    I fell down some stairs, carrying my Switch Lite, after owning it about a month, and ended up with a nasty dead zone on one of the analog sticks. I’ve never repaired electronics in my life but managed to swap it out with the help of this video, and now it feels good as new. Thank you! 👏👏👏

    For anyone wondering, there was a joycon stick revision around mid to late 2018 and they're the same one seen in the switch lite. My yellow joycons (that I bought in September 2018) have this new stick and they haven't drifted. Interestingly enough I got a Red/Blue set in late April 2019 and the left joycon had the new stick and the right joycon had the old stick. Sure enough, that red joycon has been working fine, while my right joycon started drifting. I don't remember how long it took to drift, but it did within a year.

  • @DZenitram23

    I have the lite and noticed from others as my self that it's not a drift but the opposite when you put the analog to the right it drifts back towards the center and back to the position its pointing at. I have seen poeple cleaning the stick but didnt work for me so I'm replacing it with a switch stick (black) since they r compatible. thanks for the video.

      I heard the term "graphite pads" to describe the technology of those joysticks. A pad that has a piece rub on it and it can detect the position. It's very cheap but not that durable and that's the whole problem.

      @AltheaIsana 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AltheaIsana I don't know for sure but seeing Eliot's video make me think it might be the same tech as the joysticks look almost exactly the same. Nintendo pretty much admit there is a problem because they fix the drifting for free on the old model. I have to say the metal shielding is probably more for rf signals than it is for heat dissipation because the fan blows air though the heatsink for the processor and not the heat shield itself as that would do a whole lot of cooling. It could help direct the air though the heatsink and not just blowing air vaguely around inside.

      Great video! I want the switch lite. I have a good gaming desktop that I use primarily, but I want something handheld. Because of this, I honestly have no need to play on the TV. This is for my play time when not using my computer. Laying in bed, laying on the couch, while traveling etc..
      I have seen countless people online advising people like me to buy the regular switch and never to buy the lite. The biggest reason is the joystick drift. This really concerns me. How can I justify spending more money on something that doesn't seem necessary? You make it look easy to take apart, and ultimately fix. But what if it's the other joystick? Is it usually just the one side that ends up being problematic? How has the lite held up for you? Has anyone here had a lite for a while without issues? I really want to get one of these but I'm just really worried and it's making me chicken out! There are so many horrible things online about it!

    Now that you tear down newer stuff, i would highly recommend to get an anti static mat to work on. Stuff like a GB hardly get fried even if you rub your socks on a poly carpet while working on it. Stuff like a switch might get fried duo to micro discharge. Ofc, this happens rarely but you do tear down stuff on a regular basis.

    • @M8Military
      @M8Military 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have it backwards. Older tech are much much more succeptible to static discharge due to them having no protection built into them. Modern devices can handle static discharge 99% of the time

    • @JOhnDoe-nl4wj
      @JOhnDoe-nl4wj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@M8Military Not sure where you got that from but i have to give you a hard pass on that. Do not, for a second, believe that modern stuff is any less
      susceptible to static discharges. It's not. In fact, the smaller the build form, the more
      susceptible it is. I got SO DIMMS fried from touching them once. Do not cheap out on a simple anti static mat with grounding and foul yourself with "they got protection build in". They do not have any protection once you work on them.

      I just noticed mine started doing it recently. I've had my switch lite since the Links Awakening launch. So the joysticks did have a great quality. It wasn't until i started to play stuff like Saints Row 3, Hellblade, and Resident EVIL where I started noticing it.
      But on the bright side, fixing the issue on this looks more easier and less complicated than a PS4 Controller. I hated fixing those joysticks and making sure that stuff like the sensor bar, battery and a ton of those components would be in their right place. I swear it felt like you had to put everything back like it was or else you would notice a fair share of inconveniences.

    I really like the thought that went inside the EM shield plate. Think about it: Add rigidity, shields the important electric components from outside interference and acts as a passive heat sink.
    Sadly it looks meh~, so I removed it in my all clear switch case swap, to see the components.
    Also, am i the only one really disappointed in Nintendo removing the dock mode from the Lite? Or not patching their own games to work without joy con moves (Mario Odyssey)? The docking mode removal is 100% software side, the patch should be an easy thing to do, considering that you could use the touchscreen or a button combo rebind for it. And Bluetooth is still being locked! Cmon.

    what no one seems to inform their audience in every other youtube video is that the screws they used are JIS screws on switch lite (both inside and outside, not sure about regular switch). Philips screwdrivers work with the JIS screws but there is a high chance of stripping down the screws so it's better to have JIS screwdrivers or bits while working on it.

    Good video!
    The fact that Nintendo. Still uses the same parts. Proves? Nintendo loves to just recycle it's parts. Then? Spend more money and time on upgrades/improvements.

    The 'new Nintendo switch' joysticks are the same new design.

    They didn’t fix the problem, I haven’t had my lite for 2 weeks and my left sticks already drifting /:

    When I had the drift issue on the pro controller I kept punching the stick and it actually worked and didn’t drift anymore. I wouldn’t recommend it but it was funny how it works
    Anyway Nice Vid

      Used to "fix" the gamecube that way with a hammer when it started acting crazy. It worked tho so no harm done.

    Hi I have a question. I just got this nintendo switch lite 2 weeks ago and its already playing up :(... Im not sure what its called or where to go to get it fixed but maybe someone here can help?
    When I hold the left joystick to the right my character (in animal crossing) struggles between walking and running. Its like a constant stutter. I can walk and run in any other direction fine but when going to the right my character will just stop, walk, run, walk, sprint, stop, walk... Etc. What is this and where can I go to get this fixed? Will it cost much?

    I had my left joycon stick replaced about 8 months ago by nintendo and the stick they replaced it with is exactly like the one in this switch lite. Same shielding pattern, same blue ribbon cable. Unfortunately it started to drift even faster than the first one. Like 3 months later. It may have something to do with playing movement intensive games - smash bros ultimate was out around the time I had the issues. But if this is really the same as mine, then good luck switch lite owners.

      @@MikehMike01 Unfortunately, it's not 1 data point. If I it was just me, there wouldn't be a class action lawsuit in progress which also involves the switch lite smh.
