Such wonderful videos, I’m learning so much! We are getting a Wirehaired Griffon in Aug for upland bird hunting and as a family dog. I ordered a Ronnie Smith Kennel training book just before finding your channel, after thumbing through the book I found your methods more attainable and decided to return it. I’ve owned rescue dogs in the past but never a puppy so I appreciate that your videos encompass A to Z whereas the book just focused on bird training; potty training will be new for us. Keep up the good work folks, I appreciate you!

Is there a reason you aren’t using the clicker for this bit of training?

Hey, I got a 9 week old lab female with hunting lines, but she isn't that interested in the bumper. She likes playing tug of war with ropes and chasing around empty water bottles, but once I get the bumper out she will go get it and bring it back once or twice but then looses interest. I saw the way the puppy in this video went after that bumper and want that! Should I just be patient?

I cannot seem to get my 3-month-old puppy to not want to sniff everything and not pay any attention to me while outside. Will she grow out of this? Thank you for the video, I have been using them religiously.

How does this training translate to pointing breeds?

My puppy is 10 weeks... he is very playful and follows the toy for a good 5 mins and switches to trying to take bites at me non stop. Keep shoving toys at its face and ignores it and comes for my arm. Even with fetching.. he brings it back a good 10 times and starts to bite me non stop. Treats are given when I see good behaviour but sometimes I feel he forgets everything after a nap.

10 retrieves in one session might be too much for a 10 week old puppy try 4-5 and end your session on a good one with no mouthing. Some of the mouthing might just be a over tired puppy. Less is more when doing retrieving at a young age. You want to end the session w them wanting more !

Don’t overdue it cause when you do your puppy gets bored with it and thinks he can go do whatever. Bad behavior to instill in your puppy, because now he thinks he can just retrieve when he wants to.
