Just made blackberry jam using your microwave recipe. It’s fabulous! Just made 1lb for a test, second bigger batch now in microwave. Thank you so much I’m delighted!
Lovely! I don’t own a microwave so just use a saucepan for jam making. I do own a stainless jam funnel though, which is very handy for decanting all sorts of things into glass jars! Just made a batch of blackberry jam with a bit of elderberry the other week - yum! It’s beyond me why anyone would buy tasteless plastic packaged blackberries from a supermarket when you can get the wild ones with all the flavour, and completely free! Our allotment hedge is full of them right now. I adore your book The Garden Jungle, its a must read and should be made compulsory reading for everyone! ❤️🐝
I was going to recommend a funnel too, so much easier and much less mess :) I've never seen this done in a microwave before! I think I'll still prefer stove top so I can watch and smell the jam as it cooks, but this makes it accessible to more folks.
I’ve always done the top of the stove method, this is so much easier. Off to find blackberries. A teaspoon on my fresh sourdough yum! I have read all your books, they’re excellent.
Is it ok to eat the berries direct from the bush? I’ve just picked a bag full and a friend recommend steeping then to allow the maggots and bugs to float to the surface? Looking forward to trying the Jam
Humans can digest maggots, they're actually healthy. It's when they're growing in decaying meat that illness comes from. So yeah it's gross but won't harm ya. I'll always be prone to pick and eating I can't help myself lol
Can't believe he ate them straight off the bush . I've just picked some and soaked them in warm salty water , the amount of maggots, Caterpillar was scary ! Through half of berry's away as I expected to do .
of course thats part of the fun of picking. Dont pick the nasty ones. too many people worried about things like that now, thats why we catch so many bugs, you can be too sterile. where do you think they go when you make the jam, do you think he soaked them?
Extra protein 🤷🏽 otherwise a good minute rinse with cool water is fine too remove most insects. Though, you can also soak them in a slightly salty water/brine as mentioned above. Generally speaking, blackberries won't have parasites 🪱 Strawberries and blueberries can though 🫡 (Leaving this here for someone who might need it, even though I'm very late to this party xD)
Thank you for sharing. Everywhere I looked, they said we need to close it straightaway. But due to trapped heat, the lid will have water on it that could lead to mould, won't it? Could you tell me the reason why we shouldn't wait to cool, then close the lid?
My beautiful blackbird was murdered ( right outside my bedroom window) last month, so I will have to use the brambles myself ! Jam will make a nice change from bramble whisky - thanks for the recipe - have not tried microwave jam before.
Well that's different - maybe try it next time 👍 I just use the microwave to sterilize the jars & boil up on the hob, we prefer jelly & sieve the seeds out before adding the sugar (you can use less sugar (75%) before it gets too runny).
Congrats! Youve turned a recipe that only needed 15 minutes on the stove into 20 in the micro wave, adding an extra step in the middle. Just use a sauce pan folks. Youre welcome
A quart of berries would be about 1.25 lbs according to Godless Google . 80 degrees C is 176 F . American stoves regulate down to about 225 generally . I mention this only to help all the Yanks like me Out There . I will be picking berries soon and trying this technique. Thanks .

This guy’s energy is fantastic!
After watching your video a few years ago, I've been making blackberry jam every year sharing it with friends and family.

Thank you for idea for microwave version. Just made some and turned out great!
Picked 20lb so far this year. 20lt of wine and 2ltr of syrup 😋

Thank you :)
I’ve got thousands of these berries around in my area im going to try x
I just made some this afternoon inspired by your video! Thanks so much for the idea, it tastes delicious ☺️

Beautiful and delicious Summer in a jar 😋

I seal it when hot so it is sterile - I figure once cool fungal spores can get in. Seems to work.
@davegoulson6831 I see, thank you for the advice. 🙂
Love the microwave tip, will try with next batch 😊..
My beautiful blackbird was murdered ( right outside my bedroom window) last month, so I will have to use the brambles myself ! Jam will make a nice change from bramble whisky - thanks for the recipe - have not tried microwave jam before.
Just picked about a kilo of huge sweet blackberries from my allotment and there thornless. Will give this a go tomorrow.

What power level on the microwave do you use please.
I was wondering that too
So if I was to use a sauce pan 20 mins from boil
Great idea!! I have some yellow spots on my Blackberries, not completely black. Is that okay to consume?
Fantastic, I’m going to try making this today. Never realised you could use the microwave.
Do we need to wash the berry after picking?.
Thanks.
Picked mine last Sunday.
How come you didn't blend the brambles before cooking them.
microwave just killed all goodness 😂
Totally agree, that food is now dead food . Literally.
What micro setting ?
What power should I put the microwave on, or do you know what power your microwave has? Or does anyone else know what power I should use?
This looks delicious! Have you got a link to your books?
Urrgghh pips - heat berries - sieve + potato masher - add sugar & lemon juice - rolling boil - jar - lid - turn upside down - pop goes button - it's done
Each to their own - I love the texture, and never notice the pips!
@@davegoulson6831 😭 hehe
I hate the pips too! Best jam I made was blackberry apple, but I seived it too.
I love the pips
@@marielouiseweeksb33attitud33 hehe you can have mine, but I'm keeping the jam
Microwave? Sorry can’t trust a microwave to make jam
great video
What a lovely video bless you
What power microwave have you got please?
Do you let the jam cool to room temp then store it in a cupboard or the fridge?
Can I use sucron please instead of sugar
I didn't see you heat/sterilize the lids or clean the top of the jar before putting the lid on.
then you should watch the video again , as he does do this.
What’s a microwave do to the nutrition you’d get from the natural berries?
Any heating will reduce vitamin C content, unfortunately
Summer in a jar!
Can I use sucron sugar
Sorry, I don't know
400 gm
Black berry and sugar
1/2 lemon
Mix all.

Hope everyone gives their fruit a good soaking first to wash away tiny spiders and such. 😝
A fork in the lemon removes every last drop of liquid!
Thanks
I'm sorry for your cuts.

@@joemurphy1626 I loved using this trick , but it's been removed now 😑😑😑😑
@@ssssSTopmotion I've been noticing that lately too, bastards 😂
The juicey ones are placed just out of reach because we don't want dwarves getting to fruity 😉
You lost my attention with the microwave!
It is sad when someone can't make jam and this is not really the way to do it. Bring back proper cooking in schools. Blackberries are Autumnal.
This was posted in September, where, in the UK, blackberries are still in season. And his jam looked pretty nice to me!
I am sorry
You don't have a clue
Do you?
That is too much suger
Microwave ? Seriously? 😂
