      Many artists use photos like these (called "reference photos") to help them while drawing. Some artists choose to use their reference photos in a very technical way, and try to replicate every detail in it exactly. Other artists, like the one in this video, use reference photos in a "looser" way; still paying attention to the main elements in the photo but drawing it in their own style of art. Hope this helped :)

      @TotallyNotNeya Chill there. Now, even if I couldn't draw this (but I can), that doesn't change my opinion, it doesn't look like what's he drawing. I never said it looks bad but if you're drawing something you generally want your drawing and the thing to look alike. Now then, don't go assuming that I can't do things without even knowing me, I started doing art when I was 10 (I'm now 19) and over the years I've been focusing specifically on graphite drawing to the point I can draw hyper realistic things (if I have enough time). I've won several national-level competitions for art and poetry, too. Now, I do not draw often, but I am certain that I can sketch a person's face far more accurately with a charcoal, even though I prefer pencils. If you don't believe me, I'd be more than happy to show you my most recent drawing because I need some criticism on it as my parents are definitely not very objective, they like practically anything that I draw. That aside, drawing is just a hobby to me, so perhaps I did not spend as much time perfecting it, but it comes naturally to me, and I much prefer dedicating myself in the field of computer science, it has been my true passion and I've been studying it even before I started doing art.

    • @Vortex-qb2se
      @Vortex-qb2se 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TotallyNotNeya Chill. For starters, even if I couldn't do it (but I can), that doesn't change my opinion that the picture and what he drew don't look alike. I'm not saying that it's bad, but if I remember correctly, the comment section was overreacting, so I said this. Now then, about my art skills, not to flatter myself or anything, but I've been drawing since I was 10 specializing mainly in graphite drawings and I've won several national competitions, so as a matter of fact, I can draw this with a charcoal even though I prefer pencils. Now, maybe you're right, I probably did not spend as much time as him practicing, drawing always came naturally to me and I draw once in a blue moon but when I do draw I manage to make things nearly hyper realistic but it takes a ton of time, hence why I hate drawing even though I'm good at it. If you don't believe me I'd be more than happy to show you what I've been drawing recently because my parents are not good enough at criticising my artworks, they like anything that I draw. Either way, my true passion is computer science, so frankly, I don't feel like wasting time making videos to flex my nearly useless skill, but I can show you pictures of what I'm drawing just because you're so certain that I can't draw even though you don't even know me.

    I WISH I HAD YOUR ABILITY TO DRAW PROPORTIONS SO IN PLACE AND TO PROPER SIZEMORE!
    m sure the answer to being able to do do is to practice, though I'd love to know exactly what should bepracticed if anyone's got any tips!
    Again beautiful work. I quit drawing for a few years and I wish i never did, life happens though - I can't wait to get back into the feeling of creating something I love!

    how in the world do you keep the charcoal on the page and not just smudged onto every page as soon as you close the sketchbook? I know a fixative can be used on every page, but it doesn't seem as though you are using a fixative. Whenever I used charcoal in a sketchbook, it just becomes a total mess and most of the form on the page is lost.

    Nice portrait. But you definitely need these clip thingies, that hold your paper from flipping while you sketch. You know which ones I mean?

    Incredibly talented but doesn’t look entirely like the photo. I’m just saying it’s pretty vague of a drawing. Don’t hate on me. I do portraits for a living lol. I don’t use charcoal though. I use graphite. Primarily 9b for deep rich blacks

    I’m going to be a ruthless art critic for a minute, and you haven’t arrived until you’ve been torn to shreds by an art critic.
    So… C’mon, no offense but somewhere in between of making a charcoal mess you stop goofing around and put in a couple eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
    What you’re doing is called “flourishing”.
    Would it make a difference if you made the charcoal mess first then then drew the essentials?
    How about if you scratched in the eyes, nose, & mouth then ran the charcoal all over the place before signing this “piece”…, well this “piece”?
    I’m not sure the answers to either question. I just wanna know why it looks more like Marlon Brando than the “reference”.
    You’re welcome.
    You’ve arrived.
