    Good company, but some trainers don't take showers daily.

    I like seeing these melton videos. If it wasn't for my current company paying me 0.70cpm I would go to Melton.

    Ian, if you read this, I am about to go to orientation at Melton I’m October. I was going to ask how it was driving a flat bed the first time, and how was your road test?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I liked flatbed a lot, there’s more to the job than just sitting, driving, and waiting. You have to get out and secure/ unsecure a few times per week. And the road test was pretty simple. Just pay attention to the instructors directions and you’ll be good

      @@ianelbert I keep her at 66. 65 is a big sluggish and just seems as if the Cummins I got likes 66 better. I also don’t press the accelerator from a stop, I kind of roll off the brake and then press.

  • @velocity1231

    They start 0.52 cpm for the freshly graduate driver right. It seems very low

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah 52 cpm. With the miles I get I average about $1,300/ week. With tarp pay, OD, and hazmat, you’re getting more than just cpm

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven’t looked extensively but from what I’ve heard 52 cpm isn’t bad for having no experience.

    is there a driver facing camera in the truck?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it’s driver and front facing. It’s triggered by G force I think, so if you slam on the brakes or hit something it’ll take the 10 seconds leading up the event and the 10 seconds afterward and send that clip in to be reviewed

  • @rknottjr
    @rknottjr ปีที่แล้ว

    Like the content! Do you still workout when you are OTR?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! And yeah I do. Not every day, but when I have the time and motivation I’ll work out. There’s definitely enough down time to fit a regular workout schedule into your week though if that’s something that’s important to you

    • @rknottjr
      @rknottjr ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, for sure. I guess I just really liked going to the gym and it’s much tougher to get to one now. I haul hazmat, so I’m a little more limited on where I can can go.

    Currently getting my CDL, Melton recruiter went to talk to us and seems like a good company. How often do you get home time?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว

      You earn one day of hometime for every 7 days out. And I think that’s pretty standard across all OTR jobs. But melton does have a couple regional routes where I believe you’re home every weekend.

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And your hometime days never expire and you can use as many as you want at any given time. So you can take a whole month off and it’s not an issue, if you have the days saved up.

    • @paulstone4804

    I see you don’t have a gps system… what do you use for your routes? And what do you recommend?

    • @ianelbert
      @ianelbert  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just use apple GPS on my phone and double check everything with my atlas if the route it gives me looks questionable. I’ll also look at the area I’m dropping off in on google earth the day before I get there so I can see what the roads will look like. I would say getting a truck GPS is probably the best thing to do, but I’ve been okay so far lol. And Melton also will usually send a detailed street by street route for when you get close to the consignee l

    • @sebastianperez6749
