    I agree: Lightbicycle is extremely professional. I had a few sets of custom rims made at Lightbicycle and they are perfect.
    I really like that they give you the option of not drilling the spoke holes through the rim bed, which makes for super slick tubeless builds and adds a significant amoutn of ridgidity. Yes, you need to guide every nipple with a magnet and an insert to the spoke hole, but the endresult justifies the xtra effort.
    I actually just finished building a wheelst with these very rims yetserday.

    • @Hambini

      I totally agree. It's difficult to describe "professional" in a quantifiable term.

    I use lightbicycle wheels for few years, and they are awesome. I really like their customisation service, you can almost (or completely sometimes) pick every component of your wheels. Hubs, nipples, rim, spokes to your liking. Once they did not had hub what i want, but they somehow get it somewhere (in the covid times, when the hubs was not available anywhere).

  • @mondoabz
    @mondoabz ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I use Lightbicycle on all my bikes never had any issues. Anything custom they can do. They will lace any hub to your chosen rim, even sending them your old hubs is an option. At the time I first bought them prices were cheaper and I got 2 pairs of wheels (climbing and aero) for the price of a pair of “high end” wheels. Those days are gone but the wheels are still true probably outlasted the popular brand.

    I bought a set of 29er rims from light bicycle in their early days. They were rumored to be the same as the roval rims specialized was selling at the time. I beat on those rims for SIX years without any structural damage. I actually was able to sell them on to someone else. I've had rims from 2 of their competitors that delaminated or cracked in less than a year

    Please do an analysis on zero friction cycling test protocols. Can you actually test chain power efficiency measuring wear rate? From my research and testing wear rate efficiency, and power efficiency, is independent from one another. He claims lower wear rate is always indicative of lower power consumption. However he doesn't measure power only wear rate. So im not sure how he got to that hard conclusion. Simple Experiments can show that high wear rate and high power efficiency can coexist. Although he says on his websites that it cant. Would be interested to see your take on it👍

At first glance, they look really good quality. I had enve, bora, corima mcc, lightweigh and unfortunately a pair of zipp 454. 1310gr for 55mm,the standard model for rear rim and forward flyweight. can't wait to get my frame after 18 months of waiting! Late to the party, but I think the X flows really do work in crosswind stability. I bought mixed depth 465 front, 565 rear. I was expecting them to be more twitchy than the stock aluminum rims that came with my bike because these are deeper. Surprisingly they were less twitchy. I would've gone 565 front and back if I knew this beforehand.

    Hello. For road use and race what is optimal width tire to go with this rim? Im looking for a rim that light and is aero optimal for 28mm tire. Because 28mm are so comfy. But from what I see to have optimal aero with 28mm tire we need at least 30mm wide rim. Should I stay with 25mm to get the maximum of aero and rolling resistance? Thx

    • @gunterhackstock4480
      @gunterhackstock4480 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've answered your question halfways already. Don't know your 25C tire, but it could probably blow to 26,7 mm on this 21 mm inner diameter and 28 to 30 mm outer diameter rim. That would be fine to get the 105 % rim vs. tire width rule.
      For your 28 mm tire a wider rim with 30 to 32 mm width from the WR series would suit best in aero demands, if you care that much about it.

You use more material in a wave for the same straight length. Crinkle crankle walls resist more horizontal forces. Wouldn't this apply to this rim?

    The wavy rim should be compared to proper baselines. I got the reasoning of why they are more stable. But lets say, given the wavy one is maybe 50-54mm, and then it should be directly compared to a 50mm rim and a 54mm rim with similar shapes. If the aero drag and stability results of the wavy one end up somewhere in between... well, it is not actually improvement, it is just equal to maybe a 52mm rim ... while you might get more tangential drag...

    Hi Hambini, I love your engineering videos. The obsession over bicycle weight is rediculous unless completing at a very high level. The reason is the focus on bike weight alone. This is fine if the bike is ridding itself sans rider. A 170lb rider on a 20lb bike is a total of 190lbs. 170lb rider on a 30lb bike is a total of 200lbs. Only a difference of 10lb. This is only a 5% weight difference, not a 33% difference like the bike makers would have you believe. Most riders could easily loose 10lbs by spending less on food, rather then spend $$$ on ultra light parts.

    I have six sets of light bicycle carbon mtb wheelset’s.. the newest set I’m using light bicycle, new wavy design 930s carbon rims with onyx vesper with hybrid ceramic bearings internally they use a sprag clutch design that has zero drag and spin forever. Sapim cxray Spokes with brass nipples. Every set was built up by Dave Thomas of speed dreams. I only use brass nipples now as a result of aluminum nipples corroding from Calvinistic corrosion after about the five year mark. Nipples will just crumble, so no more alloy nipples for me. The new wave you designed for mountain biking has compliance built in to the rim that is noticeable and definitely remove some of the trail chatter!! Highly recommend light bicycle carbon hoops!! Even though I will never ride on the road!!

      Adam is an incredibly fake corporate type IME.
      I’ve made several requests to debate him on his ‘backyard data’ and instead he ignores my points and diverts the attention with some slander by sharing some conspiracy/hate website links about me. If you think I’m lying go watch his video about me. It’s soon to be his most viral video so far at this rate.
      Adam mate you are a disgrace to all the genuine rape victims out there. You know it mate. Get back to your spare room in the house your wife paid for and keep flipping Shimano chains to noobs for $200. Sad mate. You are ex cop so should know better.
      Live debate me if you have any credibility.
      You won’t reply to this. But everyone can see it. You claim you can measure power directly?? Why is everyone else using torque and cadence then?
      Even the name Zero Friction Cycling is misleading ESPECIALLY as you are trying to be a backyard chemical engineer wannabe. A more honest name would be ‘Backyard lube tests Australia’
      If I’m wrong about any of the above debate me. Unlike you I’m OK with being wrong. You can’t be wrong. Sociopaths can’t.

    At around 7:00, you mention that this wheelset power data looks a bit poor (at 609W absorbed) but that's because all the other models on your chart are deeper. OK. So why are you comparing them to deeper wheels? The chart on your own website has data for many other models, including: Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon Exalith at 45mm, Zipp 303 at 45mm, Giant SLR at 42mm, and LightBicycle own WR46C02 from 2019 at 46mm - all of which show lower power absorption. Why compare to less comparable wheels if you have data points for stuff that's similar?
    I must be missing something completely obvious here and would like to know what it is :-)

    • @Hambini
      @Hambini  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've got two charts, one for disc wheels and one for rim. The rim brake has loads of wheels in it. The disc brake one doesn't have as many.

    • @saltycycling
      @saltycycling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hambini Ah! Thank you. As suspected, it was something obvious. I've got the 50km/h chart in the bookmarks and there's no mention of the braking technology in that article, nor a footnote to the disc-specific entry, so I just completely missed it. Can I ask whether the disc-brake wheels are tested with the disc on? Or are the discs off and any performance delta between rim and disc models is a result of other factors, e.g. spoke count (e.g. Lún Hyper D45 vs. R45, 21 spoke front and 16 spoke front respectively).

    I know your whole aim is to be abrasive at times, but not normalising the volume of the sound on your videos is just unproductive and annoying to be honest. Make all the non-PC jokes you want if you have valid information to give, which you do, there however is no reason for poor sound production, I almost said production value there, but the pen is working says we will stick with sound there!
