Way to go, man! Yes, it's one of the less desirable Corvette models from the dark ages of underpowered cars, but hey, it's still a Vette, ratty or not. What many car guys don't get, these C3s have 4 wheel disc brakes, independent rear suspension, low point of gravity and almost perfect weight distribution. If the car is halfway decently maintained, it drives way better than any common Muscle Car. The 4 speed manual is so easy to shift and suits the car much better than the automatic. The reclined seating position is actually very comfortable once you get used to it. So in a nutshell: Great car to take (very) long road trips in. Oh, you probably guessed it, I'm partial to Corvettes and have a soft spot for guys who actually drive them. Loved your video.

If you enjoy driving long distances in piles of junk, I recommend you look into the Le'Mons Rallies here in the US. We did a 2800 mile trek last year around all of the great lakes and blew up the engine in our 89 Celebrity. We got 4ish months to get our Fiat X1/9 ready for the next one (and it needs every minute it can get).

Really enjoyed your video. But I don't think most people "hate" these Corvettes. They're just not worth much because the stock horsepower sucks because, well, everything sucked in the mid 70's. That and they made SO many of them. But they're only some simple mods away from being as good or better driving wise than any other Vette that came before it.

This video showed up on my list so I watched it. Great video. I have a shop that I own a one man show. By the way the car not starting after sitting awhile is most likely the carb. leaking gas down into the intake. Pull the carb drain it. Flip it over there is 2 soft plugs on underside of throttle body. Remove base plate to get a good look. Clean area real good and apply some epoxy to the plugs. Gas friendly epoxy. Hope that helps. @@CarGroves The stock dist. Can be recurved. The Q-jet can be jetted properly & will make plenty of power. Carb & intake are usually the first things people replace but in this case not really necessary. Don't go crazy on cam. 230° at .05 & .480 lift is plenty. Vortec heads can be bought used cheap. I've built plenty of low budget junkyard combinations in the past & whipped up on big $ rides. I think it's great that no one wants latter C-3's & C-4's. Puts a lot of cheap Vette's in the hands of budget builders.

I never understood the hate for this generation of Corvette. I actually think they are cool looking. Personally, I think the newer ones are the "ugly" generation. From the front, I almost mistake the for a newish Viper every time, and from the rear, they look like a riced out Camaro that got punched in the ass.

I am a little late to the party but nice video. I just bought a 1980 4 speed C3 a couple months ago, it is not as ratty in appearance as yours but I have definitely spent a lot more time and money getting it sorted mechanically. I am sure you figured it out by now but the rear end noise may be non-LSD gear oil in your posi. Also I dont know how you could stand driving it around with the lights up all the time, before I fixed my vacuum actuators I would manually raise them only when I needed the headlights, they kind of ruin the profile of the car. The later C3s are not fast cars but they arent slow either and are so much fun to drive with a manual.

The rear suspension, control arms, wheel bearings can be a hassle to set up, and the bird cage of steel under the fiberglass and around the windshield can become a rusty mess, and the brake caliper design makes seized calipers very common. Otherwise they are great driving cars, more of a grand tourer than a sports car.
