I'm running into an issue - hopefully ExtremeRate or a fellow modder could help. When I install the small top plate (between LB and RB), it seems to jam the console/PC pairing button. With the stock top plate, combined with either stock or ExtremeRate LB/RB, I can press the button and feel the click. When the ExtremeRate top plate is installed, the pairing button seems to be jammed in an already-pressed state. It doesn't move, and there's no clicky button feel. I've tried two different ExtremeRate button kits, with the same issue. Has anyone else encountered this or know of a fix?
I'm going to try to take some measurements with a digital caliper to confirm, but I ran some rudimentary tests with a couple of spare pairing buttons and both the stock and modded top plates - I suspect the modded top plate's cutout for the pair button isn't quite wide enough to accommodate the button. As the button seems to be slightly tapered, the undersized cutout pushes the button in just enough to jam the button in a pressed state.
@@failswithtails Hi, we are sorry about the issue. We've got about 5 to 8 feedback about this kind of issue, but we have more than 10 pieces of Elite 2 controllers none of them have this issue with our buttons kit. Just got my new parts from Extream Rate they should be arriving today am nervous too try this but think I can do it .. Just want to ask should I make sure the battery on my elite 2 is dead before attempting can accidentally turning on the controller when it's partially disassembled hurt it in any way ??
I set my hair dryer on high, and I only focused on the lower right thumbstick base. The main reason to remove it is because it can't fit through the octagon cutout of the blue circuit board; the other thumbstick has plenty of space. I heated it up for maybe 20-30 seconds, and then with the magnetic thumbstick cap, I firmly but slowly turned it to unscrew. The heat doesn't kill whatever adhesive is on the threaded connection - it only softens it. I later had to heat up the thumbstick base again when I wanted to screw it back onto the controller.
Removing the joystick bases doesent work, the joystick caps being used to turn (unfasten) the joystick base, feels like its set in concrete it wont budge at all...and yes i tried turning it counterclockwise.
It’s only the elite series controller bumpers that at break for me or give me issues in general. The first edition controller made the bumper’s bar twice as flimsy and curved made of cheap plastic- VERY breakable. then for the series 2 controller they used the same bumpers they used for the standard Xbox controller and the nipple parts STILL break off BECAUSE THEY STILL USE PLASTIC!
We are investigating this issue, thanks for reporting to us. It seems Xbox changed the structure of the bumpers, so we are buying some other Elite 2 controllers to check. When did you buy your controller? And if is possible to make a video to show the problem and upload it to your channel? It will help us to know more details! Thank you so much!

How do I remove the thumb stick cover? I keep twisting and it just keeps turning and doesn’t come off, I even tried prying it up and twisting at the same time
Microsoft puts glue to the base of the thumbsticks now, some of them glued tight some of them not, yours must be the tight one. Please try to heat up the base a bit by using the hair dryer, and then start to twist it. But please remember to do it carefully, don't use too much force and too much heat.
@@ExtremeRate oh yeah I just fixed it I have another question when I put it in the bottom shell and put the screws in I can’t press on the triggers it’s like stuck in place
I have an Elite Series 2, but my bumper button configuration is different from the one shown. My bumper has a central plate that pops off, but the bumpers remain firmly attached to the controller, and I can't see how to remove them. I tried to remove the boards with it (them) still in place, but it's impossible. Any suggestions?
Hi Kenneth - if you're still working on this - I ran into the same issue and the video I link shows how to remove the bumpers at about 9:40 th-cam.com/video/XEH9Va5nkxQ/w-d-xo.html
I just disassembled with this video to answer this question, as I have the same problem. The bumper plastics depress a little white button on each side. Once the bumpers are removed you can use something long and skinny to test the those buttons out. In my case the RB button itself is super desensitized compared to LB, so replacing the plastics won't help one iota.
Holding with clips but there is a double-side sticker foam under the front shell. So before taking apart the front shell, we suggest you heat up the front shell with a hair dryer.
It must be nice to have everynscrew loose and the joysticks loose also. Just fucked up my right joystick trying to take it off. It is nowhere near as easy ass they make it look.
Sadly one of the bumper broke some little piece on the side that holds LB in place and for some reason non of my bumpers work. It just says its being held down 😔
I used this video to replace the buttons on my elite series 2 controller. The guide was great and easy to follow and the entire installation went well. However, when I played a game afterwards, the D-pad up button wouldn't register at all anymore. I did some quick research for fixes and tried removing the spring and "bending" the spring ends out a bit further to hopefully provide better contact. That didn't work and after a bit more testing I realized that even removing the D-pad and pressing on the membrane actuator itself wouldn't ever register. Do you think the membrane needs to be replaced, something else, or are you not familiar enough with these controllers to have an educated guess on the issue?
@MasterZen I don't know what the technical name for it is, but the Elite Series 2 controller has the sticky pad with the attached 4 metal "domes" that click when pressed in and actuate the buttons. I believe all xbox controllers (as far as I can tell) have this same method for actuating the d-pad buttons.
@MasterZen Right. I mean I've taken the controller apart several times so I know how the stuff works. I just don't know the proper names for everything. The ABXY has the gray rubber membrane. The D-pad has the metallic domes (which I guess would be mechanical). I was referencing the sticker pad that houses the metallic domes as a membrane, although I see now that's not technically what it is.

I had an issue with the RB too and after trying several things i found by pushing the tactile switch slightly away from the bumper probe it sorted it for me. Its like it wasn't fully releasing before registering another press
The replacement buttons will not fix the controller hardware problem. If the A and B buttons unresponsive, then may possibly the conductive rubber problem, if not, then it's the controller mainboard issue.

@@ExtremeRate they are a very common problem. I believe it is simply the poor design of the conductive "bridges" that the pads press down onto. I returned 3 elite series 2 controllers right back to walmart. Then I have sent it in the mail to microsoft and gotten 3 replacements so far that have all had the same "A" button problem. A side note: about half the controllers I have received as replacements also had stick drift on the left stick.

Nevermind got it to work. Video very misleading nowhere as easy as they make it look don't attempt this unless you're very confident in your skills or can afford a new controller if anything goes wrong
Microsoft was absolutely despicable in their engineering of these Series 2 controllers. The face A and B buttons fail SO often. They must be pressed perfectly, or they don't register a press. If you watch the fix (simply adding some electrical tape under the button), you cannot tell me Microsoft couldn't have just manufactured face buttons with a couple more micrometers of tolerance...They knew and left it. The bumper switches fail all the time. Even if you BABY your $180 controller, you will start getting double clicks and then complete failure in 6 months. They knew these new switches were not as good as the elite s1 switches, but did it anyway. The little cushion under the trigger stops falls to the side, leaving a STICKY trigger. It is enraging and unplayable when you have this happen. They KNEW this square would fail easily. You can fix this by simply regluing the square in the proper position. Any cyano acryllate will hold this square forever. They could have done this. This is complete bull for an "elite" controller costing over $200 with warranty. They knew every single flaw and left them to make warranty money from nonstop exchanges. Then, they go and make this thing impossible to open and service. Scuf has a magnetic faceplate that comes right off...It's just despicable.

That plastic piece to pry the controller open sucks. Just kept bending
Waiting for this to come, hopefully I don’t mess it up. I’ve got a broken elite so I’ll practice on that as a few of the buttons don’t work
Good luck!

is there a place we can get professionals to change the cosmetics on our elite controllers?
The tabs on the sides of my bumpers are now broken and my cotnroller is useless. Thanks a lot for not mentioning them at all in your installation.
I had the same fear when mine were not coming off easy. Im leaving this comment here for anyone else following this guide....There are 2 tabs on the outside edge of each bumper holding in place. The bumpers on my controller won't come off as easily as they did in this video, any ideas on how to get it off?
There are tabs on the outside ends of each bumper button, they can be tricky to unhook. They must have been broken off or missing in the video.

So I suspect there is a small batch of Elite 2 controllers with a slightly different structure of the shell and buttons, which caused this issue. I can’t get these thumb sticks base off and I’ve tried using my hair dryer Could someone help me??
I set my hair dryer on high, and I only focused on the lower right thumbstick base. The main reason to remove it is because it can't fit through the octagon cutout of the blue circuit board; the other thumbstick has plenty of space. I heated it up for maybe 20-30 seconds, and then with the magnetic thumbstick cap, I firmly but slowly turned it to unscrew. The heat doesn't kill whatever adhesive is on the threaded connection - it only softens it. I later had to heat up the thumbstick base again when I wanted to screw it back onto the controller.
Joysticks won't unscrew. Keeps popping off before I can twist and I already have it taken apart I don't wanna put acessive force on it. Help?
Do u know why after I apply this my bumpers won’t click??? Any help will be amazing
Both of my bumpers are rubbing against my the triggers, clearly a sizing issue causing it to not respond correctly?

Too bad you can melt the plastic around the controller before those buttons come lose, if they ever do. Try vice grips/pliers and the old button you will use.

right i haven’t even touched faceplate and im tryna get the bullet buttons but this seems sketchy asf

Hi Kenneth - if you're still working on this - I ran into the same issue and the video I link shows how to remove the bumpers at about 9:40
th-cam.com/video/XEH9Va5nkxQ/w-d-xo.html
You have to leave the joystick on and turn them counter clockwise , first time unscrewing them will need a bit of force but they will untwist

Ive been having issues with my elite 2s right bumper not responding very well unless pushed really hard. Would these help?
I just disassembled with this video to answer this question, as I have the same problem. The bumper plastics depress a little white button on each side. Once the bumpers are removed you can use something long and skinny to test the those buttons out. In my case the RB button itself is super desensitized compared to LB, so replacing the plastics won't help one iota.
After installation it seems like my triggers force my bumper buttons to stick and they release when I press RT and LT
Please refer to this vid th-cam.com/video/ZOMHZQOA-d8/w-d-xo.html
Is the front shell only holding with clips or is it also glue?
Holding with clips but there is a double-side sticker foam under the front shell. So before taking apart the front shell, we suggest you heat up the front shell with a hair dryer.

Heat up the base of the thumbstick a bit by hairdryer before you twist them. Microsoft puts glue inside the thumbsticks...

Will this fix my right bumper issue? Because for some reason I have to push down with the force of God's to make the bumper do somthing if it doesn't any suggestions on getting that fixed?
You have to make sure if the problem is from the tactile switch of the RB, if so, then replace the buttons will not make any different
I had an issue with the RB too and after trying several things i found by pushing the tactile switch slightly away from the bumper probe it sorted it for me. Its like it wasn't fully releasing before registering another press
@@steamydog That must the thing!
Will it fix unresponsive a and b button?
The replacement buttons will not fix the controller hardware problem. If the A and B buttons unresponsive, then may possibly the conductive rubber problem, if not, then it's the controller mainboard issue.
@@ExtremeRate Can u please take a look on this video? th-cam.com/video/aS9_t1FZh3A/w-d-xo.html This guys fix his unresponsive button by just cleaning that rubber part. So if i dont need these parts like u saying then maybe this method which he did will help. Thank you very much for your time.

@@altdelete47 No, we don't have that, are they a common problem of the Elite 2? Ours still works fine (not heavy use)

Having trouble reconnecting the two little wires
5:59 is there no tips or tricks? It absolutley makes no sense how easy its done in the video, in reality "TURNING" the joystick base off with the magnetig thumbs is "impossibly hard". What is going on ? Im on a second controller and its the same issue. The joystickbase feels as if its glued on.
I’ll take a elite 2 if it has plastic joysticks
