    You just helped me out a bunch! I have dry and dehydrated skin (perks of living in a dry climate!) and I've always wondered why my skin reacts so poorly to a bunch of acids. My favorite gentle acid I just discovered is Eco Your Skin Bedside Mask Lavender Milk. It likely won't be enough for people who are used to strong acids, but it's perfect for me! My magic combo a couple nights a week is Mizon All-in-one Snail Repair Cream + Missha Longer Name Ampoule + the lavender mask.

    Hi Renee
    I am so glad to see you back. I'm very sorry for your loss, I've been dealing with one myself recently. I admit, I haven't been keeping up the best skincare routine (or any routine) since, but it's nice to feel like we're both getting back into our respective rhythms together.

      Aw Leticia, I'm so sorry. Self-care is impossible when you're watching someone you love suffer. It's taken time for me to get back to even caring about what I put on my face or in my stomach but the ones we lost wouldn't want it that way. Let's do this together. Love and hugs.

    • @MSmahal001
      @MSmahal001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      In the medical field, that's one way to test for dehydration. If it's tenting ur + for dehydration. Esp. the elderly they're always dehydrated.

    • @yasminehmmm6020
      @yasminehmmm6020 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Serena P yeah it’s called skin “tenting” and that’s actually a symptom in many other problems. If someone is that dehydrated they need medical attention lol

      Exactly.

    • @facewrinkles3886
      @facewrinkles3886 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You are right. I was 17 and got really sick. My mom told me to "drink it away." I ended up drinking 1.5 gallons of water a day and eating next to nothing because a high fever reduced my appetite. My skin bounced back immediately when the doctor pinched it, but I actually needed an IV to treat my dehydration (the main issue was pneumonia). I fully do not support this tenting method, and I'd like to warn others to balance out their salt and water intake.

    • @ariaciano6910
      @ariaciano6910 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, that is an entirely different sort of dehydration! Your skin is the last organ to receive water, so if your skin is showing signs of dehydration via skin tenting, that is CLINICAL dehydration, an emergency only an IV can fix... not Habo Labo toner........
      Additionally, upper layers of your facial skin can be dehydrated (in a more superficial, cosmetic sense, not clinical) while the rest of your body isn’t, so pinching the skin on your hand really doesn’t make sense (and again... if your hand is not tenting properly that is a SERIOUS medical issue indicating whole body dehydration that requires prompt medical attention).
      Also... clinical dehydration is better assessed by the gums than skin tenting anyway. If they look pale and feel sticky even shortly after drinking some water..: time to go to urgent care!

    The isntree hyaluronic toner that you've recommended in other videos has been a LIFE SAVER for my dehydrated skin!

  • @michaelhofby
    @michaelhofby 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're correct! The most important thing is to add moisture to your skin and keep it in there! Regardless of skin type really because as you say it can create a ton of problems by stripping skin from oils and water.. I have just discovered how important moisturizing really is - a good cleanser that doesn't strip skin and then a toner/lotion to add moisture (hyrolonic acid, squalane, glycerin etc.) , and then a good moisturizer is really all you need for healthy skin! Of course, some exfoliation is good once in a while too.

    I absolutely, deeply, sincerely, appreciate THIS video soo much. It’s the first time on TH-cam (and I research skincare a lot) that my skin type and experience has been really identified. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Watching your videos is a life changer for me to be honest. The difference between dry and dehydrated skin never before had been explained so well! I'm oily, but also severely dehydrated and I never knew what to do about that as nothing really worked... The heavy creams that I was recommended would only make it worse and clog my pores. Now it's all clear! So thank you! ❤️

    For me, yes, Japanese and Korean Beauty products have provided the answer to my dry, sensitive and aging skin. However, it is YOU, Renee (Gothamista, you are the first one who has put it all together in language that we can all understand. Thank you so much for your videos. I started Retin A and my skin was unhappy. I didn’t understand the difference between dryness and dehydration and was just slathering oils and creams on it. Three days into using your recommended hydrating toners and my face was in such great shape I was able to increase the frequency of the Retin A! Also, thanks for giving us budget friendly options.

Cannot recommend Korean/Japanese hydrating toners and 7skins method enough. Thank you!!

    Welcome back, Renée! 💕 So happy to see a new video from you, especially on this snowy nor’easter day! ❄️
    Thanks for another informative and helpful video, and looking forward to more. (I’m looking at you, Renée’s Magnum Opus on Vitamin C!) Please take as much (or as little!) time as you need, we’ll be here. 😊
