Stay low. 8500-9500ft. That last storm pushed most of them down. Didn’t think it would, but the 2000 ft difference was huge. None on top, but they were still bugling this weekend in the aspens. Good luck

How blessed and fortunate are we as hunters get to see something as great and grand as this scene at 1:05?
How many people out there have never woken up in wild country and have never experienced something like this?
There is a God my friends, and he is great.

I was born and raised in Southern Colorado and have hunted all my life. When I first started there were few elk in my area, (85) but many mule deer. As time has gone on the elk population has increased a lot. Anywhere I hunt I can hear human activity, a highway or a railroad. I do not have to go into the deepest back country to find an elk thankfully because I am old now. The elk are not afraid of a vehicle, only if that vehicle stops. There is mostly private land in my area and one big ranch in particular has a large herd of elk, 400 plus, that I consider the seed herd. 2020 is the first year I have harvested an elk on public property and was a very satisfying hunt. I hit the jackpot with that elk because it is one of the two best tasting I have ever harvested. I have passed hunting on to my son and he is doing the same with his three sons. I hope I am there the first time those boys hear an elk bugle. The hair on the back of their necks will stand straight up. An outdoor life is as satisfying as it can get. Thank you for all the wonderful videos.

I am turning 40 this year and going on my first ever big game hunt in two weeks in Wisconsin. So excited. White tail. I do not know if I am allergic, don’t care. Still packing some pills. I am using a 300 wm. Some say it’s over kill. It’s all I have. Thanks for the wonderful views into the respectful way to hunt. Very blessed to be born in America.

That will do the job. I've taken everything from antelope to moose to brown bears with a 300Win Mag. If that's what you have, use it. Odds are you are comfortable with it and the results will be excellent. Good luck.

Nice job Randy. Over and over you prove to us that it can be done on public land. Just gotta be willing to put in the work. The common theme I see in your (excellent) videos is that you are dragging ass tired at the end of each hunt. Even being in shape you challenge your will. Anyone who thinks grabbing an OTC tag, and/ or hunting on public land is not fruitful need not go any further than right here. Truly and inspiration - thank you.

I worked with a wildlife biologist and range scientist that was allergic to elk saliva and elk hair (probably due to all the saliva). We found out the hard way when we did some work on the Starkey Elk Research Facility in Oregon. Go figure. I guess it's more common than one would think.
Thank you for putting your hunting videos on TH-cam for everyone. It inspires me every time I see one of your videos. And thank you for your continued work keeping public lands and public access available. It's truly meaningful work.

Granted there was a huge fire in that game unit but I was still surprised I didn't see anything. Maybe it was just a weird year. For me, it is the scouting that makes opening day a good time to be there. Once the shooting starts, I change my plan completely, as the elk/deer have it figured out once the first shots are fired.

A big congratulations 🍾 on completing another bucket list hunt there Randy. Turning another someday into a today type hunt. I am happy that after all those miles and all those times driving by that place you were able to make it happen.
I currently have two elk points in Colorado, so I may get on GoHunt and see if there is any chance I could get a 1st season rifle tag 🏷. Thanks for sharing.

As you might have read multiple times I plan on doing a 10 day Wyoming double next fall since I didn't do it this year. That being a rifle hunt for mule deer and pronghorn. CO is a great fall back option. Thanks for replying and doing what you do.

Another neat video and glad it went so well. Really liked the shot footage, so realistic of most hunting situations. Very seldom is it just a broad side shot. The scenery of the hunt is nice, I'll never do this but really enjoy being able to attend via the videos. Congratulations on a successful hunt.

Well you definitely had more than enough gun. Just for the record, I am not against the 300 Win Mag. I own one myself. It is the gun that I killed my one elk many moons ago. I just don't hunt with it anymore. Now that I am older, I do not tolerate the recoil as well as I use to. I certainly do not like what it cost to feed the thing anymore either. It punches me in both my shoulder and my pocket book. For deer here in the thick woods of Alabama, I will stick with the 7mm-08. If I ever go out west for elk again, I think that I would be hard pressed to leave the Win Mag behind here at home.
