The Longest 18th Century Pocket Project Ever!

  • One item of 18th Century Clothing that I find absolutely fascinating and awesome all at once are pockets!
Women's clothing didn't have pockets, and it was made in such a manner that it could change sizes as needed due to weight gain/weight loss and pregnancy. Petticoats were made with slits at the side near the waistband, and pockets were worn under the stays. They could be easily accessed through the slits in the petticoats.
Pockets could be used to carry personal items, sewing kits, money, and various other objects.
My sister volunteered to hand-embroider a pair of 18th Century pocket panels for me, and I am finally getting the pockets put together.
I hope you enjoy my little trip down memory lane in the middle.
    Thank you for watching!

Found your channel through the Welsh viking and the pocket swap.

What a fabulously beautiful set of pockets!! Very nice video. I enjoyed the personal notes along the way.

That is some neat embroidery. I subscribe to many embroidery channels, but there is always room for another.

She really does. I'll see if I can find some pictures of the Polish embroidery she's done and post them in the community tab.

The embroidery is stunning! Great job by your sister. The pocket is wonderful as well. I did the B&T Historical Sew Along and made an 18th Century Pocket, without the beautiful embroidery though, which was good but your video cleared up a few areas that I had lingering confusion over. Thank you. Now on to the second one.

Oh my goodness her hand embroidery is just gorgeous wish I had the time or patience for that. And I love that your hand sewing while watching Harry Potter. Looks amazing!

Thank you. I have tried recently to teach myself embroidery, and while I can make something that's passable, I definitely don't have the patience to become as good as her at it.
Harry Potter is my go-to when I want noise in the background but don't necessarily want to have to pay attention. :-D

@@SwimminginaSeaofEstrogen awesome. I have done some hand embroidery but it isn't nearly as nice at that. And I have so many other things I enjoy doing that I have yet to dedicate the time needed to learn to make it look good. Maybe some day. Love all your content!!
