I actually think the idea of the Doctor and Mel being the 10 billionth customer (or whatever number) and winning a prize was a very inventive way of throwing them into an adventure. 7/10, a fun little romp, the target novelisation is great.
50:14 the "Hoist with his own petard" quote was said by Troughton in War Games Part 5, Tom Baker in Nightmare of Eden Part 4 & the Master in Kings' Demons Part 2
47:40 Not Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee", but Charles Williams's "Devil's Galop". It became the theme-tune of the radio series "Dick Barton, Special Agent", which was very popular in the 1940s and 50s.
Delta and the Bannermen is a pleasure to watch, not a guilty pleasure , a real pleasure - as was this video. I really enjoyed spending an hour watching and listening to two people talking so fondly (but not blindly!) about this little gem. Thanks Matt and Jonathan (Mc)Toffolo!
I'm a big fan of Delta and I really enjoyed this episode. The Toffolo Bros always entertain. Lots of fun banter. Jonathan's 7th Doctor Cosplay is a win!
1:04 - the story tells us that it is based on the idea of a worker bee eating Royal Jelly and becoming a Queen (although I think scientists have now discovered that that isn't actually the case).
This is definitely one of those more fun feel-good sort of stories! It's just nice, not every story needs to be some incredible 10/10 masterpiece! sometimes it's just good to have a fun little adventure, nothing too special, just a bit of fun and this story is *that*
41:29 Apt in the story to reiterate change within a species, slight side step from the bee hive business they've been focused on; but brilliant, brilliant Hugh Lloyd performance.
Delta and the Bannermen sums up my overall opinion of Season 24 in general. It's a fun bundle of chaos that gets lightly pushed from A-to-B by extremely simple plots, so it's the type of season where you really need to be in a particular mood (or simply turn your brain off and let yourself get dragged for a chaotic holiday). As someone who greatly appreciates a bit of darkness or seriousness, there isn't enough to balance the sheer panto campiness at times, so I don't enjoy S24 as much as S25 and S26, but I understand the 50/50 between loving it or loathing it.
Season 24 was the first Doctor Who Blu-ray set I bought, having found out about the sets a little later than most other people. It was pretty much the first time seeing the episodes, apart from Delta and the Bannerman which I remember seeing parts of when I was younger (I am an early 2000s kid who saw classic series episodes prior to the revival due to Australian TV re-runs). Overall, I really enjoyed the whole experience and have gone on and bought almost all the other Blu-ray sets in the collection. Still waiting for my pre-order of season 22.
1:07:00 I've over commented!!! Sorry. xx But it is because I'v enjoyed this Review of Death. It is very nice to see brothers getting along, let alone Doctor Who fans :p
You Win Again is a great song, the BeeGees never really stopped, everyone knows their late 70s stuff, but they were releasing new music from the mid 80s all the way until the early 2000s, YWA was their last number one, but it's a terrific bit of music. They're my favourite band, so I have to chip in on that, even though it was an incidental point to the video.
I enjoyed Chibnall's interview - can't stand his era but he interesting comments to make. He doesn't come over as an especially effervescent person. I felt a bit sorry for him with how the reality of production scuppered some of his intentions. 1987. As a bit of trivia - the film White Mischief - when it was released on video there was an issue with including the George Fenton soundtrack so Keff McCulloch of all people was hired to do a replacement. A few weeks before we'd had the famous storm of 1987 that took out a few big trees and buildings ( we got the day off school it was wonderful:)). I was 8 when the story went out. I remembered it feeling weird and not like Doctor Who as I was used to. I think the direction is the biggest issue - it needed to be more stylised but Chris Clough shoots with all the charm of a 1987 episode of EastEnders. The music is fun but monotonous and it really should have changed tonally when the bus is destroyed but no one had the sense to do that.
51:28 Bee behaviour typified (also Garonwy's honey "being wasted" - what is renewable is useful not wasted; I felt appalled first time I saw that scene, then remembered I'm human not bee)
I think ssason 24 is probably one of the most underrated seasons. A lot of it probably wouldn't work today but it's just so fun. I find both delta and paradise great guilty pleasures and the score is great. I'd rather have this then let's say legends of the sea devils which I just found bland
24.00 Just. thought: Delta is the queen; thus who is the father is irrelevant; the green Chimerons are drones. The bee analogy on Earth underpins this. Eating royal jelly is how motor bike man will perpetuate survival of the the drone race by becoming one. Bee hives change every aspect of their inner culture based on who eats what.
It's not the worst, but along with Time and the Rani, it is the worst of the McCoy era. I mean I'm happy for you if you can find something to enjoy in it, but it's drek.

Happy 953rd birthday to Johnny!

Also the Surprising Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar.

Always had a soft spot for this one. Sometimes all you need is a fun romp and this one delivers
Who doesn’t like Enlightenment? Great underrated story.

Yeah, pretty cool cosplay, the outfit looks spot on.
He looks great in it very well done it looks spot on
50:40 - The War Games - Episode Five
DOCTOR: Hoist with his own petard.
Hang on, is that THE brolly? The one with the stolen clasp?
It is! 🤣🤣🤣
Great story from season 24 and always love hearing Johnny’s facts about the McCoy’s outfit. Also love the cheeky Bottom reference as well 😂
1:04 - the story tells us that it is based on the idea of a worker bee eating Royal Jelly and becoming a Queen (although I think scientists have now discovered that that isn't actually the case).
Great review as always. I saw Ken Dodd at the Hippodrome as well.

Room 101 refers to a torture chamber in the Ministry of Love in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

If you can get a Bottom reference into every review, I'll be a very happy man
I will not hear any slander about this story is just a fun silly adventure which is doctor who at it's best!

Planet of the Ood revisits the idea of a human becoming an alien purely by ingesting a liquid.

I always thought Goronwy was supposed to be a Time Lord too! The character had that sort of mystery about him.
It's rlly nice to hear the same opinion on this story! :D

Still my favourite title sequence and theme tune! Love 7s era on the whole. Maybe just not Paradise Towers😂
55:09 Not exactly, but a little bit "Idiot's Lantern"
Heef here,
I stand by my opinion... BUT time lash is equally as bad
Room 101 is reference from 1984
They should do a new showrunner change over
i think by delta he was the 7th Doctor
It's shite as a story, if it were a novel, it'd suck. However, it's fun!
Room 101 comes from 1984

Delta and the bannermen was A BAD EPISODE!!!!!!!! (My dad said that lol)
I gave up after the first episode of Delta purely because I couldn't cope with how terrible the fake Welsh accents are lol
