    Ideally since you are using prawns already, you could fry the prawn heads at the beginning in oil and remove it at the end once the stock has developed. There is so much flavour in the prawn heads. It's how we Singaporeans do it in a traditional laksa

      I think the frozen prawns Marion was using were already pealed without a head. Marion is a great cook but in this video she was showing us a quick version of a laksa. :)

    Jumping back in to report: I made it. We ate it. Verdict: wonderful and not a hint of cheat/hack/hurry. The dumplings were probably overkill for us, but we always have homemade dumplings in the freezer, so why not. They were tasty. We’ll be having this again soon.. . . . Oh, that broth!!!

    The leaf is known as Kesom in Malaysia. There are several types of Laksa here but I like Northern Laksa the most. It is sour, tangy and light. I personally can control the spiciness through the chilli condiment by adding, or not.

    Wow Marion you never seize to amaze me… yum …. I have all of that too, always my pantry. Making that next 😋😋
    being a chef 25 years and live for cooking and eating, you have taught me so much that I thought I couldn’t learn and take shortcuts and still taste friggin amazing lol…. You have inspired me so much for years.
    I got injured a few years back and cannot work again sadly but, found my mojo and have been writing my own recipes.
    I never had strength and was too scared to do anything about it, but you have woken up my passion for food, passion for eating and the confidence to something with my skills in another way.

    I’m Singaporean and have frequent cravings for laksa. I almost always make a quick laksa like noodle soup by cheating with green/red curry and/or tom yum paste than from scratch as it’s hard to find some of the ingredients. The base ingredients are quite similar across and can be tweaked to make it sweeter/spicier/sour/salty depending on the flavor profile you are going for.
    I accidentally make a laksa too thick that it became more like laksa-pasta and my husband loves it

      @@Marionskitchen No you can’t. Soy milk is hardly a substitute for it - taste profile is vastly different and it is not lemak (fatty-creamy) at all. There’s really no good sub for coconut milk, the most you reduce the amount and add full cream milk.

      @TlanImass 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I figure you just use diabetic friendly noodles and use something like Truvia instead of real sugar. I might try that but it'll affect how much insulin I use. It's sometimes scary not using insulin if you're unsure.

    • @LemLTay
      @LemLTay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I often look for sugar and replace it with non-cal sweetener, any in the laksa paste is usually not so significant. With the noodles, shirataki or mung bean starch noodles respectively have zero carbs and the latter is low GI. Lots of veggies also helps to bulk out the dish, plenty of beansprouts, shredded cucumber and herbs only makes it extra nice. Other than laksa leaves (vietnamese mint), regular mint is also used here in Malaysia sometimes. With the protein, maybe not the dumplings as those have extra flour in the wrapping, so I'd substitute with lean chicken, prawns, sliced firm tofu, or tofu puffs (best treat in laksa!).
