5 years later and still helping people out, that's what its all about! Ordered on of these for my old ford truck, hoping for good results. This video should help a ton.
I think you solved my problem ! my idle is way up and my choke is closed, it was blackening my plugs in a couple minutes. I'll find out in a couple days. your channel is awesome THANKS!!!!!!! subscribed
My 289 with the same Holley on it left me stranded on the side of the road twice. Couldn't keep fuel in the bowls. After several hours I finally found that the rubber plug on the ported vacuum at 7:45 had disintegrated. Used a drinking straw to get home.
I hooked my vacuum advance to full vacuum at idle and the engine fell on its face when i stepped on the gas off idle.Had to put it on ported vacuum to get it to run right.
holley site recomends the ported vaccum on the passenger side of the carb for the distributor!you highly recomend the intake vacuum in the front bottom for the distributor!now which one is the best????
We eventually moved to the ported vacuum on the side of the carb as per Holley's instructions. We were going off of Ford's info for the vacuum advance. After moving to the ported vacuum it ran much better.
Nice Wagon. I just love the video. I have a 1972 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 400 engine. I'd like to have a pair of headers on it. Do you have any idea who may have a Header for my application?
+Mauro Pietro Not right off hand. We will say that we are running the manifolds on the 351 and are quite happy. Not sure we'd want to the trade-ff of the day to day hassle of headers for the little bit of power you'd see on a 400. 2.25 dual exhaust with a cross over would probably serve you way better.
Jeff excellent how to vid. Glad I subscribed. You guys are at the top of my list considering all the choices available on you tube. Enjoy all your presentations, they are very well done. Clear, concise and articulate. Maybe you can help me? I currently switched from a Holley 600cfm w/electric choke to a Quick Fuel 600cfm w/electric choke. Any advice or vids on set up and performance out of the box? Application: 1970 F100 SB 351W C6 Aftermarket Comp cam 518/518 Lift with headers. Keep up the great work. Thanks in advance!!!
+deanda5150 We have not had the chance to play with a Quick Fuel, but all the recommendations would apply we feel sure. The carb seems to be an off-shoot of the Holley.
Ported vacuum... My understanding is it is only used on some vacuum advance designs, depending on distributor model. Most will never use it. If you need it, you REALLY need it and wont get timing curve to behave well otherwise. The larger port on that base? Handy for modulator on a transmission where the manifold does not have it's own port to hook up.
In my exsperiance The ported vacuum on the side of the carb is the correct place to hook up the distributor and not the base plate. If you hook up a vacuum guage. You will see the base plate has less vacuum at higher revs and will not advance the timing.
Ram Skirata Luckily it was at low speed. The manufacturer was quick to help with parts, offers to repair the car etc. and very apologetic. We felt pretty good about the outcome all in all.
Ram Skirata Yes. Parts came in within a week and look to be from a different source, the company said that from the photos, it looks like the metal was not up to spec. They have contacted the supplier who did the hub that broke. All is well.
just curious of your engine combo seems to haul ass pretty good..i got a 90 454ss ive just got together with a out the box 850 holly on it im still debugging
I have a holley 650 double pumper with electric choke and mechanical secondaries. You discuss the ported vacuum port and how it's not necessarily for the vacuum advance for this carburetor. My carb has the power vac port for the brakes in the back and a PCV & Full Vacuum port on the middle of the primary left side, and I also have two vacuum ports below the primary bowl. Should my disty vacuum advance go to the port on the front of this carburetors base plate and not the PVC and full vacuum port which is on left mid front of my carb?
So here's the cool thing... I put my Holley 600 CFM with vacuum secondaries back on because I wasn't liking the newer 650. I did move the disty vacuum advance to the manifold and I was surprised how well it was running. A much smoother idle and better acceleration than the last time it was on. This was a new carb that I purchased recently too. So I then decided to see if this would work for the 650 cfm. I put it on today and used the same manifold vacuum port and the curb idle was @ 1100 with the screw backed all the way off. I then moved the advance back to the port on the primary and I was able to drop the curb idle down. It seems like it's not getting the timing advance when I'm taking off from a stop. There's a slight hesitation at first but then it wants to come alive and dare you to crack open the secondaries. I have two new carbs now that were purchased direct from Holley. The 600 works great and the 650 has me on youtube looking for answers and working with Holley tech support. Thank you for your youtube post.@@AutoRestoMod
trying to figure out jetting, 1967 Pontiac 4 speed HO , stock motor. Running a 670 Holley Street Avenger and moving jets between 65-70 size, what would be a good jet size for this motor, in your opinion
Honestly it's all in the plug read. If it's a 400 HO then I would say that the 70 jets are a starting point and move up from there.. But it's really going to depend on what the plugs read.
The two ports that are right together are both manifold vacuum but the larger port is too large for vacuum advance hose. I THINK it is for things like power brakes...but I'm not totally sure.
Chris I have a 1850 600 holley and its dumping fuel all over the manifold, even when its not running and i hit the linkage it pours out all sides....any suggestions?
lol . The manifold vacuum vs Ported vacuum for the distributor timing advance debate should be explained in detail so as to not confuse the inexperienced . I mean common guys its really very simple and logical .
No...it isn't. I have seen tons written about this very topic. Kinda like motor oils. Opinions are rife. But I will look into it and possibly do a video trying to explain it.
Hey, I have a 1984 5.0 Windsor motor I'm trying to find the best carburetor for my car I bought a Holley 600 series which requires a lot of after market adjustment so my question to you would be what is the best carburetor to fit my stock intake manifold.?? Thanks for reading.
Back the screw off, it should only effect idle when the choke is in operation. I've had Holleys that the red cam doesn't retract well. check operation on that and use some Gibbs oil or other light parts oil on it.
Basics, yes. Carburetor inlet set up is different on the 4160 as it feeds from the drivers side. We recommend a banjo fitting to get the line to lay nice.
None needed. we used to put a thin coat of grease on the bowl gaskets to make them easier to remove. But the new "blue" gaskets are way better about removal.

Keen to see a tune video on the 670 street avenger carby. As I have one on my 302 Cleveland xc falcon.
I'm pretty sure we did one on the 69 Fairlane wagon, just look for Autorestomod Holley tune.
Well done. Exactly what I sis when I put my 600cfm 4150 on my SBC.
Please show how to tune a vaccuum secondaries Holley!
Thanks guys, great video! I would love to see some more involved tuning. Keep up the good work.

I will try both. sometimes ported works better, sometimes manifold.
Could that huge vac fitting be used for the power booster?
Great video! One question, how did you fix the fuel leaking problem from the fuel lines going into the carburetor?

Seen this asked everywhere but nobody has a definitive answer. What do you wire the electric choke into?
Wire it into a twelve volt switched. That is the wire is hot only when the car is "run".
This is a great video!!
Where can I find the video to tune it, to adjust floats?
th-cam.com/video/_Y5yXikrHLg/w-d-xo.html is the video on that. Thanks for your kind words!

I'd try the manifold vacuum first. If that is not giving you what you need go ported. But exhaust all your options on the manifold vacuum first.

Thanks!
Good video.
Good info
now I see you adjusted the front of the carb when you removed that little copper screw but you didn't do the back screw that's identical why not?
You should check both floats.
14:32 ".15 inch gap"? that big? do you mean .015?

Hey I am curious what type of breather you have for the pcv coming out of the valve cover? thanks
We use the stock PCV valve and grommet for the Cleveland. The hose is a factory type that attaches to the inlet provided with the air cleaner.
So where do you hook up your power brake booster vacuum hose?
Depends on the carburetor. Most Holleys have a port either on the back under the float bowls, or on the passenger side rear of the main plate.
It’s a holly 750 classic
Отличный обзор. Все просто и доступно объяснили.+
What vacuum port would the line for modulator valve on a TH350 hook to?
There should be a vacuum tree on the back of the antique manifold somewhere. That's the port for the modulator.
Isn't the bigger vacuum port for the EGR valve hose?
There is a larger one for EGR on the back of the Holley base plate. On the front passenger (right) side is a port for vacuum.
Thanks for that, it's just that the person in the video says he doesn't know what the large port is for. Hence my question.
The two ports that are right together are both manifold vacuum but the larger port is too large for vacuum advance hose. I THINK it is for things like power brakes...but I'm not totally sure.

Not sure what you mean by aftermarket adjustments. Most carbs will require tuning to run optimally. Also, is the intake a 2 barrel or 4?
learned a lot. thanks!
I know its frustrating always asking for comments and then there are only a couple of comments. have that problem with my channel as well.^^
My fast idle screw is hitting on the red choke cam and making the throttle stay open??
Back the screw off, it should only effect idle when the choke is in operation. I've had Holleys that the red cam doesn't retract well. check operation on that and use some Gibbs oil or other light parts oil on it.

Think I'll stick with Edelbrock. What a pain, every adjustment is on a different side or corner.
To each his own. I like both for different reasons. I grew up working on Holleys.
@ 16:54 "You'll Get Leaks Off Of These Nuts"...😭
It's true!
Holley's website says 7psi max. If your running 8psi... they clearly tell you that is too much.

Do not set initial timing with vacuum advance hooked up. Just saying
Holley is a pain
I think it is like Ford vs. Chevy, it i all in what you are used to. I like my Holleys but I can see validity in other carbs as well.
