    Your guide was invaluable to me, Thank you! I upgraded my late 09 mini with an evo 850 ssd and replaced the thermal paste. I've learned that you can't always be a lion tamer and humpty dumpty doesn't always go back together again! I used 20mm and 16mm M3 metal bolts and nuts to replace the plastic retainers on the CPU and GPU with non metallic isolating washers on the heat sink side and the board side, so 2 per fastener. Apples are sabotaged from the factory just like my Audi, Cheers!

      nigel page Im so glad it was helpful for you. Apples nylon holders suck. Its a shame that they dont use something that can be reused. Your sabotaged comment makes me laugh. Enjoy your much improved mine. :)

      You have to go to recovery mode or boot to an installer to reset the password.

    Awesome machines. I have several from the original PPC on up.

      So do I, my oldest machine is an old g3 all in one. It looks like a giant molar tooth. It was such a great machine.

    Could just be one one of several sensors weren't reconnected. There are 3 top sensors and one front one that have to make conact with the inside of the metal lid in order for the machine to boot. And those tiny wires connect to the MoBo often come loose. Check all connections.

      I did, I check the board over and over again and nothing seemed off and I know I knocked something small off when I tried to undo the heatsink.

    It looks like you broke off a tiny capacitor on the base of the Mac mini. In situations like that, you can usually bridge the pads with solder and the machine should run nearly perfectly since it was such a low resistance capacitor. The machine probably just needed the flow of electricity through that point

    • @PCGoblin
      @PCGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think youre right about what I broke off. But I'm pretty sure I remember trying to solder the two points together and it was a no go. But it was a while ago so I can't remember exactly.

      PCGoblin nothing significant on my end. I did it more for peace of mind while I was upgrading the rest of the machine

    hi..can we change that DVD part to external hdd to make double storage in this mini mac late 2009 cause im not gonna using dvd anymore now days...it is possible?

    • @PCGoblin
      @PCGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      It is possible to take out the optical drive and put an internal ssd or hdd in its place. I have a link below that if you use it helps my channel out and does not change the cost for you. This has everything you need to be able to do it once youve removed the top. To get inside you just need something like a putty knife to pry it open.
      This has a sled that goes in like the optical drive but with a slot for the second HDD or SSD - amzn.to/3agDFX5
