Toyota 4runner 3.0 mass air flow sensor and how to diagnose the check engine light without a scanner

I will see how the engine runs on the cold start other wise I will try to clean the mass air flow sensor or replace it with a used one.

Your like me I have a 95 4runner V6 auto 4x4 very nice Arizona Survivir original paint also 90 extcab 4x4 v6 auto...4runner I pulled pass valve cover (any everything else to pull head) looks like cyl 1 cam lobe for exhaust is wiped out pretty bad I’m assuming either the clearance is severely f@&!d or bent valve/stuck. Leak down on 1 couldn’t get exhaust valve to close would just constantly leak straight outta exhaust. Well I bought a used one off eBay didn’t fix it so I thought it might be bad so I found a company that sells new rebuilt ones got it in today put it on and same dang thing I’m about to burn it down lol but I can unplug that plug in on side of mas and it Idols like a new one your video is the only one Iv found that where I’m having the same problem 🤷🏻‍♂️ don’t mean to bother ya just sharing my issue lol

No bother all comments are welcome. You may have another problem causing this problem. Disconnect the battery for a minute. When the check engine light comes on again after running it check the codes again. I hope you figure it out good luck. Feel free to let me know how it goes.

If new Mass Air flow didn’t fix the problem it may new a Throttle Position Sensor

I think maybe one of your fuel injector went bad or sticking, my 94 is burning alot of fuel and you can here it miss a little, so i found pulled the spark plug #2 and #6 wire and found no change so im gonna replace them tomorrow.

There was more to the story. It did the same thing when the head gasket blew on the 92 so I switched the af sensory. Thanks for watching 🔧👍

I worked at Toyota for 10 years. In that time I only had 1 airflow meter go bad. In the video it sounds like you think the AFM controls the air into the engine. It’s simply a sensor that tells the computer how much air is coming into the intake. There’s also a switch that runs the fuel pump. There’s also an intake air temp sensor in the assembly.
What codes are you getting?

I don't remember the codes now. What happened was the head gaskets blew on my 92 4 runner and after I did the repair it didn't run right or it would hardly run. So I got a bad air flow sensor code. I took the air sensor off my 94 and put it on the 92 and it was fine. I've done alot of head gaskets on these and never had blown head gaskets affect the sensor. Did you ever have this happen to you? Did the mass airflow meter from the junkyard fix your problem ?

Hey i have. 95 4runner n when i accelerate it hesitates but when i lightly press the gas pedal feels normal slowly speeds up any advice?????

@@gravelyman yeah now it has code 31 ,32,and 41 seems that every time i fix a check engine light code another pops up first it was the light for the egr n then code31 it doesnt idle poorly it does hesitate to start in the mornings

@@IzzyD162 hey i replace few things on my car what u want to do is clean your throuttle position sensor with that special cleaner u can buy it at auto zone make sure u mark the throttle position sensor before u take it off mark a line with a marker to put it exactly back hopefully u dont need a new one i paid like $180 for a new one let me know if it worked for u
