I think Angel Studios is the Distributor and helped produce it. Nothing more. It is not a Catholic owned Studio from what I gathered. While I think the Director is Catholic, it was made with the idea of being distributed to a wider audience beyond Catholics. I have not seen the movie but the clip I saw of Pope Leo XIII and Mother Cabrini I think did capture The Pope accurately. Pope Leo XIII was very concerned about industrialization and how it could be used to exploit workers hence he issued Rerum Novorum a papal encyclical highlighting workers are entitled to safe working conditions, fair wages while affirming the rights of property property and business, entrepreneurship and free enterpise.

Very touching to see a woman with a zeal for a mission. Thank you for bringing this movie to light on issues of immigrants arriving in America. I came to this country at the age of 14 escaping from communism 42 years ago and was in the foster care system. The fruits of Mother Cabrini paved the way for someone like me to succeed in America. One of the best movies I have ever watched. Of course the story St. Cabrini is deeply moving, the bleeding hearts of immigrants are yearning for dignity and the challenge of accepting the other is ubiquitous, but, beyond all that, this movie is true piece of art. The attention to detail and the artistic effects are subtle yet sublime. Thank you for this amazing work. I cried with joy, compassion, ambition, love and hope for humanity. Io sono un emigrante.

I recently saw this movie & thoroughly enjoyed it. The only problem which is a huge problem is Jesus was not mentioned at all. As a Catholic which is really irrelevant, any Christian or even non-Christian would expect a Canonized Saint to be praying to Jesus throughout their lives. Giving thanks for his help/ successes and praying for assistance during times of difficulty. Which as the movie clearly depicted Mother Cabrini had many difficult times. But no praying to Jesus/God. We can be certain she did and that should have been shown. I hope Angel Studios will do more movies about Catholic Saints in the future. I trust this oversight will be corrected in the future. You can always consult EWTN, the Vatican, or other trusted valid sources to obtain information accurate/true information of the Saints.
Adding the Saints prayer life to any future movies about them is something that your audience will expect as that is truly an accurate presentation of the Saints life. Thank you. Please keep making wonderful Christian movies/series. I love the Chosen. I’m praying for your success. May God Bless you.

What's disturbing is that they did have Catholic consultation when making this. But Angel Studios doesn't actually value Catholicism. They hide it. They hid her devotion to the Sacred Heart and depicted her as a social worker. Not okay. We are too desperate for a Hollywood alternative so the faithful are accepting Angel Studios despite these facts. Well I'm not. Didn't see the film and I won't. Good cinematography is not what seculars need. They need Jesus, undiluted

I was a Catholic turned follower of Jesus Christ; but I have Catholic friends that faithfully follow Him too. This pope is not a Christian, so I cannot, in good conscience be joined to that religion any longer. And there are other precepts like the worship of Mary that are simply not biblical.
That said, I am also very disappointed that Angel Studios did not bring Christ into the picture. It would have made ALL the difference.😢

    • @elizabethc4207
      @elizabethc4207 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

@@jimcastiglione7657 Jim, as I'm sure you have heard repeatedly, we don't worship Mary. Why don't you ask God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to show you the truth about the Catholic Church and Mary? Knock and keep knocking.
We are in the Catholic Church because it is the Church Christ instituted, and like Christ, his Church will go through its Passion, and so we remain faithful at the foot of the Cross of the one true church.
Whether the Pope is good or bad is not for us to say, as we have the example of Jesus who never treated the perfidious Apostle, Judas, any differently than the other Apostles, leading to their confusion at the Last Supper on who would be the one to betray him.
In fact, we know from the Mystical writings approved by the Church that before Judas fell to greed, he became consumed with pointing out the faults of the other Apostles and distanced himself from the Blessed Mother. Two things for those of us who love Jesus to be very wary of.

The movie in itself is an amazing production. However, it only focuses on the human effort and succes rather than including how it is God who made all things possible like all saints always say and give all the credit to God. I saw the movie and loved it but did notice the lack of prayer, and asking God for help. I say this with the best of intentions so that in the next productions God can also take part in amazing movies like this.

I think that's a very good and important point. If you take out prayer, the source of her strength and love, then you miss the very heart of who Mother Cabrini was and the reason for her being. I have seen this in many 'saint' movies where the filmmakers seem afraid to portray, or perhaps are just not personally familiar with, the interplay between deep prayer and action. I think of the Ignatian idea of 'contemplatives in action' and this is what often fails to be communicated. Without this, we are simply seeing the modern notion of a social justice warrior. It isn't a true portrayal of those who love and follow God with their whole heart, mind, and soul.

The actress was wonderful, and the film delivered many powerful insights about perseverance, assertiveness vs. obedience, women in the Church and in the world, the plight of immigrants, poverty and sexual violence, hypocrisy, sexism... I could go on and on. Some say it didn't show enough of the sisters' prayer life. I would have liked to see that, but it did touch on it; the message the film ended up with was more universal.

Kudos to Angel Studios for doing films like this. But. Many reviewers are correct in asking, "Where's Jesus?" How can you have a movie about a saint that's devoid of any mention or even whisper of Jesus's name or any explicit reference to God?
Why the fear to mention "Jesus" when He was who she was all about, who she was really serving. When people go to watch a movie about a saint, they expect to hear very overt religious themes and references so to exclude these is not only disappointing but also a lost opportunity to evangelize.

Prayer is sustainable engine that empowers women or men in the extraordinary work in Christ's service.
The Holy Mass, celebrating the Eucharist was also absent from the story?
These are two serious deficiencies Catholics would find strangely absent from this remarkable story.

He was born at home and had one leg shorter than the other and had to wear a brace as a child and had a bad limp for the rest of his life. She was a wonderful woman

I couldn’t feel more different from the criticisms that say there is a lack of “Jesus” or “God” in this biopic. For me, seeing the work of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini is more than enough of a show of such things including the fact that she is a nun, I don’t think it has to be more spelled out personally ❤️

It is a great film. Regret that moments of solitude such as looking out the window could have been dramatic prayer. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is never stated even when Mother Cabrini is forming a wonderful relationship[ with the prostitute who is reforming her life. She was noted for her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and her love for the poor. Frances Cabrini became the first American Saint for these two reasons plus the miracles. Pope Leo found his perfect weapon to battle Satan and sent her to America!

The spiritual fortitude of Mother Cabrini and with the grace of God turning a "no" into a "yes" in the patriarchal structures of the early 1900's was a great message of Christian feminism then and now. Hope you see it everyone. The Italian Community's contribution to tell an important story of the immigrants realities and the power of a community working together is affirming for us today ❤

Dear Friends, Great music, atmospheric, handsome camera work, lovely and good actors, etc. I got lost though, a nun says, 'we must trust in ourselves'? This is a nun. So no mention of trusting in God and of having sought God's wish and will and attributing to God our strength and purpose in following God's lead, in having been provided for to achieve what has been laid out to do by God, none of that in the opening scenes? So far this is presented as good works of people unaided by a higher force, and has become silly to me if extremely well done. Thank you for sharing this clip. I appreciate that. Sincerely, V

It was very prescient of the Holy Father to send Mother Cabrini to NY at that time, where the ripple effect of her work and her status in the Church were profound. If she had gone to China, her work would have been cut short with the advent of communism, where the scourge of atheism dominates until this day. This movie will touch millions and perhaps lead to thousands of converts.
    Grazie, Angel Studios!

I went to see it last night... I loved the movie. BUT at the end I thought her comment was too feminist.... I'd have never pictured I humbled woman of God being so proud, the end did not reflect the great faith in God and endurance that it took to accomplished what she did. She never gave God the glory of the miracle of her life. This is how she looked to me at the end. I also noticed, even though she is a nun. has the cross around her neck, the Pope is in the movie, she never mentioned her gratitude to God., never prayed, she never invited others to come unto Christ. I very much doubt the real Caprini was an ungrateful to God, arrogant woman full of pride. I think the director wants an Oscar and decided Hollywood would probably appreciate a feminist immigrant that never mentions God.

“humility,” in the bible is often misunderstood. The literal definition of "Anavah" in Hebrew means to occupy your God-given space in the world-to not overestimate yourself or your abilities, but to not underestimate them.
This is not a Catholic film, it was intentionally made to not be religious or preachy. The producer intentionally planned to tell Cabrini's story in a way that honored her and yet make her accessible to anyone including a Protestant, Jew, Hindu, Muslim or non-religious person. Sometimes it is better to just give people enough to make them want more, some will want to know her story, read a book, watch a documentary or find one of the shrines or museums.
1890s women couldn't vote She was the ultimate underdog as a tiny woman, catholic, nun, an Italian and DYING.
She was not arrogant...She was determined, resilient, and motivated by her convictions, She also knew her times short away. This is how God made her, it is her divine DNA to carry out the calling he placed before her.
What the film does show is the life being and answer to prayer. She lived as the hands and feet of God. How many people talk but don't walk. They go to church but their life is about themselves and a mess. They did insert a few moments of her faith, like when she told her nuns before she left for Rome, "They can do all things in Him", which is Cabribi's life verse Phil 4:13 If she had not been determined to not take no for an answer, her heavenly mandate would have died with her, not to mention how many other souls. This takes courage, to fight the good fight of faith until every door that was once closed opens.
That is what this film tried to display, she as a woman in 1890 was an overcomer, she revolutionized hospitals, schools, and orphanages globally. As I said before, the curious will seek her out and find the greater depths of a women they probably never would have before.

I read her life story from a book my parents had from long ago. In her Bio, all she did was pray to God for everything she needed to get done. She trusted her life and works to God, too bad they did not add this in the movie.. She loved Jesus so much she did everything for Him. She even called Jesus her spouse, all she did was for Him.

18:40 - "... and give the abandoned children the love they so badly need." ---- Some complain about the absence of religiosity in the film. Some mistakenly label her work as "social justice." But love and justice are hardly the same thing. Love is not duty; it is grace. Giving consistent love to an orphan is as Christian as it gets.

    Can't wait for Bonhoeffer!
There's so many more amazing stories in Christian history, and I hope they make actual good movied out of all of them. Hollywood always butchers them, by satanically going out of its way to rewrite history just to throw mud in the eye of Christians. It's despicable and so obvious. I'd love to see some really well made historical dramas about the early church fathers, and also a lot of the history of the medieval period.
What would be really amazing would be an epic series that follows church history all the way from the book of Acts to the modern era. Like 20 seasons, just keep going! People would definitely fund that.

A movie about a Catholic saint and Jesus Christ isn't mentioned one time... She wasn't some empowered social justice worker, she was a devout Catholic with devotion to the sacred heart of Jesus. This film completely gutted her faith, the source of all her strength and grace.

    • @maryleone2023
      @maryleone2023 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

You did not see the entire movie. The ending commentary states she was canonized. The film shows a nun. All nuns pray actual prayers and became nuns due to their faith in God and Jesus. The Sisters of St Joseph taught us that work is prayer, when it is dedicated to serving others. The film shows a nun, dedicated to serving the poor, abandoned and marginalized outcasts of a cruel and heartless society. Mother Cabrini made people who were made to feel worthless into valued children of God.
Her work was her prayers. Of course, she prayed as all nuns pray, but you don't have to go to a movie to see that. If you want to see people pray, just go to church.
