    I bought this light a few days ago and it arrived today. It is now charging and light is blinking blue. I was looking for a video that showed the charging function and light signal on full charge. After watching several other videos, yours was the first one to explain this fully. You also talked about the traffic cone as well whereas none of the others had this accessory available to show. Thanks for the comprehensive overview on this light! Your spoken content was clear, great English, no halting speech and very well thought out. I look forward to using and adding to my collection.

    I have a number of Nitcore lights with a tactical tail switch, plus a side switch and I feel that the design mistake that was made is to provide only mode changes with the side switch, as it cannot be turned on or off from the side switch. This means that you are constantly changing hand positions. If I want EDC carry over tactical carry I must go to tactical should level hold to work the back button. I prefer a light, like Olight, where the user has a choice of using fully, either the side switch for nighttime walking or tactical hold at shoulder height. Seems with Nitecore, it is "either or."

  • @grayman5296
    @grayman5296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    at 5:50 you say that in case a 18650 cell is used, you CAN'T use turbo, you can access 1050 lumens at the most. but, in the website it clearly says that " turbo level is only accessible when using 21700/18650 Li-ion battery with a discharge current over 8A". its written in small letters under the output/runtime/beam distance/candela chart at the flashlight's page at your website. BTW, the one (18650) you had in the video has 8A written on it, so i don't know what to understand, maybe you can clarify. 8A 18650 the turbo is inaccessible? 10A 18650 the turbo is accessible? is 8A and above needed to have the turbo or it has to be greater than 8A(exactly 8A won't be able to activate turbo)? i am waiting for this flashlight to arrive at the local nitecore shop. the guys there told me the first batch is on the way and the main reason i am buying it is the backwards compatibility with 18650 cells and the wide range of compatible cell sizes. so an accurate answer will be much of help.
    thanks

    • @seftioksim8140
      @seftioksim8140 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi friend, do you know which flashlights can only use protected batteries? I am guessing those which have 2 buttons behind (normal&quickstrobe) can only use protected.Most spec. papers don't write the compatible batteries. I wanna know which models I can use regular unprotected vtc6, cuz its more accessible. If I can use mh12s with unprotected 18650 definetly buying.

    • @grayman5296
      @grayman5296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seftioksim8140 i don't know exactly what you mean by which flashlights. you mean which Nitecore flashlights? you need to be more specific.
      regarding flashlights and batteries compatibility in general:
      1) you need to make sure the battery fits inside the flashlight's battery compartment (in size).
      2) it has minimum and maximum continuous discharge current within the range of the flashlight driver's operating requirements/range.
      3) you need to check if the flashlight is compatible with flat top/button top battery design and fit it with the type it is compatible with to ensure best performance.
      regarding Sony VTC6 and MH12S:
      1) since the VTC6 is an 18650 cell, you need to know if the VTC6 will fit inside the MH12S when inserted WITH the 18650 to 21700 SIZE ADAPTER MAGAZINE (comes with the flashlight's package). you can see it at 5:43 in the video.
      in that segment of the video he is using the Nitecore's NL1835HP cell for fit demonstration so if the VTC6 dimensions don't exceed the NL1835HP dimensions, it should fit. unfortunately the dimensions are not written in the NL1835HP page at their website while some other models of their batteries are written.i suggest you ask them, they will give you the dimensions.
      2) the discharge rate of the VTC6 is 15A so it is suppose to fully operate the flashlight at all outputs. this i know because i recently emailed Nitecore and they replied that a 15A cell is totally ok and will be able to run the flashlight with no problems at all outputs.
      3) the internal contact in the size adaptor magazine is solid (not spring), you can see that in this linked video: th-cam.com/video/GHZ17wLRqJ4/w-d-xo.html
      at 1:42 so i am not sure if it will be fine for the VTC6 because the VTC6 is a flat top design. you may ask nitecore also on this one.
      bottom line:
      if the VTC6 dimensions don't exceed the NL1835HP dimensions and the adapter is compatible with flat top batteries, i can safely say that a VTC6 cell will fit, and fully operate the MH12S with no problems (but keep in mind that runtimes of 18650 cells are not as good as the 21700 so you will get less runtimes of what is written in the MH12S page since the tests are done with 21700 5000 mAh cell).
      hope i answered your question.

      @seftioksim8140 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@grayman5296 thank you rly long reply.
      For example klarus models have strobe switch, can I use unprotected battery because it comes with protected batteries. Maybe current from unprotected battery can damage the circuit.(im not sure it may suck lots of amps and burn when pressing strobe button)
      Ex. Nitecore P22r can it use unprotec. Batt.?
      They need to write all this specs in the box I am confused

    • @grayman5296
      @grayman5296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seftioksim8140 i still can't understand how the separate strobe switch relates to your question but i will do my best answering you. if the 3 points (size, contact, discharge current) i mentioned in my previous comment are met, there shouldn't be any problem (size, contact, discharge current).
      in the specific case of the P22R, the VTC6 will be fine (amps are above 8A so it will give full output + contact is ok because the contact near the flashlight's head side is a spring, which will make good contact with the flat top VTC6 + dimensions: you still need to check the max battery size compatibility for that specific flashlight because its not written anywhere but you still can contact nitecore customer service by email and ask them. they will reply, they have very good service, that is why i personally prefer to buy from them despite they are more expensive compared with other companies like klarus,lumintop,thrunite...)
      FYI: most modern flashlights have current control as a part of their driver so they withdraw only what they need even if the battery discharge ability is greater than what the flashlight needs at that specific output level so, you should be concerned more about having less amps than what you need not more amps than what you need because less amps will translate in less lumen outputs than what the flashlight is able to put out.
      regarding Klarus, i have their XT2CR (great over all light-balanced beam, multiple user settings, compact pocketable size, battery level indicator, steel bezel, spring contacts on both battery sides, strobe ready switch....) and the VTC6 will fit inside and fully operate that flashlight. take note that they have newer models but they are slowly transitioning towards proprietary batteries which can greatly restrict your options in battery purchase in the future (which i hate) but they still sell the XT2CR.

    So.... What is the purpose of the "Quick draw" holster IF you do a mechanical lockout which you would need both hands to twist the tailcap back on to activate the light ? seems a bit counter intuitive and completely makes the purpose of the "Quick draw" holster being quick access in a scenario you would NEED quick access useless.... the pouch holster you can open and grab the light with a single motion....

    why not make these lights without a charging port? I already have a nitecore 4 battery charger station. I like to charge all 4 at once and then pop them in like reloading (using my smaller secondary light to see as I put new batteries in). It seems like charing from the flashlight itself severely limits function and greatly increases damage/fail potential to the light unnecessarily.

    Have had the m12v2 for a while now, love it with no complaints. Honestly don't know why I ordered this new "s" version as my V2 still working excellent, and not much has changed.....

    I'm shocked Nitecore doesn't make new models of MH20, most notably it's 2stage button. From turned on position, I can quickly access last mode + immediatelly access ultra low + almost immediatelly access high power mode, and switch between all modes effortlessly with half press.
    Very light weight, very optimal spill for close and spot for far distances, neutral white edition.
    It was the first and only interface that got me very impressed with intinuity and ease of access, made me disregard any other flashlights and their interfaces.

    • @NitecoreSG

      Only a matter of time before they reach the MH20 size and function. They’re revamping other models first

    • @xypleth
      @xypleth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NitecoreSG You have enough reason to think there's going to be such a product soon? Closest to it is currently Nitecore E4K's updated edition, where after people were complaining with the new interface for 2 stage button (universally agreeble - much worse interface), they updated it to work just like the MH20 and MH23 did.
      Except that it doesn't have spotlight, so it's not the same function. But for flood light it seems to be really good.

    • @xypleth
      @xypleth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm looking for another light similar to MH20, but all of them seem like a downgrade currently. And MH23 comparitavely to Nitecore newer models, has old USB port, smaller battery, and priced same or higher, which doesn't make it such a good buy at this point.

    I understand that the p20i have the harden ceramic bezels on top of the regular steel bezels for glass breaking sort purpose whereby this mh12S do not have the harden ceramic bezel but only the regular steel bezels.
    My question is, if for whatever reason, i need to use the mh12S for such glass breaking sort of bashing, will the mh12S be able to withstand such once in a blue moon occurrence glass breaking sort of bashing? Or will it likely just get damaged once used in that manner?
    Need to know before i order.

      The MH12S has no steel bezel too, it’s all aluminum. Once in a while yes it’s ok, but you might see the aluminum head material press in, depending on what you bash on

    I don't think a light with 2 tailswitches is a great improvement because the light still has to be positioned for mode sw access when dark. I got this light and a Fenix tk16 also. With tailswitch the light has to be held so thumb can access the switches or use the other hand to access switches I.e. 2 hand operation. With the mode switch on the side I reflect the light off my hand to illuminate the location of the mode switch on the MH12S.

      1a/ If I'm getting it right, the Nitecore i Series only works with batteries finishing with an "i" at the end, e.g. the NL2150i for the P20i if I want a 5000mAh battery?
      1b/ If I use regular NL2150 battery in P20i it will not work at all or I just can't access TURBO (limited to 1100 lumens)?
      2/ BTW in the Technical Data chart for the MH12S it says "TURBO Availability [...] only accessible when using a 21700/18650 [...] with a discharge current over 8A", however isn't the provided NL2150 only 5A max?
      3/ Moreover, I ordered 34mm RGB filters. Says it fits 32mm to 36mm head sizes. Will it fit the P20i's 31.8mm?
