morality, they also promote things we've been taught are flat out evil. If slavery was around today, these same republicans would tell the slaves to pull themselves by the bootstraps.

    Words are cheap and deeds aren't cheap! Trump can talk the talk. But so far, he hasn't walked the walk.

    Over the last 30 years I haven't always agreed with Spike Lee on everything... but isn't that the point of great artists... to provoke what we think and examine it? He's completely right here though.

    Personally, I think that the SDNY gave us the perfect nickname for Trump in their Cohen inditement: "Individual 1". It's perfect because it identifies him as a criminal co-conspirator, while also having the anonymity that must be unbearable for someone as narcissistic as him.
