Yves, your reaction to such unsettling words is a natural human response, and it’s completely understandable. However, your extensive travels have undoubtedly shown you the spectrum of human nature-the good and the not-so-good. It’s important to remember that the kindness and warmth you’ve encountered far outweigh the negative. Stay focused on your admirable goals and the rich cultural experiences that await. Each encounter, even the challenging ones, is a valuable lesson in the diverse tapestry of humanity. Your journey is about growth and learning, and this is just another part of the incredible story you’re living. Keep your spirit undeterred and continue to embrace the beauty of our world and its people.

I'm from that region of Uganda and actually its not an evil tongue but rather "be careful" some words don't have to be directly interpreted but it's a figurative language.

@@bat159true, English is not our first language and sometimes it’s hard to drive your message home. Sometime back I would also be mistaken for being rude yet I was not. And from the way the boys were so humble when he was talking back to them, it shows you they didn’t mean to hurt him. I heard one man at Busega Flyover sayin Baja mukuba ebyuma, literary meaning the vehicles will knock him. But they were only worried for his life. Even my husband was worried for Yves life when I showed him. It’s just that some of us are not that courageous. We fear a lot.

I don't think it's a good idea to confront people in the middle of nowhere, and you should give a space for interpretation of cultural and linguistic differences.

Kenyan TH-camr received backlash few years ago after expressing her shock to find National Parks in Uganda. She looked ignorant but her ignorance represented many of us. I supported her because I had never heard of such in Uganda. I was embarrassed when I did a simple Google search and came across Queen Elizabeth National Park, home of tree climbing lions, Bwindi National Park - home of Mountain gorillas, plus many others. I had to travel to Uganda and experience it. Uganda is an underrated tourist destination. There is more than the Source of the Nile. When you visit Uganda, you always want to go back. Our family is headed there for a birthday celebration in a few weeks. Thank you for showing more of Uganda and Africa. Stereotypes and ignorance must be dealt with.

Said it all...am a Ugandan but I supported Miss Trdy. Imagine there's a whole ministry of tourism... But Idk why tourism is not promoted...
I have lived in Kenya, Kenya encourages local tourism.... Ug. does not. It makes local tourism so expensive yet the locals could be the ones to advertise for free.

In Uganda, saying you're going to die is not a threat. Its a warning that what you're doing is risky. They're cautioning you to be careful but since the cultures are different you take it as a threat.

And they were humble when he was talking back to them. Poor boys. Just lack of proper words to use

Was looking for this comment.....thought it was a direct translation issue. Back in Kenya (Luhya) if mama says "Lero Ofwa", just know you you are in trouble....not necessarily a death threat
