To anyone who might have voted in the poll - don't worry! Instead of choosing either Architects OR Deftones... I am doing both! Architects to come next ;)
Andrew Baena - awesome video dude. And great guitar tone, and guitars. Only thing i have to ask is where is the nine string
Andrew Baena - nevermind. I just noticed the last strinh
Both equally great bands cant wait for architects you rock man horns up
How is architects gonna be able to tune even lower than F#? Haha
LTD SCT-607B
Diamond Eyes sounds brutal.
Thanks man!
It sounds like it was taken out of the Doom soundtrack !
Check the cover by Apparitions band
Deftuggah
I went to see them in Indianapolis when they toured for Gore. When they played Diamond Eyes the guitar had a way different sound then I have ever heard before live. It sounded way heavier
Engine No. 9 in Drop C is just Elite lmaooooo
lol kinda!
Yeah kind of but I'm guessing Chino wanted something similar to elite. Deftones heavily focuses on how they want their songs to sound like and I'm guessing that both elite and engine no. 9 is almost similar riffs. But for some reason kind of reminds me of Suicide Silence when he did Engine no. 9
I think it's more on Stephens part since he re uses a lot of riffs, cause engine no 9 is older than elite, but yeah they definitely focus on the feeling of the song more than the versatility of the riffs
There's an interview here on TH-cam called "Conversations with Steph and Chino" that they did for Jim Dunlop. About half way through the video Chino tries to explain their process for tunings in an abstract way and then Steph just says "Here's the beauty of it: You can change the tuning and play the exact same thing and it becomes new." The look on Chino's face once he says that is priceless.
Same frets different order...its 0202320202x3 then 3..6
Stephen Carpenter is honestly pretty underrated his approach might be simple but it's also unlike any other I think you did him justice with this video.
😎👌
Yep, that's the great thing about him. The riffs are pretty simple, but nobody else really plays 8-strings in that way.
(Though I do wish the bass was a bit more prominent in the mix sometimes. Swerve City sounds disappointingly thin, for instance.)
@@theliberation9061 yeah man I hear ya, The first time I heard deftones was when I listened to their adrenaline album I hadn't started playing guitar at that point and didn't have the musical comprehension I do now but even back then could I hear something that was unique and unusual in the sound I was hearing.
Sergio's style is different than Chi's, but he has his moments. Beauty School, Sextape, Leathers, What Happened to You, all solid work on his part, without going too simple or monotone
Swerve city literally has a bass solo in the first verse
Stef just got a custom 9 string, so the next album will probably just be this.
Now he has to stop and rewrite the whole album because he saw Andrew Baena cover it already
Rammstein till
Stef got a custom ESP 9-string a few weeks back. If the low riffs sound like the last two here, then I'm pumped for the new Deftones album.
Deftones in any tuning works.
The extremely good news (For anyone unaware) is that Stephen Carpenter was recently seen brandishing a 9 string LTD with his signature fishman fluence in them. Deftones 9 string material boiiiiiiis
Hell yes, I was hoping he’d jump onto the 9 sting wagon!
The spell of Mathematics
@@KaiserBruh a solid banger
djentones
Damn doomed user and diamond eyes is sick down tuned
I actually thought Diamond Eyes was the one that sounded far better in it's standard tuning.
Diamond eyes was just straight guttaral, i'd love to hear a full cover
Where's Pete and his tuned up version.
Tight, love deftones
What if Meshuggah tuned up
LOL
noise metal
What if Ariana Grande tuned dow
What if Andrew Baena tuned down
What if my dad never left
Abuv Entertainment - may you live a happy life
There has to be real instruments to tune down.
What if King Diamond tuned up.
*_Guys, if we scream "PERIPHERY" at him enough he'll do it_*
First track on the list: Hell Below
The Liberation Oh, definitely, I've always thought that just a Db isn't low enough.
[with an octaver down on the guitars because the tuning is not a low enough layer of Hell]
Icarus on a 9 string
*yawn*
That was kind of a poor representation of Be Quiet and Drive... but then again if you wanna hear that song in B just listen to Send the Pain Below by Chevelle
Broken Archetype Chevelle constantly stealing from Deftones and Tool smh
Lmaoooo
@@CountSnaqulathey all stole from helmet
Funny how I discover this video on the same day where Steph Carpenter announced he now has a signature 9-string from ESP.
my own summer sounds siiick
I'm afraid that the more strings we add, the lower the drop will be, and the lower the drop, the more effective the Brown Note will be.
Pretty sure we"ll go straight to the Pink Note(your whole brain comes out of your eardrums) when we hit 20.
Ryan Leatigaga What if we went the other way? Like added higher strings? What kinda note would that be
Like what’s the brown note equivalent of a super high note
Synth Chris It would be a note that would be on par with angels from Heaven... but unfortunately, no material in the world can forge a note like that.
Steve Terreberry
I really needed this man thank you
Honestly not that different. Deftones have always experimented with really low tunings
What if Pink Floyd tuned down on the 10 string. Come on we need this! Space Djent!
hahahha that would be awesome actually, I second this
I'm doing The Wall on 8 strings in drop E.
soundcloud.com/kill-everyone/in-the-flesh-demo
Third this
I am so thankful for this ! 🙏
Dude! Awesome video! Thank you
Doomed user sounds HEAVY. They need to do a remix for a heavier song
HOLY SSSS Diamond Eyes gave me a heart attack XD well done!
2:00 Sounds more like meshuggah than deftones lol.
This just made my day. I was hoping you'd do Deftones😎
Amazing work right here. I was waiting for ELITE!!!!! But to no avail lmao
My own summer sounds like it's from the game doom or quake. Heh
Exactly 😄
That kick drum sound in My Own Summer is INSANE.
Anyone else here see Stef getting a 9 string? I'm DOWN fr! I can't wait to see what he does with it
I hope ESP is releasing a production model 9 string this year! Especially since Stephen is now using one, and they have Josh Travis on their roster.
Which one does Stephen use? I'd like too see some photos
I'm fucking ready to see this too! I flipped when I saw the post on ESP's Instagram! I bet you the rest of the band talked major shit though haha.
Nanogon It's on ESP's Instagram page
I was also psyched to see that post!! Apparently he will also have a more prominent role in the writing of the upcoming album. Which I think brings out the best in the band. Adrenaline, ATF, Self Titled, WP, all great albums. Can't wait either brother.
Your tone has improved so much
E STD! hahahahahahahahaha
This actually worked great, probably your best video of this series so far. Nice!
(And wow, this may be the best 9-string tone I've ever heard. That snarl is fucking mean, without falling into icepick hell.)
Good work. Love it.
This is sick!
Love it!
Deftones usually play shows tuned down whole steps from its original recorded tuning. Stephen plays all 7 & 8 string guitars now for the past decade.
Loved this! You are very skilled in the art of dj0nt!
Awesome
I love that sparkle green LTD!
I live for Diamond Eyes.
Props for thr Protest the Hero shirt man🤘
Sounds sick
kinda a random question but... im in the process of picking out a new guitar, im between that green ltd sct607, or a neon solar a2.7, and also kinda thinking about the a1.7 artist. i know this is the a2.6 in the video but still having played something close what do you think is a better guitar the ltd or the solar? or if you have ever played the a1.7 if you have any input on that one? sorry this is kinda all over the place but im just stuck on what to get lol please help me
dude !!! fuking awesome !!
Beautiful. . . .
Yo dude! that lemon solar guitar what would be the lowest tuning you would recomend?
that was realy good!
Sorry i checked your about section and your description but didn't see an answer to this, what's your amp setup for your videos? Or is it an axe-fx/kemper or a plugin?
Very nice👌
This video made me learn my own summer
Zero complaints. I am ok with this idea !!! So gritty !!!
How are you liking the LTD Black Metal? Been really wanting one.
If you had to pick between that and the Solar what would you choose?
Holy shit that sounded amazing!!!!!
Best part of this whole video is your shirt. Would you consider covering a song from Kezia?
Wow these guitars are beautiful
One of the bands that truly influenced the sonicscape of today! Great Band, thanks for this Andrew
My own summer in that tuning is brutal 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Diamond Eyes sounds insane, love it
Sounds agressive. And that Protest the Hero shirt!
do record basslines or use a vst? If so, which vst?
I think "tuned *further down* would be more appropriate of a title, but still sick!!
Still sounds awesome
Crazy
Let's see a cover of issues tapping out !!
Yes!!! 🖤
Boom
Diamond eyes sounds badass!
my own summer in drop b surely fookin heavy
I really like the ideas in this video. Stef Carpenter posted a picture of himself with a new custom 9 string guitar on Instagram recently, and it's very likely that the new Deftones album will have some 9 string guitar on it.
BTW, Diamond Eyes just sounds sick tuned down like that. 😎🎸
Hey! What string set/gauge do you use for drop b?
2:48 when your biggest inspiration is Josh Travis.
Engine No. 9 sounds fuckin HEAVY in Drop C. Interesting video, thanks.
Awesome. Is that an Octaver that gets the My Own Summer riff beefiness to it?
Suicide silence actually use to do engine number 9 in drop a and it was pretty nasty wont lie
My own summer sounds fantastic
We want a part 2
2:00 metal actualy having an Good mixed bass, a little goes a long way
Badass
Hey, when you did the bass for the covers, do you go a full octave below the C# (C#0) or do you stick with C#1. Also is the bass programmed?
octave down and yes programmed
What do you use to get your drum tracks?
My favourite was Korea in Drop A. That key really works for me.
My band covers my own summer in drop F# on 7 strings. HEAVY AF
Does the bass still play an octave below the guitar?
Dat bright green Solar! NICE AXE!! (they're all nice but godamn I want a Solar)
I like playing their new song Ohms on my 7 string Jason Richardson. It makes it so ballsy lol.
That Neon Green Solar is Hawt AF.
Songs:
Engine No. 9 (Adrenaline - 1995)
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) (Around The Fur - 1997)
My Own Summer (Shove It) (Around The Fur - 1997)
Korea (White Pony - 1999)
Doomed User (Gore - 2016)
Diamond Eyes (Diamond Eyes - 2009)
Great video, Andrew!!
That was bad ass Andrew
Savage!
That sinister bass during my own summer
Cool! What amp is this?
It's funny how I didn't know about this video and I used to play a lot of slipknot songs, so basically my guitar was constantly on drop b and I was playing "My Own Summer" on that tuning cause I was bored tuning up 😂
This totally works.
Thicc boys only
Gooby Pls
0.80 boys only
Tai-Bere 105 boys only
Nice !! Can we get Incubus down tuned ?
I thought all of around the fur was in either d sharp standard or drop c sharp
why the fuck would you play that part of be quiet and drive? instead of the main riff? im disappointed. that song sounds great played in drop A in minor key instead of how it is originally played
Was thinking the same thing
The LTD green guitar😍
