I did on opening day with my bow. I’ve never got luckier because I bought the bow 3 days before hang out at my friends lake house for one day. Sighted it in and shot for about 2 hours. Then next day on 1 hour of sleep he came right to the cow calls and then it broke it’s horn off when it crashed
Elk hunting is a sore subject with me right now. The last 2 seasons I’ve had to try a new hunt zone. It’s mostly private land and the small part that’s public has a ton of so-called hunters who drive their 4x4s and ATVs over every square foot of it and wonder why the elk all run to the private land before the season starts. I don’t mind sharing public land with other hunters (it’s their land too), but I can’t help believing there would be elk in there if everyone would just park their rigs and actually try hunting. I’m gonna move on and try somewhere else next year.
I really hope Beau starts feeling it again. He's one that inspires a broad range of folks. Hunters and non. Young and old. And adventurous. That's cool.
I was able tag fill my gen tag on a cow. This was my first ever elk and I was also able to hear a real in person bugle for the first time as well! I’ve got one more cow tag to fill and I’m addicted! I’ve got a deployment coming so new gear will be bought, lol. Thanks for all the pointers
That bull was pissed ... how awesome was that. About the only thing left in my life that still gives me goose bumps is a screaming bull elk and that one did it, even on camera lol.
I tagged an elk in the Gila DIY with my wife, neither of us have ever been big game Hunting. I could of got him on the first night but had to make sure shot was GOOD,I saw your Gila hunt and have been inspired to be as ethical as I can. This was my first year ever putting in and I had a Blast! My wife will put in her first draw next year because she had a Great Time.Keep the videos Coming I have learned a lot from you !Great Job!
Beautiful opening sequence.Nice layering of sounds and sights. I get a real sense of the vastness of the country and the exertions you are going through. Well done.
Glad to see you hunting in Colorado, Randy! Love your videos. My buddy shot two cows this year, unfortunately I didn’t have a tag but I got to help with the “guttin and gillin”.
When you have cow tags you would think that it is easy meat in the freezer. No! You can only find the big bulls. Love your videos, you have changed the way I hunt!
I see you finally bought yourself a real truck Randy. 😂Good work! So excited for this seasons videos. My brother killed our biggest buck yet last week (Utah 191 on the nose... green) and it’s been a great season so far, can’t wait to watch your season unfold.
But we were covered in mule deer. What a wonderful trip we had. Thank you Randy for all the info that you give and all the good that you do. You are awesome.
Always great to watch your videos Randy , I just came back from Utah for deer and Chukar’s , had a blast , took 3 of my German shorthair pointers with me and had the best time of my life , getting ready for Michigan rifle hunt now , God bless you and your family , hope we can see a chukar hunting video one day on your channel , keep it up brother
I was in that area too. Passed on 2 smaller but legal bulls opening morning at first light, first one I didn't have a good shot before he wandered back into the timber, the other one was broken off on one side above the eye guard and a third was bugling behind him but he never came out. Saw plenty of cows as close as 80 yards, a nice bull Moose and a pile of Muley's but never another bull. Hopefully next year I'll connect :-)
Honestly it looks just like you are hunting Alaska lol with the terrain and landscape on the video i keep looking for caribou and brown bear to pop out any second. Cant wait to see what happens next. Good luck Randy
No elk for us. We hunted hard for 8 days in idaho not a single elk found. I put about 65 miles on my Danner's and hundreds of miles looking through the glass. But it was a fun trip anyway with great friends. I can't wait for the next trip in a few years
Tagged a cow opening morning CO 1st rifle. Son tagged a bull on the last morning within 100 yds of where the cow went down. It was warm, dry, and windy at times. If we had another day to hunt think we could’ve filled my Dad”s bull tag too.
As you have been talking about those somedays becoming todays especially after the dall sheep 🐏 hunt, the BC caribou and moose hunt and those ones with your uncles in the past two seasons. Now that you have went on your bucket list hunts, I remember you mentioned going to places that you have driven by and said that you wanted to hunt there someday. Well your someday turned into a today once again. My Dad and his buddy saw a giant mule deer 🦌 two days before season, but couldn’t find him during season. I have two points for elk and deer 🦌 and one for pronghorn in Colorado. Sadly never got to use the $100 small game 🐇🐿 license there. Perhaps I will get on GoHunt and see what I can find in first rifle for two points. Thanks for sharing!
Pass that bull up? Heck no. I shoot that bull every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Very cool. As usual another great series headed our way. Thanks Randy and crew 👍 I'll be in Colorado this Thursday for the 3rd season with a bull tag. 🤞🤞
Did I see the string of 60 satellites go by in the b roll footage at the end of this episode? Regardless, love the night sky stuff. Not able to hunt this year so appreciate getting my 'fix' from Rrrrandy Newberg & crew. Thanks for the content!
Two bulls, 6x6 and a 5x5 somewhere in SW MT taken by our group on opening day. Spent next day and a half packing them out, 7 guys and it was brrrr cold! No where near the numbers of elk that Forest Sircus and FWP are claiming to be there. Saw no other hunters back in there, so who knows maybe the animals are all down in the hay meadows getting shot from trucks. Dry, dry, dry.
For Colorado, its one point per year. On your application, you request a preference point as your first choice. They change it recently where it might cost you a bit more just to get the point, especially if you are a non-resident. All the info is available from the CPW website.
Nope but l spotted the biggest bull I have ever seen hunting. Yes it was like this video. The day before 1st season started. I just wasn't able to pick him back up the next day. Found lots of cows and one bull that we named Elliot from open season. But hey it was fun time.
Tag soup for me in Colorado. This year was tough. All of the sign at 10500+ was from August. We did miles on miles. When we came out of the mountains to switch spots, we found 4 huge herds at 6,000 feet on private farms. That really through me for a loop. What was the deciding factor to start at 11,500 with how dry Colorado was? Finding water was a challenge for us
@@Fresh_Tracks Understood! Thanks for the tip and all the content. If it wasn't for you and Corey, I'd have never tried elk hunting as an east coast guy. Best experiences I've ever had with my spouse. Backcountry hunting has a way of refreshing your mind and soul.
Took 3 llamas up a ridge into an avalanche chute this past week to pack out a bull. Went like champs through tight aspens, willows, creek crossing, and rock field covered in snow. They are the best.
@Randy Newberg, Hunter Just wondering, why didn't you take the shot originally at 170 yards? Looked good from my POV! Lol EDIT: Just watched later in the video, season wasn't open until the following day. Got it.
Thanks for watching folks. Anybody tagged an elk yet this year? Let’s hear it 👇
Yes we got 1 crazy mountain Montana cold day -17 fun day. Good look to you guys
Gee from Bellevue Washington
Had my first elk hunt ever but had to cancel it because of fires
Got a cow in Utah a couple weeks back. Found the herd in a burn like Randy is always preaching.

Those. Llamas. Are the most beautiful. Animals. They have beautiful faces
I love Colorado... Thanks Randy, the best thing besides being there.
Those mule deer looked like the neighborhood kids wondering if the llamas could come out and play.
That's funny.
Always nice to see the animals all feed water taken care of before the people caring for them eat.
Good luck guys, stay warm.
Thank you for sharing Randy!

I was fortunate enough to tag a bull during Colorado archery season.
Beautiful opening sequence.Nice layering of sounds and sights. I get a real sense of the vastness of the country and the exertions you are going through. Well done.

the time lapse at the end was AWESOME!!!

Awesome adventure video, thanks for sharing!
Welcome to New Mexico Randy! My homeland and playground.
Wow, off to a great start... I thought that first bull was going down to check out your camp! Can't wait to see what's next.
Theres nothing like Elk meat. As far as I'm concerned its one of the best tasting animals in North America.
Agree.

I love that shot of Ennis, MT at the beginning, hunted out of Ennis last season. Good memories but I haven't been there since about April.
One of my favorite places.

Elk hunt is next weekend! I just got back from my deer hunt. No deer this time, hoping for some better luck come elk season.
What is that roof basket in the truck topper????
When you have somebody that camps near you in the back country, do you ever try to make contact with them before the hunt starts?

Do you eat every harvested animal every year or do you give/donate a lot of them? Seems like an awfully large amount of food.
Just wondering how Beau was feeling. Didn't seem too talkative. Really enjoy y'alls vids together. Keep your powder dry and shoot straight!!!
Going through experimental cancer treatment. Pray for him everyone.
What’s the fuel mileage towing them llamas

Will those llamas "Lewis and Clark"? You avoided a trail less route and I am curious......elk don't often go down next to a trail.

Mr. Newberg, how do I hire you to guide my first ever elk hunt?
I’m curious to how everything is packed out. Is the meat taken out to the car separate to the camping gear or is it all done at once?
All at once. On our way out, our packs are filled with a lot of weight that the llamas can't carry.
