well there are two sure fire ways to counter armor lock is plasma grenades. you stick them before they enter the ability, & you will get a kill from the grenades emp effect even when in armor lock. alternatively you can wait a moment for it to expire then throw it when its still active. the lock / grenade will time out at the exact same time.
I don't think its bad. I would say its more useable than hologram. Hologram is the hardest to master and use. it requires alot of thinking. but camo also requires alot of thinking too. You gotta learn how to use it to master it, but once you do its very rewarding.

I play Halo very differently with ac compared to any other ability (or Halo multiplayer) going solo it's great for weeding out annoying players. you kinda have to treat the game like metal gear solid: crouch walking, waiting for enemies to pass by or look elsewhere, and using ac to cut through no mans land areas. once you find a target you can freak them out by popping ac from somewhere safe but close, making them fire and probably waste a grenade or two which will make it easier to tell what you're up against. when you're ready you can pop ac again and line up your shot, then it's just a matter of connecting more than them. bonus points if you stick them instead coordinating with a team it's great for catching enemy players off guard. if you approach a contested area separate from your team and pop ac, you can pull attention away from them while they're gearing to make a move. if you approach a contested area with your team you can use ac to probe it ahead of others. in my opinion, ac works best with teammates once you get used to the jammer it's relatively easy to discern actual players from fake ones (there are only three or four patterns for the jammer to use). this makes players who don't know the patterns much easier to sneak up on, since they have a harder time telling where you are among all the fake blips. when I'm up against players who do know the patterns, I find it can be a lot of fun trying to outwit them with teamwork, positioning and timing naturally, sometimes it's just more fun or practical to go with sprint or maybe jetpack, but I will say there's nothing quite like watching people have miniature breakdowns trying to find you :)
I never used it back then because I was too stupid. But when MCC came to pc I used it all the time for the mainly for just the jam. I would use it to move freely with out giving my actual position if I had a sniper or rocket. And if I had a close range weapon I'd use it to make them slow down and look around just to assassin creed drop on them with a hammer or shotgun.

Evade/Drop Shield are regularly featured in Invasion, both in matchmaking and custom gameplay. I never thought it bad. Useless in campaing, but pretty good in multiplayer. They truly made it useless in Halo 4, because in there using it creates this massive blue blob on the motion tracker telling everyone where you are..
Who tf thinks active camo is bad?? Not only did I see quite a bit of people use it effectively on the 360, but that hologram and armor lock were used the least and are easily the worst. Those two are niched to the point of only having a few use cases, with everyone who aren't complete noobs knowing exactly how to counter them when going against. Hell, holograms are instantly easy to spot, especially if the user's armor isn't default since nobody just walks in a straight line doing nothing, and armor lock literally just slows down your inevitable death with rare exceptions. Hope you know that the reason why armor lock hate still persists to this day is because it's the worst armor ability, since its purpose is just to be annoying.
