I got a Mac Mini late 2009, upgraded with 8gb and 250gb SSD. Running Catalina with this Dosdude1 tool. Still runs pretty good. Even works on my LG 34” ulrawide 2k screen!
Do you use it anymore? I want to install it but the boot is slower because the apfs patch in the bootloader and i Expect the machine to run slower but im not sure because big sur was very Slow on the Mac mini 2009. High Sierra is pretty fast and i cant decide between mojave and catalina (i Want dark mode :D ) is catalina fast? And how Long does it take to boot?(if you have a ssd installed)
With 256MN ofVRAM, it should! I'm looking for a good cheap 2.53 ghz. logic board. 3 of my 5 USB2.0 ports are DEAD. 2 only partially work. And the little surface mt. chip with the POST cord died. Hard to unsolder and replace, as on my MacBook A1278. Same thing happened. Still gives a good post, just no chord.. Replacement used logic board CAN coat as much as another good A1283 On eBay... J.C.
Just picked me up one of these. Waiting for the SSD to come in. Not sure I'm going to bother with the ram yet, but I won't be replacing the stop case until I know for sure. I know I want to re-paste the CPU and GPU. Great video on pulling it apart too. A few other video's didn't show much on the process of popping the top off. I started where you said, then slowly worked a pry tool around the edge to get the clips off.
It's really pointless to be using a Duo with 4-GB RAM computer unless you're doing basic TH-cam/audio editing (Audacity)/productivity (Office), or emulation. It's only useful with updated Windows 10, 8GB RAM, SSD highly recommended.
I did exactly as you did but got the folder with the question mark.....I checked all connections and still the same but then I put my old hard drive back in and still got the folder with the question mark. I only have a windows keyboard but none of the keys that equal the mac keyboard are recognised ...do I need a mac keyboard ... any help appreciated.....
Hi - Love the video I have an early 2009 mac mini - I want to upgrade it from 1GB to 8GB of Ram , CPU is a Core 2 Due 2.0ghz and plan to purchase a SSD. my question is does the system work ok in Mojave or Catalina? Does it run smooth or does the GPU stuggle to process the Metal requirments of the newer OS?
I actually have a Mac Mini 2009. It runs pretty good on Catalina but I do recommend an SSD to have a better performance. I currently have a HDD and it works amazing! It does take sometime to open applications (on a HDD) but that’s an exception :) (takes like 10-15 seconds).
You skipped how you formatted your new drive and how you got Mojave installed on it. I have a late 2009 Mac mini I’d like to soup up, too. My optical drive stopped working, so I will replace it with a second internal SSD, but I want to be able to boot Mojave with it. How did you do that?
I copied the whole of my hard drive with super duper and upgraded the hard drive to 500 gig and ram to 8 mg. When I turned the mac on I got a white screen with a folder and a question mark. The windows keyboard would not work to try and re install OS X for the mini mac 2009 as long as it didnt replace all my files. If it had copied the HD why has this happened?
It means RAM in your computer has not passed the data integrity test run at startup. Try removing the ram and reinstalling. If that does not work try a new set of ram chips
If you trying to install Catalina, be sure that you'd formatted the disk to the APFS file system. And there's no need to apply patches, everything works well without them.
No, the CPU is too useless to decode it. Even on AMD Ryzen it slows the system down enough with Blu-ray playing software (PowerDVD Ultra). Assuming you use Windows 7+ and a computer (Mac or PC) with at least 4 cores. Even if you use MakeMKV to rip it, it's too useless to play it at the proper speed.

@@IAmTheBrandonH ok but how I can install the Mojavi in the new ssd ? Or I have that make a clone of the original hard disk fist?

B.S. !!!
2:26 That's actually a thermal sensor for the hard drive, not a sudden motion sensor.
Cheers mate, hardest part is getting the case apart :)

Bad RAM test...
Will this work with the early 2009 Model? I am asking this because there is a early 2009 and late 2009 model.
>Will this work with the early 2009 Model?
Yes!
it stops there after I apply post-install patches, say 'updating dyld shared cache'. I use mac mini late 2009.
Start over and install again.

graphics card ???
NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB of shared memory. There is no dedicated graphics in this machine.
where did you find that 8gb of ram for $20 ??
eBay.
@NRG Noone's gonna do the work for you. "DDR3 1066" "PC3-8500", 2x4G.
Can I use the handoff after upgrading?
Handoff is all software driven as far as I know. Should work. I never tested on this machine
Cars And Cameras I have tried this, the old machine needs an external Bluetooth 4.0 to use
I got an early 2009mac mini n install Majove os but the imovie stop working any ideal?
Same issue with me.
Parkinson!
how youtube works on this machine?
Marcin Chess with the power of the internet
1080p no issue at all since most work are unloaded to geforce 9400M gpu... 1440p is a little choppy... not recommended...
By using electricity. 😆 Electrons specifically.
