  • Making your own wood projects are great, but sometimes you need some thin wood veneer to finish your project. Here is a great way I found to make some at home. It is a simple process but my results have turned out very nice.

I've often considered something like this but wasn't sure how to go about it. Thanks Clinton!

Very cool process. I'm thinking I can turn a lot of my scrap lumber into veneer pieces. Then I can mix and match as needed to make any size panel I need for whatever project I have in mind. So no more scrap lumber. I'll just store it all as veneer pieces. Thanks.

Neat idea! Your video could not have been anymore timely I am currently making some drawers for my workbench. These wood veneers would be perfect for drawer fronts. Thanks,,

Love your ideas and the way you explain how to make it. I made the same bed for my son that you made for your son (he loved it). You video was easy to follow. I will be using this idea this spring. Thank you!

@jenharris6970 I remember a floating like bed with lights & if I remember correctly the lights even change color. I just love SLC.

I did this a few weeks ago to edge a small occasional table. I used spare 3x2 I had lying around and once stained you can't tell it is cheap wood. I very lightly sanded by hand as this seem to give me more control and trimmed off the excess using a utility knife. The whole process is time consuming and probably buying strips of veneer tape would have been easier but IMO wood is better than tape so it was worth the effort

Excellent video. It would be nice for edge banding ply shelves.

Why do you, like so many people, apply too much glue, spread it around then close joint and wipe half the glue off. A small continuous bead of glue, in most cases with naturally spread through the joint leaving much less squeeze out. A small squeeze out is best left for 15 to 20 mins untill it" cheezes"
Then it can easily scraped or peeled of and won't stain the wood.
    Saves a lot of glue.
Great job, thanks ,I always learn something.

Nice video Clinton. One question why not cut strips from the face, I mean get each strip to be 3.5" wide instead of being 1.5" wide. Wouldn't that result in wider panels & less glue ups to achieve the desired width? Thanks.

That is true, but for someone new to this, cutting a 2x4 on edge would have a better chance of flipping over and getting them hurt. Also cutting with this technique, I feel that the wood would be less likely to warp because it is almost quarter sawn.

Isn’t a eighth of an inch a little bit too thick for a veneer?

It depends on what you are needing it for

Wonder if one could steam this so that they would be flexible ?

    • @SpecificLove7
      @SpecificLove7  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's usually a little harder to steam been kiln dried lumber but it might be possible.

I once saw some one do it with a wet towel and an iron but can’t remember who and the wood was a tad thinner it was then clamped in the required shape before gluing but if you test it on a 4x2 or scrap wood I’m sure it could work👍🏻

Of course ,you could heat and bend it. Try soaking strips in water heat them with an iron or a heat gun. Clamp to a mould and wait a couple of minutes to cool.
Some woods bend better than others so just experiment.
It's easy. The thinner they are the easier they bend
