  • This video is about Groundhog Repellent and Deterrent and shows what I have done to stop a groundhog from burrowing under my deck. The solution includes collapsing all existing tunnels, two different barriers, coiled barb wire as a deterrent as well as fox urine granules as a deterrent.

    4 years later I find your video very relevant to my situation. Shallow deck and a family of ground hogs that live on public property keep coming up under me and digging. I've finally gotten rid of the woodchucks that were living up here, but I've been forced to leave the deck boards pulled up so new ones don't find me. I was ready to just remove the pretty deck and go without it, but I believe I'll give this a try! Hope it worked for you!

      I had continuing problems until I moved out here full time. The dogs keep them away. Groundhogs are some very persistent critters.

    We had ground hogs and we used live traps at the entrance to the tunnels. At the side of the barn we used the natural briers to make a tunnel straight into the live trap. Then a quick pop, rinse and repeat. No more groundhogs. We see them in the far side of the neighbors field but they didn't come back to the property for the rest of the year. My guy has also peed in the hole after and it does seem to work at least combined with the other method. We'll see how it looks this spring.

    I found one that lives on my neighbor's yard chilling by my AC. It's a shaded area and the concrete was not hot at that time. I threw some moth balls at it to see if it will leave but nada. I shot some pellets at it, it didn't move much. I then shoot water at it since it's a hot day, it ran away

    I had a turkey decoy that I used in hunting season. I put it out near where the groundhog was trying to establish a burrow. It scared the critter away. Low cost solution. I had tried trapping, smoke bombs, even bear spray. Groundhogs apparently know turkeys will eat their young, so they move on!

      Wow, that is an awesome solution. Ultimately it was my rat terriers that took care of the issue. Just their presence on a regular basis. Thanks for the info.

    Had to chime in, dig until you realize the groundhog is 👀 and laughing at you. I have a count of 10 to 12 known holes across the property. The longest tunnel is about 200 yards that connects to the rest and reaches my neighbor. I have filled in holes with used cat litter and a few months later, hole. FYI, stepping down on shovel will only scare you. I lay my rakes up so I can use the force to bring to my hands. Unless you like Harry Potter, then say up. My next attempt to chase them out of pump house is Irish Springs soap. We'll see.

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My only true success was when we moved here permanently and the rat terriers scared them off. The dogs crawled a few feed in the holes and chased them off the property any time they saw one. They never caught one - that would have likely been ugly.
