    So adding a second s32 via daisy chaining adds 3ms latency? Is this also on 2x DL16s linked in a rack ?

In all the videos they show how the routing is but NOBODY shows with which channels both the inputs and outputs of the DL16 are used. I do not know what volumes or how they are equalized from 33 to 48 of the DL16 or ls outputs from 17 to 24. I started using Dante about five years ago and I took to it rather quickly. Then again, I’m a network engineer by day, so I’m sure that helps. AES50’s channel count limit plus the no network switches policy sound brutal in comparison to Dante. And the A port va B port is not intuitive and raises a lot of questions for me.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you mean coming from the Dante world. AES-50 isn't really intended to compete with Dante or AVB as a network solution. What it does offer is incredibly simple, full duplex low latency connectivity for things like this, with very little to configure or know about compared to Dante. No laptops, software or anything else for digital snake customers to worry about going wrong. I've known a good few folks over the years who painted themselves into a corner with Rio boxes (only every being used as a point to point snake) and had to phone a friend to get signal passing again. For Behringer's target audience, I think the simplicity was a good call for the core functionality. When you add a Dante card to the mixers (assuming you can find one) you can really go nuts.
      Thanks for the message & for checking out the video as always!

    • @Bobby_Uterus
      @Bobby_Uterus ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed that you can do just about anything routing wise with Dante, but you can do enough of what is needed With AES50. Simplicity being the major benefit . I have had two brand new Dante cards for two different M32C rack units going on a few years now. I have yet to install either as I am able to do everything I need with AES50 and Ultranet.

    My band as M32C and DL32. They want this to be their IEM rack and control Preamps of the DL32. Then, they want to use AES50 to send those inputs to a venue FOH X32 mixer. I am trying to wrap my head around this. Here's what I have:
    DL32 configured as master clock (48k). DL32 AES A connected to M32C AES50 A. M32C set Sync to AES50A, and routed with AES50A as input sources 1-32. M32C set to Lock the stagebox. M32C set to control AES50A preamps. M32C is also routing outputs to AES50A for buses 1-10 for IEMs.
    Then, DL32 AES50 B connected to FOH x32 AES50 A port. X32 FOH set Sync to AES50A, and routed with AES50A as input sources 1-32. This should give FOH all our DL32 inputs with Gain Trim only. Thus, they can mix FOH as they see fit for the venue.
    There is no need to send audio from M32C to X32 or vice versa. They simply want to share the DL32 as if it was a physical splitter snake.
    Will this work? Is there something wrong with this solution???

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Todd, thanks for the question. While I don't see anything jumping out in your setup as being incorrect (other than I might use the M32C as the clock leader instead of the stagebox), in the real world, I don't think this is a good plan.
      The likelyhood that you'll get a venue tech willing to reclock their system to your stagebox is next to zero in my experience. It's too hard to know what else they have in play to count on it working. Surely, they'll have other stage boxes feeding their amplifiers and zones etc?
      You'd be much better off using an analog split and handing them XLR tails than trying to configure this at every show. If you were in control of both the FOH and Monitor systems on a regualr basis and know the FOH tech well, it's certainly doable, but as a throw and go band system, this will end up causing more trouble than it's worth. Let me know if I've misunderstood the question though & thanks again for the message.

      The S32 only connects to other AES-50 SuperMac gear, i.e. the Behringer & Midas X & M series consoles and the Wing. I'm not sure how you'd like to connect it to your analog mixer, but it will not act as an expander for any mixers besides the ones I listed above. Thanks for watching.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, unfortunately the S32 / X32 series does not support redundancy in that way. Great question though... I believe you have to get up into the Pro Series consoles from Midas before you get this, event their M32 stuff doesn't do it.

  • @EqDior

    A possible work around To get inputs into your daw is to get a klark teknik AES50 to USB adapter and that will allow you to record all inputs into your computer.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the DN9630 works on the incoming AES50 clock signal... which means the S32 would need to be the primary clock source if there is no mixer in play, but I don't believe they have that ability. Would love to know if I'm wrong, going to have to look it up later to confirm.

If you are asking if you can route outputs to the optical out on your interface, then connect that to the S32 and have those outputs show up on the XLR outs, that's a no. Unfortunately the optical connections on the S32 are both output ports, so that won't work. No, that won't work unfortunately. A&H uses a proprietary protocol in their D-Snake system and Behringer's AES-50 SuperMac is vaguely proprietary as well. If you want that type of interoperability you'd want to look at systems that have Dante options, although those still come with challenges in controlling things like pre-amp, phantom power etc. if you mix and match brands. Hmm, it's always a pain to diagnose one channel acting up on a digital snake. I'm guessing when you say you've swapped cables, you mean you've tried a different network cable between the box and the console? And you're using shielded cat cable with ethercon ends? Does this system get moved around or transported to and from gigs or is it in one location all the time? It's possible you may have a ribbon cable or some other connection not making great contact inside if the unit has been bumped around.

Also, it’s all purchased 2019 and has not had firmware updates. I plan on doing that on Wednesday. Also. It is connected using cat cable and I would bet, just standard. • @DcSoundOp

      @@seemycapeproductions7833 Thanks for the info. Based on what you're saying I would guess it is an issue with your cabling. When you get back to it on Wednesday, check to see if the cable being used is shielded or not. I'm not sure about every FW version, but I think the stage box stays muted or goes into mute when the clock signal is dropped or compromised. This can happen pretty easily with unshielded cable or shielded cable without ethercon ends (which connects the shield properly to each chassis). These issues can seem like they come out of nowhere when the weather turns cold, and the humidity drops due to static building up on the unshielded cable.

    I’ve been asking this question to almost every video I see. Why are my faders individually not affecting the sound coming out of front speakers, and the MAIN L/R. We have done the routing because we have all our instruments coming out of the s32 stage box, our microphones are wireless and all through 1 box. Which those go directly connected to x32. Our speakers however we have setup in the mixbus section/output on s32 1-2, subwoofers 3-4, stage monitors 5-6 and ear monitors 7-8 We haven’t changed our livestream mix bus which on the mix bus is still 1-2 but is that maybe why faders don’t work?

      Hey Mauricio, thanks for the message. I'm guessing you haven't had a good response to your question yet, because it's a tricky one to diagnose from a distance. It sounds like you may have your livestream double assigned and your house L/R mix not assigned where you want it. I'd start with one source and follow it through the signal path carefully so you can see where it is really going. I'm sure you'll be able to find the issue if you go slowly and take it one step at a time.

Obviously, one would assume this would require routing channels to the stagebox in the console. Thanks in advance!

      Hey Mike, if you have an X32 with the dante card and one of these stageboxes connected to the X32 as well, you can certainly route the inputs over to the dante network. You're limitations are always going to be whatever the console can do for routing, which varies a bit between different X32 models and the Wing etc. & depending on what else you need routed for outputs and all. But within the limits of the console, yes you can use the console to bring these inputs into a Dante network.

    I thought that since firmware 1.6 remote control of the head amps is possible over midi?
    Quote:
    MIDI Remote Control
    • Note: The DL32 will only accept MIDI controls when its preamps are not controlled from
    a console (i.e. M32 series) already
    • When DL32 is connected to any AES50 clock master that does not control its preamps,
    (e.g. Lynx AES16e-50), then its rear panel MIDI input allows controlling head amp gain and
    phantom power
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH01 CC80...95, 0-19 > Input 1-16, Gain, 2.5 dB steps, -2.5 dB...45 dB
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH01 CC96...111, 0/127 > Input 1-16, Phantom power, on/off
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH02 CC80...95, 0-19 > Input 17-32, Gain, 2.5 dB steps, -2.5 dB...45 dB
    • Rx/Tx on MIDI CH02 CC96...111, 0/127 > Input 17-32, Phantom power, on/off

      How about that! I must have missed reading those release notes. I think the point I was addressing in this video was recording audio & controlling the preamps via the USB port, which is still a no. But I guess with that 800 Lynx card, and a midi controller either via software or hardware, you could make something work.

      Yes, the S32 works with all of the X32 mixers. The total number of channels your mixer can process does not change however, you just have more inputs & outputs to choose from.

      What do you mean exactly by cascade? It would depend on the mixers you are using as to what routing will be available when connected to two different stage boxes. You can check the user manuals for each *and the mixer you have* to see the routing options.

    My S32 is stuck in “mute all” and won’t disable. Any idea how to fix or why this would happen?

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possible that your sync with the primary clock source isn't locked? Are you using Port A on the S32 and the mixer it is plugged into? Are you using shielded network cable & is it stranded twisted pair, not solid wire?

    • @asbarra

      I am using Port a but I don’t have a sink with my mix and console. The cable is not shielded but I’ve use this cable for over a year and had no problem.
