  • This week Jeff sits down with Brighton’s James Milner again, this time to discuss the top five games from his football career.
What was going through his mind during Liverpool’s epic 4-0 Champions League win over Barcelona? Which manager left him out of vital Premier League matches because of superstition? And how did it feel to be subbed off after just 25 minutes at the World Cup?
He also talks about why the senior England squad is on another level, how members of his local cricket club protected him when he broke into the Leeds team at 16 and which of his team-mates used to trick him into making a cuppa.
Football's Greatest is a Folding Pocket production with BBC Studios.

I remember when milner was at leeds you could see he would be a class player even back then, its amazing how long hes been playing in the Premier league,a proper solid underated baller who can play in multiple different positions a proper jack,he deserved way more england games aswell and thats coming from a Gunner.Anyway glad this has popped up in my algorithms so youve copped another sub looking forward to more content.
Anyway off to watch the chris kamara one now👌

He's at 633 PL apperances atm overcoming Ryan Giggs. If he stays at Brighton for the next season, he'll surely overtake Gareth Barry's 652.

    That 4-0 against Barca
I watch it probably once a month.
Colossal game. Even saw Wenger in the build-up saying, "Don't count them out: because of Anfield."
And yeah, maybe he's just being the pundit and trying to stoke hype, but I don't think that was ever his style beforehand. Arsenal let him go too early.

He won’t say it because it’s against a former team but the 3-0 win at anfield against man city in the UCL has to be in there. I was there and the atmosphere was an absolute cauldron for hours before, during and after the game. It was better atmosphere wise than the Barcelona game and I was there for both!

61 games for England but can you remember him ever being the best player in the team for any one of those games? He was average and should have been nowhere near the England team. We have a habit of giving average players like Milner and Henderson far too many caps instead of playing youngsters
