    Yes, there is a frost build up, but what caused it? You need to figure out what caused the build up so it doesn't reoccur. Was the door left open, allowing warm air to mix with cold air, forming condensation, then frost? Is there an automatic defrost failure? ( circuit board, defrost heater, bi-metal, or thermistor)

    Thanks for the video. I tried using the hair dryer on the top door vent like I've seen in other videos and that did work one time for me about 3-4 years ago. This time it wasn't working so I had to pull the lower drawers out and I pulled the white plastic molding from the back. I didn't disconnect any of the 4-5 bundled wire groups that were attached to the back, but I was able to pull it out of the way enough that I could blow the hair dryer back behind the plastic. I worked the left square a lot as the middle fan already was working which I could see spinning when I blew air that direction. After about 10 minutes of this and feeling the plastic was warm to the touch, I put the panel back in (it just snaps in place after you put the two bottom tabs in and then push the top and sides until it's flush). I had already turned the breaker off to the fridge so I flipped it back on and opened the top door and pushed the door sensor back in. Air was blowing out of the vent that goes to the ice maker so the fan was working at this point. I've had it running for several hours now and the error code has not come back.

    good advice, but i can fix this in one hour. Those two louvered holes that blow the air from the refrigerator to the ice maker...I stick a small fan up against the opening, and blow room temperature air into the upper one (refrigerator AC power turned off, door to fridge open) for one hour. That is enough heat to melt the ice build up on the fan, and it start to spin freely again.

    Thank you for your video. It appears ours is fixed as well.. at least the error has not shown in a day, so I am hopeful. Good thing we have currently freezing temperatures in Iowa so none of the food was wasted.

    Instead of defrosting the whole freezer, all I did was remove the baskets from the freezer and used a hair dryer to melt the ice in the fan. Just blow into the vents of the fan. After maybe 5-10 minutes of warming it up, I put the baskets back in and the control panel reset

    Had the same issue with $3000 LG French door...All I did was unplug it for 2 days and BAM I have ice now. I also replaced the fan behind the air filter as it was making a loud noise and that took care of that issue...it's been 3 days and my fridge is producing lots of ice, happy, after watching many videos and seeing people replace their ice maker I decided to unplug it and BAM.....I will update 2 months later .....

    This worked for us. Thank you. We had a juice can that was not allowing the freezer door to close all the way which caused it to freeze up.

    I’d like to add that when using a blow dryer to defrost it, use low heat and don’t stay in one spot. The liners are very thin and melt quick. A damaged liner can be a serious problem.

    If the refrigerator has that error code does that mean the refrigerator and freezer not cooling or just that the ice maker isn't working?

    My Dad has a very similar LG refrigerator. Always has an issue with the ice thawing a bit if you don't use it for awhile and then you can't use the ice maker because it's one big chunk. Started getting this error message recently after owning it for about four years or so.
    Do you know if the refrigerator and freezer will still cool, or does the error disable the compressor?

    • @KentDiego
      @KentDiego  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure it only for the cold are running to ice maker.

    • @Guillotines_For_Globalists
      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kent Diego That's good. But it totally blocks out all of the functions of the refrigerator, like the water dispenser, and the temperature displays for refrigerator and freezer too! And the only way to "clear" the code is to unplug the refrigerator for a bit. No easy way to clear these codes unless it means pulling the unit forward to access the plug on the wall.

    • @MikeFink0
      @MikeFink0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I switched mine off at the breaker panel for ~30 seconds to clear the error code since I couldn't get to the plug. There's also a physical on/off switch on the ice maker to turn it off so it doesn't try to run and re-trigger the error code. This way at least the water will function until you get it fixed.

    This only a temp fix if you have to defrost your unit. Either a defrost problem, or on some models lg has a new ice fan with better insulation. Stay away from LG!

    Thanks so much for this video. These fridges are pieces of JUNK- it has broken three times causing us to lose all our food and the ice maker never works. I wish I still had my cheap Fridgidaire- we bought it in the 80s and JUST RECENTLY replaced it with this piece of junk LG. It lasted like 20 years only needing repaired a few times. What is up with all this junk they sell for thousands of dollars now??????

    • @debbystoner3384
      @debbystoner3384 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same with ours. Biggest piece of junk we've ever had. Ice maker worked about 6 months. We never repaired it because of the expense so we've been without automatic ice since. Had to replace a major part to the tune of $450. Now getting this error code F-1. Time to just junk this piece of garbage!

  • @shebatazz

    There is a fix from LG.. The issue here is ice forming in the freezer ice maker fan. If you were to remove the interior back wall in the freezer you will see 2 fans. the one on the far left is the freezer fan. the one in the middle is the evaporator fan. FOr many of the kenmores and LGs there is a replacement back wall that comes with a new icemaker fan. The new icemaker fan has an additional heater wrapped around it to prevent the ice from accumulating in the icemaker fan. This does not apply to all models but many. Defrosting the ice in the fan will fix the issue though only for a time. It will come back. Its a slow accumulation.

    I had the same message, but instead just took out the lower drawer in the freezer, took my hairdryer and blew it into the left side vent on the back wall of the freezer...I could hear the ice popping and melting off the fan. Plugged the fridge back on, and voila! Back in business..

    • @caymandiver75
      @caymandiver75 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is what I do and it usually gets me by for about 9 months or so until it happens again. Sucks, but i'm not about to buy a new fridge over the easy maintenance fix. Only thing I do different that what you described is I don't actually remove the lower main drawer, but I do remove the internal sliding drawer which just slides out by lifting up and then using a hair dryer for about 5-10 minutes in all the vents. Wipe the water up afterwards, reassemble and good to go.

      GE doesnt make appliances anymore... electrolux leases thier name brand to rebrand thier stuff and sell as GE now...guess what.... You can buy this same fridge with the same cheap components and faults as this LG only with the GE logo on it... elextrolux makes most of the appliances these days and just rebrands and sells at different pricepoints to folks who believe they are buying something from a particular manufacturer.

    mmmmmm ! I don`t know about the defrost part , what would you defrost ? the freezer ? ---- I have this model , with the same code , { now let me say this , I cleaned the floor area under the refig , early spring ... } now I had this I F code today , so I opened up the lower back compartment area behind the unit ... { the one that says do not open unless you are a technician , } o.k. now I see the fan that is next too the coils , and I do notice , that the brown coils are suppose to be black , { ahhhhhhhhh man this thing really sucks in dust , it is a vacuum from hades } so what I did next --------> unplug the fridge , { mainly not to get a shock } get a vacuum cleaner with a flex hose and slim attachment , clean those coils , do not force the attachment too rough , you might break the assembly , just get the dust bunnies and their cousins out ! clean as best as you can even under the bottom pan area , next too coil pack , any dust get it outta there ! { any way that is what I did , and plugged unit back in , took about 20 minutes for cleaning , fridge is back to normal operation } and I double checked the read out , at 20 minutes later and still good ! so I suspect a lot of us with this unit might just have a clog in the air flow too the fan , and a sensor is getting a low air flow signal , so with the sir ways some what clear , and computer reset , it should do fine ! until the bunnies multiply and bring babies ( good luck folks ) now off too see what the change filters is all about

      The Ice Fan blows cold air from freezer through a duct into the ice maker. There is also a return duct. My theory is the Ice Fan has or one of the ducts has accumulated frost. The ideas is to melt the frost by allowing the inside of freezer to warm up. It worked for me.

    • @frankyounger231
      @frankyounger231 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks kent ! I saw one more video , on the ice fan freezer inside the freezer compartment it self , so I will re-check my theory , on the coils ... I did get a repeat of code so will do 1 more look at the inside ! will post results when I have them

      an up date ! been 3 days for my L.G. error code ! and only came back on once , { and that was the next day after I cleaned out the coil area ... } but , the code has not been back on since , only thing I did was , clean the coil in lower back area of refrigerator , and I bet it could use a little more cleaning , as the only thing I used was vacuum hose , thinking of using air compressor and air blower nozzle to clean out the rest of the coil area ... but at this moment , I have ice being made , and the error code has not come back on { 3 days into the original fix }

      @@kateleonard2904 Yeah, he took off the back panel in the freezer section and removed the ice from the fan that way. It worked, and now I have to do it again because, 6 yrs later, the problem just happened again and I forgot I even posted this comment! Sorry it took so long to reply . . . going right now to buy some ice to keep the ice cream from melting and then getting on my hands and knees to remove all freezer items, remove the drawer, and pull off that back panel, and de-ice the fan - hopefully avoiding another repair bill!

    Doesn't make any sense. It don't matter if you let the unit defrost for 8 hrs. You are not fixing the issue. You are not explaining why this is happening. Yes, lete defrost but i guarantee you you will get that error code in 2 months. There"s a repair for this which is a new fan grille assy that comes with a new ice fan motor and a heater around the ice fan. Heater goes connected to the defrost heater. Google it.

      I was on vacation for a few weeks and when I returned had IF error code. The warm air with door open thawed the fan. It has been a few years but IF code has never happened again. Likely normal usage keeps this from reoccurring.
