    Growing up I saw this train tracks being built and my young self really didn’t understand how it would work as it looked so futuristic in those days. It really looked promising but It eventually was left to rust for several years until it got demolished. Hope someday they built a proper train system so we use less cars and more trains that are eco friendly

    I remember this Sky bus line very well. Every time I passed through Madgaon(As I studied in Karnataka, I traveled frequently to Goa) I used to wonder why such a futuristic project is left abandoned. Didn't know tracks are now demolished completely. It is sad to know.

    In a country like India where we have more populations, we don't need such fragile transport system. Metro, EMU, Trams are good alternative.

      not going to happen. There have been several skybus/monorail projects in the world and not one can be considered a good. Especially the ones that have been constructed in developing countries are massive failures.
      There is a good video on why monorail sucks by a TH-camr called "adam something"

    Thanks for this Amazing video!! I live in madgaon and i have seen this project being built from scratch and being demolished to dust. This project was introduced when i was a small kid and there was so much hype everywhere in goa about this!! If the test would have been successfull this sky bus was planned to connect various cities of goa. And also as far as i know before the sky bus hit the pillar it had cleared two successfull phases of testing. So sad to see such a beautiful project being demolished.

    Suspended metro railway is said to unsafe if it carries more than its permitted capacity.... indian cities being overcrowded and passengers not willing to adhere to the rules and restrictions, suspended metro railway is good only as a joyride in some places in our country... Light railways or tram are better alternative to this and a cheaper alternative to the metro railways.... Monorails are good option too but will the public of Kolkata adhere to the boarding capacity rules??

    Skybus Metro is based on the SAFEGE Suspended monorail design that has been implemented in two separate systems in Japan. The Wuppertal Schwebebahn was the first successful Suspended Monorail, however it suffers from the flaw of having the steel wheels only on one rail. This is bad because it is a less safe then the modern designs. The Chiba Urban Monorail and Shonan Monorail in Japan are the best examples of this concept! There are also two smaller examples of the modern suspended monorail design, both located in Germany under the name H-Bahn. They are located in Dusseldorf and Dortmund.

    I remembered that once I went to Goa in 2008, from Mumbai to Madgaon, by train, i saw this before entering into the Madgaon rly stn. First i thought that it is just an underconstruction flyover but later I saw a train like coach is hanging at the end of this hanging tracks, then I came to realise that its a skybus railway system quite similar to monoral. Some local authorities of that area told it is not used for passengers its only a model.

    These suspended trains do not take less money to operate or maintain; firstly a suspended train has more moving parts then the average train increasing maintenance. secondly, the structure upkeep of the overhead track and support beams. Lastly, running these types of trains have little cost-benefit to a standard train when taking into energy, stuff and building costs.

    Indeed it was Indias dream that was broken. As a child when we used to go to margão to shop every weekend I would be so excited to see that Blue coaches even tho my dad had explained to me that it had failed. I was 12-13 years old yet there was a glimmer of hope that it would come into existence some day. But I was really heart broken when they finally demolished the test track somewhere around 2017. Even my dream of riding the sky bus was broken that day too..

      No , do not , as it is most unsafe for passengers as there is no emergency escape in case of fire or terror attack. Also the technology is more expensive and maintenance is difficult. A flaw in the track means derailment in normal tracks, but in suspended tracks, the coach will fall and people will get hurt and die, and there might be cars and people underneath too.
      Not good idea, so most cities reject it. But it seems indians have little logical abilities left to get it, after the amount of religion they follow.

So many years passed and I frgot abt it and today after watching video I got to knw abt the failure of the project. I really don't understand why they dismantled the tracks . Not a bad video but could have been better. Plenty of “futuristic” transport have come to naught - supersonic passenger aircraft, high speed tracked air cushion vehicles, gas turbine railway locomotives, high speed maglev - so why should Skyway have succeeded?
    There are suspended monorail designs in operation that don’t need such a massive (& ugly) overhead structure.
    Also Skyway just used conventional rail technology within that huge box for no real advantage over a conventional railway which is used successfully all over the globe.

    I believe Pros and Cons were not evaluated properly in the design phase. Project was approved in haste, after an accident resulting in an Engineer's death it was scrapped. Waste of public money and it could have been utilized for better road transport...... Overground metro would have been a great solution than Skybus from Margao station until Panaji or Mapusa. I lived for 3 years near Margao and I used to struggle traveling to Panaji. Road transport was pretty dodgy in Goa when compared to nearby states during that period. Not sure how is it now.

    • @preeteshnaik5013
      @preeteshnaik5013 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that details are not completely given in the article. But the project was in experimental stage. Some failures will always occur at this stage.An experiment is successful only after trial and error. Regarding emergency exit something could have designed. The article shows some provision though sufficiently not explained. It is then when we highlight the problem , a solution could be found. As the test structure was present along with the redesigned skybuses , the trials should have started instead of just demolishing the structure this addressing all the concerns like emergency exit, swing levels, maintenance of tracks etc. Scrapping of project because of one failure is very nad . Imagine if such a case occurs in space research projects than we would not have been witnessing this great success of our scientists.When I was a kid i was happy that I was going to witness new mode of transport.but it was heartbreaking to see the structure getting demolished during my college days. I am not saying that the life of the person which was lost is not valuable. Lives are very important. Less Land is one advantage along with one like it can't be detailed and hence toppling could be avoided.

    • @rational0
      @rational0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cool guy
      I agree we must be open minded and do experiments. But experiments are for R&D , not for implementation and use by public. Imagine what will happen if there are many accidents and then all the public will scream who and why passed such unreliable tech etc etc.
      Also , i think even Hyperloop tech is more feasible (which is in experimental stage). Such suspended rail systems have been used (rarely) where other systems were not possible like very congested areas or hilly towns. But mostly the rope way is cheaper and more suitable in strong gusty winds and snowy conditions. They are much cheaper and easy to maintain. And with modern TBM technology getting cheaper, Underground metro is more feasible where overground is not possible.
      I also do not have details why Goa Skybus was scrapped just that there was an accident.
