I looked this video up 2 weeks ago and went straight for the fix. I wasn't able to remove the top freezer shelf but reached the blower area easily. Dude, you saved me a big headache. Excellent advice, its worked like new since. Thanks.

Great post! Was doing the 8-hour thing cutting the power off, then I thought I was keeping the house not cool enough, none of those worked. Was about to call LG when I came across your video, did this exact thing and it worked! THANKS!

Super grateful I found this as it fixed our issue in 15 minutes and we didn’t have to go through the hassle of unplugging our fridge for several hours! Thank you!!

Ultimately, watching this video saved me a ton of time for not having to troubleshoot the unit or disassemble the door (like in other videos). It also saved me from buying a replacement fan or PCB, so TRY THIS FIRST! Mine was this exact model and I had a thick layer of ice/frost over the blower fan area. It took me about 40 minutes start to finish taking out all the drawers and blow drying the fan area. I recommend grabbing a towel before laying down to use the blow dryer. You may need it! All the ice melted away from the fan and now its keeping the ice tray area nice and cool again. Thank you so much for publishing this video!

Yes, it is almost NEVER the fan or pc board burned up. The fan has a speed sensor, and when it jams, the fridge is smart enough to not keep trying to spin it. just defrost the fan blades. I use an external fan

Thanks for posting. I've had this error code a number of times in the past 3 years. I normally do the hair dryer either in the freezer compartment or in the top vent. Today i decided to see what was in the behind the vents at the back.
If you take the draws out as was done in the video above. You just need to undo a screw on either side of the door draw and then you can remove the draw completely. This will then give you access to the back of the freezer. In some other videos, they take the rails off but this particular model you don't need to and can push the vent up and pull the back section off. You'll need to unplug 3 cables which are connected to two fans and the freezer temperature sensors.
The reason for telling you all of this is the error code is for the icebox, not the freezer fan. The freezer fan is the one in the middle and there is likely ice on that too but fan you need to defrost is the box on the left which contains the fan that blows cold air into the icebox. Hope this helps other you have this annoying problem.

Thank you SOOO much. While I agree that this should never happen in a modern, expensive, gadget filled refrigerator, I was very happy to find your instructions on how to fix it! We bought this in October 2012 and have regularly changed the water and air filters, so I was surprised to see an error code. We took all the drawers out only to find that we had a HUGE block of ice covering the fan - so much that we used a rubber hammer to knock most of it off before we started up the blow dryer.
First - know that there is not addressed anywhere I could find in the owner's manual. It is not in the "Trouble-shooting" section.
Second - when you google the error code, most sites tell you to either call LG if it's still under warranty, or call a repair company to have your fan replaced if it's not under warranty. I can't imagine how much THAT would cost!
Third - after looking up a lot about the "energy saving mode" and the "ice plus" mode I came to a conclusion that the Ice Plus mode would keep the fan from accumulating ice because it keeps the whole refrigerator colder and drier. The energy saving mode basically keeps the surfaces between the doors slightly warm to avoid the buildup of condensation. I've always had my refrigerator set to the energy saving mode - so after we defrosted the ice maker fan, I switched it to Ice Plus. We'll see if there's any difference.
The only thing I can add to your tutorial is that once we defrosted the fan and dried everything out, we pressed and held the reset button and the error message never went off, even though the fan was running. My husband went and switched the circuit breaker on and off and "voila"! - the panel was back to normal. He said it's like a computer, sometimes you just have to do a "cold boot"!
    Thanks again!

Thanks for the video. It helped me avoid an unnecessary service call. I didn't even have to unload the freezer - The vent system that the ice maker fan uses to circulate cold air is on the inside of the left hand refrigerator door. You can see 2 vents, the fan output and the air return, along with the matching vent duct work in the left door. I simply directed the air from my hairdryer into these vents for a few minutes and that was enough to get rid of the frost. You do have to cycle power to the refrigerator to clear the error, as others have noted. One other trick is to manually push in the door switch with the refrigerator door open. If the fan is working, it will turn on about a minute after pushing in the door switch.

Thanks for your video, David. We really wanted your blow dryer shortcut to work. But the error message returned about 10 minutes after completing your steps. Our solution was to remove everything from fridge and freezer and unplug for 8 hours (not a joyous task). But after unplugging all day, that was the permanent fix.

Thank you soooo much this worked for our refrigerator lfxs30766s that had a E 1F issue and although we don't have a button like you do at the end that you held in the freezer, we were able to reset it via the breaker and it worked. We also did put the hair dryer to the vents of the refrigerator doors that go to the ice maker from the freezer!! The newer ones do not have buttons they have magnetic pickups as door switches. You can hear the fan go back on if you listen carefully and crack the freezer door slightly lights off...if the lights are on the fans dont kick on... then just hit the breaker and that will act as a reset to the refrigerator. Again thank you sooooooooooooooooooooo much, I know this will help people for years to come!

Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! After reporting the IF error to them, the LG Service rep sent a video on how to level the doors. Really? The doors???!!!. I knew that wasn't the cause so I came to youtube and found your video. Perfect advise, especially the little things like how to remove the drawers. 1/2 hour later we have a working fan and everyone is happy. Only thing I'd suggest to those coming here for advise is that there's bit at the end about holding down the tab that signals the door is shut for just a few seconds. For us, it took up to 15 minutes for the fan to come online again, so just shut the freezer door, go chill out for a while and check back later. If you've defrosted it properly it will be back running soon enough.

great advice it work great thanks. Also the back panel that the fan sits in pops out very easy was able get the ice and blow dry the rest off. there's 3plugs you have to unplug before pulling all the way out. This cut my time in half about 20mins.

Worked like a charm. I found a bag near my vent that you blowdry which probably didn't help with the condensation that turned into a lot of ice in the bottom of mine. Great time to clean out the freezer and save some money. Thanks

Thanks for the video as it gave me a good idea what I was working with down there. I tried using the hair dryer on the top door vent like I've seen in other videos and that did work one time for me about 3-4 years ago. This time it wasn't working so I had to pull the lower drawers out and I pulled the white plastic molding from the back. I didn't disconnect any of the 4-5 bundled wire groups that were attached to the back, but I was able to pull it out of the way enough that I could blow the hair dryer back behind the plastic. I worked the left square a lot as the middle fan already was working which I could see spinning when I blew air that direction. After about 10 minutes of this and feeling the plastic was warm to the touch, I put the panel back in (it just snaps in place after you put the two bottom tabs in and then push the top and sides until it's flush). I had already turned the breaker off to the fridge so I flipped it back on and opened the top door and pushed the door sensor back in. Air was blowing out of the vent that goes to the ice maker so the fan was working at this point. I've had it running for several hours now and the error code has not come back.

Great video. It fixed the IF error. I had to apply the heat 3 times because the 1st 2 times the fan was making a horrendous clicking noise, which I took to being ice on one or more fan blades. Third time lucky fan is running quiet again.

You're trying to defrost your evaporator fan your ice maker fan assembly is to the left and always use a steamer not a hair dryer if possible. Also you should pop off that panel to see if it's a defrost problem also LG makes a new ice fan assembly which has more insulation to the ice fan does not start getting ice jammed.

    • @jacknathaniel5203
      @jacknathaniel5203 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My evaporator fan motor went first. Replaced that on a 2014 LG not even three months ago. Today I get the 1F error. This is the third time I've had to defrost in three months. The first time was to see if the evaporator motor was just blocked, second time was to replace. I'm assuming I'll be replacing the ice fan soon, too. I will not be buying LG again.

I got an easier fix. I have the same problem and my fix only takes about 10 SECONDS. Get yourself a broom stick or a golf club. Just open the bottom drawer, insert the broomstick or golf club over the top drawer and where the fan goes, hit it gently with the back of the broomstick handle or the golf club handle. The code will reset in no time. I actually do this about once a week. Enjoy
