  • Jerk Rack Position - • Jerk Rack Position
Adjust from Clean to Jerk Rack - • Rack Adjustment from C...
No matter how great your jerk rack position is, in order to be solid overhead, you need to make a transition in the hand and wrist position.
Even if you’re able to rack the bar with the palms deep under it, the bar will be too far behind the forearm for a strong overhead position. The goal is to bring the hand around to position the bar in the palm just behind the middle of the forearm as it moves overhead.
If you’re forced to use a fingertip jerk rack position, this is an even more dramatic and critical transition.
Begin transitioning as the bar leaves the shoulders-let the bar roll into the webbing between your thumb and forefinger as you drive your palm up into it.
If you’re having trouble with the motion and position overhead, practice with presses from your jerk rack position.

I'm curious. Do you have a video about how weightlifters change their grip from narrow to wider after the clean?

      Of course - th-cam.com/video/i0mNvaXQIxs/w-d-xo.html

taranenko jerked with a false grip (thumb not around the bar) - you can see this in his 266 jerk. lots of other russians do the same. thoughts? edit: they claim it helps them keep the wrist closer to the bar, exactly what you're talking about here

I think the only time to do it is when you have an anatomical or mobility issue that limits your ability to create a sound rack position. That said, I also believe that every lifter should do what produces the best results for them.

I wonder how important this is. I know that gabriel sicraian uses tip of fingers. Many lifters hold the bar with full grip in their rack position. I'm able to do both but neither feels particularly beneficial.

Gabriel is an Olympic athlete. An anomaly among anomalies. Besides the sheer amount of training hours he was/is a non natural athlete.

Watch this video again because you missed the point entirely. Then watch Sincraian jerk again because it sounds like you're not seeing what he's actually doing (it's exactly what I'm talking about here).
This is not about the rack position. This is about a transition into the overhead position. Sincraian jerks from a fingertip rack because he has to - he doesn't leave the hand/wrist/bar in the same position overhead.

there is nothing you can take away from Olympic level athletes. We need to do mortal things :)

@@Mr.Ciobanu This has nothing to do with his ability... he's not doing anything differently. The original comment here is based on misunderstanding/misinterpretation of both what this video is saying and what sincraian is doing.
