    The models aren't to blame. Those shoes are fucking insane

      +Melanie T. Indeed these platform shoes are insane, Melanie, but a model's job precisely consists in being able to walk up and down a catwalk while wearing any kind of shoes ! So I don't say models are to blame, but I'm simply saying that they are rather well paid just to be able to walk in these "insane" shoes, so when this kind of runway disasters happen, it's always a hard blow for the designer and a wince for every fashionista...

    • @melan288
      @melan288 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Annabella Winsteald Models are humans too. Do you really expect them strut in 8 inches heels? Yes, they are models and are expected to walk in insane shoes, but 8 inches? The designers rather should come up with outfits and heels that are more manageable to avoid freak accidents like this on the runway

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Melanie T. I understand your thinking, Melanie, but I have to say you that in high fashion most designers don't think about praticity but just about aesthetics and/or originality, every designer wanting to design something "never seen". And the fact that aesthetic prevails over practicality is actually one of the cornerstones of high fashion compared to ready-to-wear. So of course it's unavoidable that sometimes this kind of "freak accidents" happen, but after all, seeing that this video has more than 350 000 views and nearly 400 "likes", people seem to enjoy watching these accidents as much as the actual fashion shows ! :-)

    This is an example of bad designers. Those poor models have to hold on to each other to walk off the stage, hopefully not to the hospital for broken ankles or hips.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, "bad designers"... the outfits per se aren't bad I think, it's the shoes which obviously caused much trouble. But while the platform shoes of the first part have been specially made for this fashion show, the ones which caused the most falls (from 0.59 to the end of the video) are by Christian Louboutin ! And yes, in their misfortune, models have nonetheless been lucky to be able to help each other...

    There should be policies to protect young inexperienced models from fashion designers and show organizers who expect their models to over-expose baring breasts, be weightless skinny, use shoes and accessories that can potentially harm these models and their careers in the long run.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well, having been myself a model, I can tell you that there are policies and rules to protect fashion models. Firstly, models can refuse to wear "indecent" clothes (= clothes which reveal the boobs and/or the butt). A model's walk in transparent clothes is paid +50% and a walk partially naked is paid +100%, but a model can nonetheless refuse to wear this kind of clothes without prejudice to her career.
      Secondly, an excessive thinness is not required any longer. Nowadays, fashion models must of course be rather slim, but not skinny. For example a model has been refused during a Spanish fashion week because she was "too skinny" (= starving).
      Thirdly, there's of course an insurance in case of injury caused by the outfits/shoes during a model's walk on the runway. But I've to tell you that even in the case of models falling down in dizzyingly high heels and cumbersome dresses, I never saw nor heard of a model who would have been injured during a fashion show.

Normal high heels are much more attractive too.

      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, I agree with you. But actually there's a kind of "race to excess" among young Chinese designers competing : they don't want to design wearable clothes, but oversized outfits. Each designer, seeing the other ones’ designs, designs an even larger dress, an even longer train... and even higher platform shoes... And of course disasters happen frequently !
      For example several models also fell down in similar platform shoes during the Asahi Kasei Zhang YiChao Fall/Winter 2010-11 fashion show :

So I don't think it can be "dangerous" for the models.

      Well, you know, these girls are professional models, so their work is precisely to be able to walk up and down a catwalk in any creation of a designer, including sometimes "unwearable" ones ! They are rather well paid just to walk a few dozen meters in whole, so they can't really "refuse" to wear a certain dress or a certain pair of shoes... And by the way, how can you tell "shit" about these outfits ? I can understand you write "I don't like these clothes" or even "I don't find these clothes pretty", but no rudeness please.
      At last, concerning the "safety", having been myself a model and being a girl who frequently wears very high heels in everyday life, I can sincerely tell you that tripping/falling because of high heels is a rather common thing, but it's really very rare to get injured because of that - so I don't think there could be "safety" problems about these models :-)

      Amy Hernandez Hello Amy ! Please don't misunderstand my words : no, of course it's impossible to run (or to do any activity) with these shoes on. I simply responded to someone that these shoes, although they're impractical, don't cause "safety problems" for the models who wear them - and additionally, that it's precisely a model's job to be able to walk on the runway in this kind of shoes. But of course these shoes will be never worn in real life ! Myself I sometimes wear very high heels (up to 6 inches) but never this kind of 10-inch platform shoes.

  • @furqanulhakim5569
    @furqanulhakim5569 10 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Do the disigners think people are interested to buy that kinds of shoes? Good designers should not only think about personal expressions. But they also have to think about the safety of people and also the models. Yes, art is freedom of expressions. But safety is a main part of art too.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, firstly these shoes aren't commercially sold ; they have been designed only to be "impressive" for this fashion show...
      And yes, I agree with you that safety is a part of art. But I nonetheless think that a designer must be free to choose this kind of platform shoes for the models if he/she considers that they are the most suitable footwear for his/her collection. Furthermore, having been myself a model and being a girl who frequently wears very high heels in everyday life, I can sincerely tell you that tripping/falling because of high heels is a rather common thing, but it's really very rare to get injured because of that ; so I don't think there are too much troubles concerning the "safety" of the models :-)

      @furqanulhakim5569 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      even if it was not for commercially. impressive? in what part?

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      furqanul hakim Don't misunderstand my thoughts : "Impressive" is perhaps not the right word ; I just wanted to say that the designer chose these platform shoes to enhance the beauty and uniqueness of his clothes/outfits, in order to make an "extraordinary" and "marvellous" fashion show. Of course in the present case it has been a total fail since the poor models didn't succeed to walk in these shoes, and thus kept tripping and falling down.
      The funny thing is that men designers invariably think that very high heels will make their models look powerful and self-confident, while actually they only make them shaky and tottering !

    • @cirep6328
      @cirep6328 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Being a model isn't just about having a pretty face. When a model enter the room, we will inform her what should she expect, from sky high heel to being topless, anything can happen. And if she doesn't feel comfortable doing what we expect, she always has the option to say no. Fashion industry is no walk in the park, there are plenty show which are very safe. But there are also show that require models to put a lot of effort in. Sometime, they will have to wear shoes that glued to their feet cause it's too big, or wearing a pair that 2 sizes smaller. In show like these, shoes and clothes are not meant to be accessories for the girls who wear them, the girls are hire to showcase them, they are the main focus point.

      @AnnabellaWinsteald  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, everything you write is absolutely true! On my side, I'm a young woman and I frequently wear high heels (occasionally very high ones), and indeed it's better to put your weight on your toes rather than on the heel part, especially when you are wearing stilettos. That said, even by walking this way, I think falls were unavoidable concerning this precise fashion show, given the extreme height of the platform shoes...

    all the tripping aside, the translucent "taped dress form" look was my least favorite, so all the bruised knees were even less worth it in my eyes.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +去我 Well, contrary to what you think, the models didn't hurt themselves : concerning the model wearing the white dress, she was unable to get up by herself simply because of her too restrictive hobble dress and her too high platform shoes - as you can see, when she fell for the first time, she needed the help of a spectator in order to get up, and so when she fell down for the second time, since there was no person to help her and she was just two meters from the exit, she had no other solutions than to crawl ! And concerning the model who kept falling down, the designer explained in an interview that during the rehearsals she had no problem to walk in the platform shoes, but during the actual show her feet were sweaty and so the insole quickly became slippery, which made it virtually impossible for her to walk anymore... but thankfully she wasn't hurt - she simply couldn't manage to walk in her slippery platform shoes any longer.

      +Annabella Winsteald After the first model gets up,you can see she limps obviously.Because she can't insist to walt,she falls down second times.The second model obvious has hurt herself.She can't stand,you can find some photo to see her expression,she is very painful.And you can see that this two model don't appear at final show,because they are too painful to walk.

    Even some of the outfits are silly. Where would you wear that red outfit with your underpants hanging out?
    I wonder if the reason why the models don't help each other when they fall over is because they can't because they're scared they too will fall off their silly, impractical shoes?

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you : some of the outfits are silly. But once again I repeat that they are not intended to be worn by whoever - apart the models of course.
      Yes, you're right, trying to help a fallen model while wearing similar shoes seems to be risky. I read in a Catwalk Review that during a prestigious fashion show at Dubai a model fell during the finale walk, and the following model tried to help her up... but instead she ended up falling too ! I don't know how it all ended... (the catwalk was apparently too slippery).

      Yes, indeed, very humiliating, especially since the poor model is not even responsible : As you can see, the right side of her dress didn't open properly, and so the girl stepped on the fabric, which led her to lose her balance and fall down.

    The shoes are gorgeous but it's obvious the girls did not practice walking in them before the show. Also I see all these silly comments like 'the clothes are so stupid where would you even wear that?', well not everything you see in a runway show will be marketed, not every single piece of the collection is meant to be placed on a rack in a store, some designs are meant to show the vision and the creativity of the designer and will later on be stored in the archive. Plus there are actually a lot of celebrities that like to go through designer archives and wear pieces that have never made it to the public mass.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you're absolutely right : Haute Couture clothes, unlike Ready-to-Wear, are not intended to be worn by real people during everyday life, but only by some celebrities for special occasions. And in the present case, these insane outfits and shoes were not intended to be worn by whoever (apart the models) - they have only been designed to make an "extraordinary", "wonderful", "marvelous" fashion show... a shame that the models failed to walk in these platform shoes. By the way, it seems that there has nonetheless been a rehearsal, judging by this photo set :

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lawrence Fernandes Yes, I tend to agree with you. But fashion designers will reply you that only the clothes/outfits have to be "creative". The shoes don't necessarily have to be "creative" per se ; they only have to highlight the creativity of the clothes. Of course in the present case these foolish platform shoes only served to detract from the clothes and make the whole show ridiculous since the poor models didn't succeed to walk properly and ended up on the floor. But if the girls had not fallen, this fashion show would have been a great success, I think.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jose Cardenas 1- "those shoes mistreat the back" : It might be true if the girls had to wear them for a long distance, but these models just walk up and down the catwalk (a few dozen meters in whole). 2- "those platforms are horrible" : it's a matter of taste ; generally speaking, men consider that such shoes are sexy and attractive ! 3- "It does not have sense to use those shoes" : in occidental countries, platform shoes are assimilated to stripper shoes and so it would be regarded as bad taste to use them during fashion shows ; but in Asian countries (especially in China and in Japan) this connotation doens't exist : on the contrary, this kind of platform shoes are considered as a symbol of elegance and refinement (e.g. Geisha shoes) ; so it's no surprise that 8-10 inches high platform shoes are frequently featured during Chinese fashion shows.

    "Tottering on 8-inch high platform shoes" well i know yes "its fashion" and i believe that the girls either should be notified of this item in a show OR a more time saving option would be for all models to practice any time anywhere in different shoes build some ankle and calf muscle there to hold themselves up also , they should take it steady and no flashy moves i mean yes you can walk in them until you decide to "walk" in them then you fail o.o

  • @hantingchen5497

    Walking in these heels just takes experience, do not blame a designer for their expression, this is their art gallery and whether the frames of their artwork can hold itself together is not the artists fault. Although I do agree these heels are detrimentally high, that is one of the aspects of the modeling industry.

    You can't really blame the designers for the models incompetency. Maybe my opinion is biased because I am a designer, but I know what it's like to find the perfect shoes to complement an outfit and how hard it is to try and change your mind after finding those shoes. I think if these girls knew the were going to be wearing these really tall heels they should have practiced walking in them before hand. Sorry, but I'm paying you to make my clothes look good, not fall on your face.

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with you that the shoes are a key component of an outfit, and that finding appropriate/suitable shoes is really important. But I disagree with you when you speak about the "models incompetency". I worked myself in the fashion world, and I can tell you that when the shoes are more than 6-7 inches high, there is a high risk that some of the models trip/fall, even if they are well trained to walk in such shoes - especially when the outfits they have to wear are very cumbersome and interfere with their walk...
      For example the Zhang YiChao Fall/Winter 2010-11 fashion show :
      FOUR MODELS FALL during Zhang Yichao show (VIDEO)

      Agree if u find the right shoes to go w the outfit but there are always more options...but definitely disagree with you talking down Bout the models they are clearly trained models and professional its not their fault they fall u should pick up a pair and walk into the runway urself...be in their shoes before u judge them and shoes like that not only can't a professional model walk in them but they destroy ur feet and places them too high to even move right...no normal person would want to wear that...not meant for walking...

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

And of course model's falls happen frequently !
      For example several models also fell down in similar shoes and outfits during the Asahi Kasei Zhang YiChao Fall/Winter 2010-11 fashion show :
      FOUR MODELS FALL during Zhang Yichao show (VIDEO)

    Oh well i am fashion designer too and i can tell you that these shoes are crazy.
    For instance, McQueen did amazing platform shoes but these ones are just fetish pumps.
    Twisted ankles for the sake of “art” 🙄
    When i read your comments it sounds pretty much like money can earn everything. Being model doesn’t prevent you to have some safety and rights.
    I hope in the meantime, you understood that.

  • @jimrandom
    @jimrandom 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Of course these shoes are very high, but the arch is not excessively steep. Some of the models seem to get along just fine. I have expereince with steeper fetish heels and walking in the for a few minutes is very doable. I rather suspect that the models who have such difficulties are using shoes that are too large. It is the LOOSE FIT that makes them wobble. If not, their muscles are really to weak and they should have declined the job. But then, as has been mentioned, walking in heels is something that a model should know best. Whether such shoes are practical for everyday use is a valid question, but that can be said of most of the clothes presented in fashion shoes anyway. Maybe one should just see it as a (failed) attempt at presenting a piece of art? Or it was simply meant to be funny :-)

    • @AnnabellaWinsteald
      @AnnabellaWinsteald  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Joe Doe Everything you say is very true ! Indeed almost all haute couture gowns and shoes must be seen as art works and not as practical clothes and accessories. I also know that walking in this kind of stripper platform shoes is not so difficult : as you can see in this video, all of the models strutted on the catwalk without problem, except for three ones, due to wardrobe malfunctions : Concerning the first one in the red outfit, the right side of her dress didn't open properly, and so the girl stepped on the fabric, which led her to lose her balance and fall down. Concerning the model in the long white dress, the bottom of her gown was cut too low and kept getting stuck under the model's platform shoes, hence the two falls. And concerning the model who kept falling down, her feet were sweaty and the insole slippery, and so her feet moved around in the shoes - add to this the lack of confidence after her first fall, and it was virtually impossible for her to walk anymore...
      So all these falls were actually caused by several problems, and not directly by the platform shoes.

    • @jimrandom
      @jimrandom 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Annabella Winsteald: Well observed - often the shoes are not a problem, but restrictive clothes or... a slippery floor. In their own interest the designers might want to pay a bit more attention to the circumstances under which models have to work. Time pressure, wrong size shoes, inadequate catwalk floor are all things that can be avoided with a bit of effort.
      A good question is how the model should react after taking a tumble. I personally find it best when they smile, it is funny after all. And I liked a video where another model helps her colleague to get up again.
      Maybe you should make a video with tips for models on how to avoid falling down and how to deal with it if it happens!
