- (Turn volume up for funny sideline conversations) From a seminar I taught in Houston at "BattleGrounds at Neblet Creek". I decided to limit my techniques to those taught in the seminar. I demonstrate that proper orientation of the axe blade is more likely to bypass the body armor. how important the angle of your ax body strike. A parallel ax strike will bypass the bottom of the body armor. I hit him in the gap above his leg armor and below his body armor in the crease of his inner thigh, adjacent to his athletic protector.. It looked very uncomfortable. I teach these techniques and others at armoredacademy...

I think Hollywood needs to do the complete opposite lol. Armor in Hollywood movies never works as intended. In the movies plate armor and chain mail is made out of cardboard LOL.
That being said, bludgeoning was the most common way to hurt plated soldiers, but plate armor made death on the battlefield way less common. To kill someone with full plate armor would usually take some form of grappling and the use of a dagger, which was the real death dealing weapon on a battle field in those times. On top of it protecting the person inside, usually people wearing plate armor were taken prisoner because it meant that they could afford to pay a ransom.
The worst part about this is in an actual fight this would have been death, such a clean hit
Hitting the right place with the right amount of force ends a fight in one hit. Although slamming an AX into another mans ball is generally frowned upon.
Worst part? That's the best part shows how awesome it was

Im pretty sure it wasn't a liver shot it was too low. Might have hit him in the kidney though but any shot to the belly with an axe is sure to debilitate even the most hardened warriors.

was it a faint? slowed down it looks like the one on the right starts moving way before the one on the left. when the left is putting on their gauntlet, you can just see the one on the right watching their every movement. could it have been a read? i think so

every single fight ive seen by you is just like a bossfight cutscene where the character is too noob to fight, absolute chad of chads!

High feint then dropped his weight a bit and whacked him on "the sweet spot" it didnt help that he was stepping forward with his right leg which made a perfect little shelf to rest the axe blade on, this is interesting because i have seen data on medieval warriors autopsies that showed most of the crippling injuries were against their legs between the knee and upper thighs and then followed up with a piercing or crushing injury to the head or neck or through the ribs, just goes to show that an axe even a blunt one is pretty devastating even through armor, should also note that even though the dude got taken out with that hit he still delivered a pretty hard counter strike and if other guy hadn't been wearing armor that probably would have broken his collarbone and maybe a few of the upper ribs, if neither had any armor that could have been a mutual kill, armor is really good stuff lol

Add to the fact most people throughout history were barely armored.
Go for the feet and go for the testicles are in a lot of fighting manuals. Essential Karate mentions it many times for instance.
@zxzrp0 you were less likely to be killed in a full set of armor. You wouldn't see many fights, due to being a noble, and if you got involved then you most likely would get knocked out.
Basically the IRL version of running into an enemy whilst you’re trying to find a save/rest point to heal up.
Damn, I can feel the pain in my liver. One of the most painful ways to take someone down is to hit their liver, and that axe smacked it hard.
How are people seeing the liver being hit in this? It's clearly not, unless your liver is on your inner upper thigh...

Great armor, (referring to the gauntlets) doesn't a great fighter make.

I have a couple questions.
1. How close to armor was this historically?
2. Has the armor been updated, and would you say it's better than a few hundred years ago?
3. How expensive/difficult is it to get involved in this sport?
Its very close. 1. Armor nerds would say there are deviations, but nothing practically different. 2. The steel and tempering process is better, but the craftsmanship is not whwn compared. 3. Its expensive, but in line with motocross. Armor runs about $3-5K. Travel can be expensive if.you want to attend tournements and don't live in a major population center.

I think that hit the liver area. I believe a hit there is prone to make people contract in pain, which is what happened. I can only guess though.
Rohrich hit him at the bottom of his hip/ top of thigh. A hit like that makes it hard to stand. I think the opponent might've been scared for his junk, too. It takes a well-balanced man to remain standing after a hit like that.

They're wearing Brigandine. Its flexible segmented plates that still allow a considerable amount of concentrated force in 1 general area. If it was a solid plate cuirass, he would have been perfectly fine.
I hit him just below the armor. Thats why the parallel strike is so important. People with solid plate can't stand up to a hit from me, but in general you are absolutely correct, solid plate is MUCH more protective
