  • Using shop sawn veneer I build lumber core plywood. I show you how to build plywood for use in furniture construction using whatever veneer you want. I use poplar as the core and walnut as the show face. I make my own plywood with these wood veneers, a vacuum bag, and pump. This woodworking technique is a great skill to expand and challenge yourself on producing great results that can always come in handy on a future project.

Damnit!! I just had to spend a quick grand on vacuum gear after watching this. Thanks! No, really, thanks for the demonstration. Looks super fun. Can't wait to try this.

Any other good websites you’d recommend for a first time guy?

Great video James. I've being heavy on the research trail on making hard wood veneers. Love the 1/8'" thick hardwood veneer look and such a high quality robust result. Really adds to the high quality of craftsmanship to the furniture piece. Looking forward to adding this process to my resume!!! Thank you for the instructional information. Good stuff!!!

Nice panel - but it must be worth a fortune considering how much tape, glue, and labor time is used in production

Do you think I’d get similar results with commercial veneer? I have a vacupress but don’t have a drum sander yet. So I’ve only used commercial veneer for panels. This looks amazing and super fun

Sometimes the mistake turns out well - the sides with alternating layers of walnut and poplar look really nice :-)

I'm curious how flatness is obtained with the panel. It would seem with the variations of the component pieces it would be warped or wavy.

Great video! I’m trying to do as much research as I can before attempting, do you have any good books to recommend as reference material?
