  • Time for yet another Northstar plastic minis unboxing!
    This time it's their snakemen kit, which is supposed to be for Ghost Archipelago, but really could find use in just about any fantasy tabletop game out there.
    A lot of the typical weapon types that we've seen on most Northstar sprues are there (hand weapons, polearms, shields, spears, bows) all with their own unique flair. The snakemen bodies offer more customization compared to their human counterparts, as all the torsos and legs are separate.
    I feel the arms are too short. Maybe it's just me?
    Don't forget you can still bash these together with all the other Northstar figures from their Oathmark, Frostgrave, and Ghost Archipelago lines!
    Get them direct from Northstar-
    www.northstarfi...
    or their US partner, Brigade Games-

    While they aren't Lizardmen, I am tempted to use them as such for a Saurian Kings of War force. I have used the Frostgrave Gnolls as a Kings of War Herd force. Works a charm, and at a great price.

    Frostgrave doesn't have rules for different races -- and this is intentional so you can create any warband you like.

      We're quite aware. It's all fun and games until it becomes an issue of size and stature, especially when you're getting really funky warbands with stuff likes groups of Reaper Mouslings vs Kingdom Death survivors, where it really can muck with LOS and targeting.

    Do you think the lizards men heads would fit? Like the geco heads?

    Nuts to the haters. These things are awesome, made all the creepier by not having the same anatomical proportions as humans do. Great for pulp and fantasy adventuring in RPGs as well as the obvious role as Saurus proxies over in GW land.
    That said, they aren't very compatible with the other XXGrave figs unless you want to do cut-and-paste weapon swaps. In particular, those heads aren't fitting anything human due to the way the neck joins are aligned.

    How big are the arms and hands compared to GW Skinks? The melee weapon options seem like they’d be really nice for some conversions.

      A bit larger. I imagine they'd work on old saurus bodies. If I find any tucked away somewhere I may try just that!

    Nice sculpts, beautiful figures!

      I just wish they were a bit less hunched over. Sure, they'd be almost too tall, but I feel there's too much muscle bunched up in their shoulders.

      @@ObscuritiesinMiniature I'm loving this box because of this, I have a ton of multipart Chaos Warriors from back in 1990s, unusable with the forward chest mounted heads, but with this box and its the extra heads I'm building a whole army of Snakemen for KoW (+ some cool reaper bones stuff).
      Chaos warriors and knights with head swaps and green stuff helms for hvy troops, arm swaps and greenstuff tassets for medium inf halberdiers etc, and shorten these guys legs at the bindings to match those arms for ranged/ light inf, this also gives them a squat, ready to springing forward look, like a coiled snake rather than prison rules workout body.

    Would of loved tails, and what are the daggers in the kit, with 1 attached hand, no arm for?

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually the expectation is you snip off a hand to replace with the dagger. It's the same on other Frostgrave kits as well.
      Tails would have been greatly appreciated!

      They're pretty cool. i just wish their arms were a tad bit longer and they weren't hunched over as much as they seem to be, but that's just superficial nitpicking. They'd make perfect Yuan-Ti for a Dungeons and Dragons game!

      Rapid Vision Loss yes, but they are supposed to be snakes.

      Yeah, big arms would have given them a Dino vibe.

    They are snakemen.. they may have evolved arms late, think of lizards and dinosaurs (T rex).. short arms! I like they are not just human proportion figures.. just with a snakehead. More alien like that.

      Well, with Stargrave now being a thing, I think it's time to make some TRULY alien models with these guys! Now to see if I have any spare bodies laying around!

    These guys are such a disappointment in appearance, I don't know what happened with them but their anatomy is awful.
    Very strange considering the gnolls, pretty similar hunchbacked beast-like creatures frostgrave also made, came out really well. There's such a massive difference in quality between the two to the point where they don't look like they came from the same company.

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My guess is sacrifices were made to make them more compatible with the other plastics. The metal snakemen look a lot better in how they're posed, but I don't think they're as large as the plastics. Guess I'll have to go grab some and find out... for science!

  • @j453

      The tails evolved and split into legs.
