This whole story sounds suspicious. It seemed like the father and daughter painted this picture of him trapping her for sympathy from the audience, family, and friends. They're smirking especially when they talk about him working in the past, it seems like they're lying. Hope he can get a good father figure to help lead him in love.
The issue that a lot of these couples are having is with their SO's core values & integrity. Those aren't small issues that can be fixed just because you nag a person. The person has to choose to change for themselves. However, if your SO won't even make an effort to get/keep a job, a place to stay, or commit to you w marriage then there's a good chance that they either won't or can't change 20 something odd years of being who they were taught/allowed to become. Should've thought of that before, now she has to deal with this loser for atleast 18 years.
