For me, Onomichi will forever be remembered as the place we set out on our Shimanami Kaido cycle. But cycle or not, it's a beautiful town - though I've never plucked up the physical courage to climb that hill overlooking the town 😅
There's a ropeway that can take you to the top, above the cat alley. From there it's a lot easier to walk down for those with movement issues. We met Sonoyama-san too. Such a nice man!
For me, it's the place that I wanted to see my first trip to Japan, and we ended up there too late / after dark. I was super disappointed in the timing, but then we found an event at a shrine nearby that was an absolute hidden gem.
@@sharlainjapan I'm so glad his allergy went away so he could bond with Maro and welcome Tuna. When you first got Tuna I didn't think his name was significant, but later on you revealed your relationship with Chris and I went "Aha! " The name made sense because that's his favorite sashimi! I'm glad he's a cat person now. :)
It is always so nice when you are off doing little adventures with Ushka. It is so enjoyable to watch and now you have told us of a nice hotel chain to look into as well. Thanks so much.
I immediately knew this would be Onomichi when I saw the thumbnail. I absolutely LOVE Onomichi. 7 years ago I watched the original Journey Across Japan shimanami kaido episode with you and Chris and vowed to one day do it myself. In 2022 I did and got to explore Onomichi for a day as well and it's such a cozy little town. Love the hillside temples, the views, the ramen... Went back last November with two friend to do the cycle again and both of my friends loved Onomichi as well. Hiroshima prefecture is incredible and one of my favourites in Japan.
Cat Alley looks so quiet and cute. I love the old man caring for the cats! :D I wish I could travel but probably won't ever be able to so I appreciate this video. It's cool to experience everything vicariously. :)
I just love your videos Sharla! I always get happy when I get a notification. You have such an amazing friendship with Ushka, I would love to hear her life story and more about your friendship!
Just wanted to let you know my partner and I cracked a bottle of wine and popped popcorn (literally) when we saw you had a new video out. Thanks for being our favorite youtuber!
Love when I see a new Sharla video pop up! Also love seeing Ushka in videos with you! Got a chance to meet her while staying at nekoneko inn and shes just as kind in person as she seems in the vlogs.
Just back from a three week trip to Japan. Stayed in Tokyo with my son (JET) but also travelled to Hiroshima. We ate in that amazing okonomiyaki building. Four wonderful ladies cooked our food and made us so welcome. Love your video; will put cat alley on the list for future visits. Listen to all those birds in the background! Thanks Sharla and Ushka. ❤
Just wanted to say that your videos have been one of the best parts of my day, especially when i wind down from a busy work day. I love seeing you and Ushka hanging out and just going about your day 💕
This was such a nice town to visit and cat alley was a highlight. A day trip from Hiroshima that is totally worth doing. Thanks for the awesome memories!
That was a fun video. I actually stayed at the ZONK hotel next to Call Coffee in Fukuoka this past winter. It was fun to see the same sights again in your video. Went to Shin Ramen thanks to Chris and Natsuki's recommendation. Fukuoka's ramen is amazing.
Holy crap. Hiroshima is so nostalgic now😂. I miss traveling with you! Something needs to happen soon 👀 Also wtf is that amazing looking sushi breakfast? Hnngghhh!!!
I’m adding Cat Alley to the itinerary for the next trip! We loved Hiroshima and can’t wait to spend more time there and surrounding areas. I tried both types of okonomiyaki (I even got a key chain 😂), but I prefer the Hiroshima version!! 😻😻😻
I literally added Fukuoka to our trip to Japan as a must go place BECAUSE, my favourite ramen place ever around home, called Hakataya Ramen, is Hakata style Ramen. I can't wait. 8 months left!
1:57... that black and white cat is just like mine... same triangle on the head and almost same meow, tiny bit deeper but almost identical... so cute!!
i went to that Okonomiyaki spot when i was in Japan! we just stumbled upon it and didnt regret it!! Love your vids Sharla! gives me such good ideas for my next trip!
Good to see you looking so well Sharla. I had the thyroid thing too so occasional updates in that regard are welcome. I like to hear how other countries deal with the related issues. Your Brazil nut mention earlier was a help. My dr was not helpful, I’m in Ontario. Happy new year!❤
I literally sat down with a Sapporo beer and snacks to watch this as soon as i saw the thumbnail.😁🥰 I was so happy to see a new traveling vlog. ❤❤❤I love those!
Me and my boyfriend stayed at the same hotel as you guys! Mitsui garden hotels are my favourites to book when I'm in Japan! The view and the staff were amazing!😍
5:36 That looks so delicious! Reminds me of the pear soft serve ice cream I ate at Tottori Sakyu- the best soft-serve i've ever eaten. Now I have to go try the orange soft serve ❤ I know you're extraordinarily busy, but thank you for an incredible video, Sharla. My black cat and I enjoyed it so much. I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2025❣😸
What a fabulous vlog. As a fellow cat lover, I enjoyed it very much. I’d love to go to the Hiroshima area and Fukuoka on our next visit. We’ve stayed at Mitsui Garden Hotel in Kanazawa and it was absolutely lovely and a great location. Thank you both xx
Oh, I've been here! Did the hike to the observeration platform at the top and did see loads of cats. Never realised it was actually named Cat Alley! Onomichi is definitely worth a day or 2, even if you don't do the Shimanami Kaido!
So good to see a video from you! This was so lovely, thank you for it. The food looked amazing. ^_^ I hope you and Ushka have many more travels this year together.
I always enjoy your vlogs. If I ever get to Japan for a vacation....I will just pick out the places....that I enjoyed, watching you show us... all the awesome places to see & all the places to shop and eat at. So many places to choose from...and less people in some spots...but, just as interesting to visit. More quaint than the business of all of major cities. :) Thank you for sharing this video with us. A fellow Canadian watching from Edmonton, Alberta. :) The orange/vanilla...I guessed Creamsicle. A Canadian favorite. :) The food always looks "mouth-watering delicious"! Yum!
Here in Finland is Ice, snow and cold winter time. It always warms my heart to see summer kind of weather! Birds are also singing on the background. Very delicious looking okonomiyaki
That building in Hiroshima with all the Okonomiyaki is amazing! I was trying to work out whether you ate at the same stall as we did when we were there in 2023, or whether it was the next stall over. I'm sure each stall is amazing though!
I found out about Onomichi not that long ago so this video really came at the right time. I already added it to my itinerary for next year and it looks great!
My parents and I went on vacation in Hiroshima and loved it so much, we went again the next year. I got a mikan soft serve ice cream when I got to the top of the mountain/hill in Onomichi. It was amazing and the view was spectacular! I stumbled into one of the little artist galleries and bought a handmade cat figurine. The store is called 花ねこ(flower cat). I have it on my kitchen window now. 🥰 Also, one of the shrines in that area has the biggest winding branched Ghibli-esque tree ever! Hiroshima okonomiyaki is naturally much better than Osaka style. 😉 I love your vacation videos. More vacations with Ushka, please!
