    I normally sterilize the lids, rings, and jar in a hot water bath on the stove for about 10 mins. I ladle hot jam in jars, seal, then water bath again for 10-15 mins. Remove from heat, place jars top down on towel and allow to sit overnight.

      @@nathanielparga4816 all you really need is one cup. The berries already have a natural sugar that is released when cooked.

    Everybody's complaining about the amount of sugar go buy a pakage of sure-jell and see the amount of sugar they call for
    They have reduced sugar sure-jell too for those who don't want to use the full amount

    I picked blackberries and made Jam, same weight of each fruit and sugar, i dissolved a cube of jelly (the stuff that sets wobbly) in half a cup of boiling water and threw that in to help it set works great

    Thanks for sharing. The Blackberries here are beginning to ripen. A couple more weeks and I should have my gallon of berries. I am going to venture into making Ebelskivers and this jam will make a perfect accompaniment.

    You can if you are going to use it like you would am open jar of jam and store it in the fridge. You can also do that if you are making freezer jam (store it in the freezer) but if you want it to have a long shel life it would need to have an air tight seal so you wouldn't be able to use plastic containers. Hope that answer your question :)

    Some recipes measure berry amount before mashing. Then equal amount sugar. Curious to me all the variations. I sealed my jars with “regular pectin” at the top. Easy.

    Don’t use pectin: it ruins the flavour of the jam; makes it taste funny. Preserve instead with the juice from a freshly squeezed lemon 🍋 - your our tastebuds will thank me! Equal parts fruit to sugar: cup for a cup. Store in your fridge and it should be fine for weeks.

    How can you tell if it sealed correctly?

    • @allieelmo
      @allieelmo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you put your finger on the lid and can push it down and it pops up it is not sealed. If it is concaved and does not move when pushing on it then it had sealed. But I would not do this until it has cooled for you may mess up the sealing process.
