Hey man, I watched this video like 3 times - once to see if I could do it. Once after the part came. And once while I was doing the job. Made it so easy, and you didn’t have a full auto shop, so you showed us folks without a lift and special tools how do to it the amateur way - which is great. I was able to do it myself, save a bunch of money, and have some fun while doing it. Appreciate you and your son doing this. I bet you have single-handedly helped people save over a million dollars Thank you!
Thank you for making this video. I just changed the CV Axle on my wife’s 2012 Honda Odyssey with zero issues because of this video. I’m not mechanically inclined, but your visuals and descriptions made it simple. Thanks again!
Awesome video my guy you are most definitely a master mechanic who broke things down easily appreciate the videos and kudos for giving us the free knowledge may you continue to prosper wish u nothing but the best on your journey 💪🏾💪🏾🔥!!!
12:00 - 14:00 when you got stuck on getting the inner end to release - the trick on these cars is to pry gently at the inner end while slowly rotating the axle. Easiest to do that by having a helper turn the right front wheel. There is a c-ring in there that sometimes gets hung up in a groove in the shaft, and the rotation help it self-center.
Thanks Nestor Auto Repair. I did a CV axle replacement on my 2015 Odyssey last weekend, using your video as a guide, and the van has worked great since then.
Yeah good video brother and the part where you taking off the axle I was already thinking Honda's normally don't have space to work comfortably but nice work keep it up ✌️💯
it took me 20 minutes just to remove the tire. JK lol.. great video. I was able to replace both front struts and shocks, Wheeling bearing, rotors and break pads. And passenger side Axel only because I was hearing the pooping sound and my wheel was making click sound when move back and forth 9 and 3 hold. It took me 3 days in total. (I also work 9 to 5) so I was only working 6:30 to 8:30. I will highly recommend when you work on the car, make sure you have extra car (Putting it back struts was not an easy task and also removing the hub bearing and axel was not a joke) I do have most tools. Maybe not mechanic grade but they do the job.
I've done several of these axles, and the easiest way I've found to release the inner side is to rent a slide hammer. A 3 fingered puller fits right into pre-made grooves in the inner axle. One bang and it comes right out.
Yes, true. O'Rielly's carries one they'll loan out free (with deposit). Inner housing has a groove that 3 fingered puller fits into. The puller bolts onto the slide hammer. Yep, one bang and it's out.
Good video Nester. I did this on my 86' Honda Prelude 20+ years ago. I expect to do it again on another car in the near future due to a little clicking on the left CV Axle.
Chissle, bar , breaker bar, 36 socket, flat head screw driver, 12,14, 22, key and hammer dw 40, pry bar, tools needed for passenger side cv axle replacement
I used this method instead of taking out the ball joint and control arm.. I struggled with pulling out the shaft with my prybar because I was leaning against the swaybar bushing. It's easier with a shorter prybar
Something I found out while replacing the drivers CV axel of a Honda Odyssey 2013 was that clip, spring or O-ring of new axel was not completely round was different than old part on the car. So I do recommend to validate this otherwise you will have a lot of issue while placing new axel. Used old clip and that slowed me to set new part
Noooo never do transmission flush on any car ,, that will kill it, just do drain and fill and also do the trans filter ,, is your choice if you want to change both ,if one is bad the other one is on the way
let us know how the odyssey operates after the axle replacement. did you have any more issues? As a helpful tip, when inserting there new axle in, use some silicone grease around the teeth of the new shaft. It helps it slide in easier....
The passenger side is actually a slightly different process There is a hanger and a longer axle. I'm doing the job right now and it caught me off guard lol
This is one way of doing it but not the best way to do it in my opinion, another option is to remove lower ball joint from knuckle, and remove outer tierod from knuckle no Need to remove strut bolts (that may affect alignment) or caliper (not necessary) and of of course the axle nut which torqure specs is i believe 180 ft lbs, in this precedure in video u can possibly snap the abs sensor or stretch it out internally and cause abs problems later and on passenger side axle has a carrier bearing that is held on by two 14 mm bolts and will slide out without prying
I like your version more due to the fact that I mess up in the process of removing the lower ball joint with ball joint separator on a different vehicle. Expensive lesson learn. I rather remove the knuckle and do the realignment after the job is done. Thank you very much for your tutorial and GREAT JOB to your SON who video the entire process in the cold garage. GREAT JOB young man to hang with your dad.
Yes I found out both sides aren’t the same this thread has been helping. I’m struggling to get the passenger side out (yes I removed the 14mm bolts). Should the van be in neutral?
Brother , when I was trying to stick it in I bent the little round pin , because it doesn’t click at the first time So I pulled and now it has a bigger gap What I would do ? Try to fix the pin?
Oh men , well if you can't get it to close , you can try taking the old one out and use it , remember the cut need to be facing down,, also if you don't use the ring nothing will happens wheels is not coming out , so don't worry if you need to put it with out the ring
So my 2014 odyssey vibrates after 65 mph til about 78mph. Do you think changing this will solve the problem. I changed to new tires and replaced the brakes also. Thanks in adu
At the 14:00 minute mark you showed the normal tool that usually works, but you had to go with a smaller "pry bar" (looks like a curved head screw driver). What's the name of the tool that usually works?

Nice job sir. I liked the tip about making sure the ring sits on top of the shaft so the shaft clicks in easier.
Just replaced mine today after watching this and it definitely made it easier. Thank you for the video.
You're welcome , thanks for your feedback boss
How many miles on your at the time?

Noooo never do transmission flush on any car ,, that will kill it, just do drain and fill and also do the trans filter ,, is your choice if you want to change both ,if one is bad the other one is on the way
Nestor Auto Repair Thanks
excellent tip about the ring..

Hi, thanks for the video. Do you recommend Honda OEM cc axle. If not what is the best after market brand for 2011 Honda Odyssey EXL. Thanks
What I don't recommend is from the auto parts store they don't last 6 months and the boots will be leaking
Excellent video.
Thanks boss
Did you use Honda port or after market where did you buy it Great video.
Not OEM this are form carquest, thanks for your feedback
Awesome vid. Do you think this would work the same for a 2011 Honda pilot?
Yes pilot are the same
@@nestorautorepair You're a blessing! THANK YOU!
Thanks boss
Video help me get my CV axle changed out I appreciate it thank you.
U are welcome Kody
Thanks for your feedback
Does a bad cv axle make a popping noise when turning?
Thanks great video, very helpful, everything went great! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
You welcome Lindsay ,, thanks for your feedback

Muy bueno y practico gracias amigo...

The passenger side is actually a slightly different process There is a hanger and a longer axle. I'm doing the job right now and it caught me off guard lol
Lol but same prosses
Your awesome brother! Thank you 🙏
You're welcome boss thanks for your feedback
Thanks bro Now I think I can handle it 👍🏽
Your welcome boss, thanks for your feedback
What was the issue faced by driver? for you to replace the CV axle?
Shaking after 60mph
@@nestorautorepair Thank you; you are too kind to take time to reply. This helps a lot. Sympton. Thank you!
This is one way of doing it but not the best way to do it in my opinion, another option is to remove lower ball joint from knuckle, and remove outer tierod from knuckle no
Need to remove strut bolts (that may affect alignment) or caliper (not necessary) and of of course the axle nut which torqure specs is i believe 180 ft lbs, in this precedure in video u can possibly snap the abs sensor or stretch it out internally and cause abs problems later and on passenger side axle has a carrier bearing that is held on by two 14 mm bolts and will slide out without prying
Got it,, thanks for your feedback and suggestions
Agreed, removing tie rod and ball joint is much easier and requires no alignment
I believe the correct torque spec for the axle nut is 242 ft lbs., at least for my 2015 Odyssey. drivcat.com/HubWheelTorqueTableWindow.aspx?a=7790
I like your version more due to the fact that I mess up in the process of removing the lower ball joint with ball joint separator on a different vehicle.
No need to put anti-seize on the axle splines?
Damn thanks for the help , super helpful
Is it the same on both sides?
Good job
Question is why is it being replaced in the first place. Is there something about this vans and axels? Thanks
Yes so this van was whacking a lot after 60mph problem fix
How many miles on the Honda?
147k
Do you know if these steps will apply to a 2014 Honda Pilot?
Yes same
What's the average/expected cost for this repair. Thanks
I will say no more then $80 labor per sides
Why did you had to replace the cv joint… old one seemed to be okay, with the booth intact?
Car was shaking after 60mph
Do you do them in pairs? My Odyssey is shaking pretty bad.
I had fix honda odyssey that were shaking bad by replacing both yes,, is better if you do both
Is that axle Honda oem or after market brand ?
I believe aftermarket
I use a pry bar the best way the axle out easy
Yes sir good!!
Who else here has at least one snap-on or Milwaukee tool but still uses a harbor freight floorJacks and sockets? I know I do
Lmao there you go nice
what cv axles brand you used? OEM or autozone cv axles
I just instal what people buy and yes most are from the Auto parts they last like 2 years lol
@@nestorautorepair thanks
@@nestorautorepair What CV Axle would you recommend?
@@toeonthetrigger7531 hi if you can get OEM will be better
Advance auto has lifetime warranty, i believe.
Use coupon code and they aren't terribly expensive.

Having the same issue on our 2016.
Thanks a lot.
You're welcome,, thanks for the feedback
At the 14:00 minute mark you showed the normal tool that usually works, but you had to go with a smaller "pry bar" (looks like a curved head screw driver). What's the name of the tool that usually works?
Fork & Shim Popper Tool
But they sale a special tools I just order today is like a dent puller
Pickle fork
I have a question. when you do this job by dislocating the knuckle from the strut, do you have to do the alignment check?
Nop not at all it can only go one way
I am facing issues with axle's splines to align/insert into the transmission side. almost trying from a day, any suggestions?
You need to have the cut on the ring facing down
@Nestor Auto Repair Thanks for your reply. I am already doing that, but no luck
Ok boss good luck
Ajay did u fix it? If so how?
@@morwaze i keep on trying to insert it, after a day was able to insert it 🙂
A lot of oil leaked out when I took it out! What's the matter?
You had too much oil in your transmission then
thank you very much!
You are very welcome
JACK STAND!! SAVE YOUR LIFE!
Yes sir
Hi why did you have to change it because on my I heard a click noise went I turned the left and right a on one of my cv axl I see grease on the boot
Yes this one was making a vibration after 60mph ,, some will make the clicking noise when turning on low speed yes
Nestor Auto Repair thank you I will let you know if I fix it
Ok boss thanks
If I take the way you did out do I have to get a Wheel alignments yes or no are the other ways
Do I also have to Torque wrench to get to the spec
torque wrench for the axle nut my dude
I think you should have torque the axle nut!
Sure yes
Air gun works best
Yes
Nobody wants to do videos of the passenger side CV. Why??? Cuz it's way harder and a big pain in the ass. Haha
.
Probably yes, because Nestor answered almost everyone's comments here, but he didn't answer to you.
So probably yes..
I'm here looking for help too.
Should of take the abs sensor off first
Yeah good lucking taking it off for no reason , you will damage it , 9 out of 10 will break the bolt or the sensor , but yeah go ahead and do it
