If Dean want to, they could show the Bigsby Merle Travis (1948) or Jack Parsons (1951) Guitars - both made 'before' the Gibson Les Paul but both very much a Singlecut design that is as similar to the LP as most other rounded SC's (as opposed to the more 'tele' style SC) so that wasn't their 'shape'. They may have designed the V, Explorer and Moderne shapes - experimenting - but they weren't patented and whilst 'Flying V' or 'Explorer' names maybe are trademarks of Gibson, the shape itself isn't. Many 80's bands used Dean or some other brand 'V' guitars - inc many with long standing Artist endorsement models.
This “Play Authentic” shit has just been negative karma for Gibson

I have a couple Gibson guitars but they are case queens... investment... I play everyday on $500 base price custom to my style masterpieces!

@@Ottophil it's not about chibson copies, those should be seized at customs in most places if they have "Gibson" on the headstock*
It's about other legit manufacturers making guitars vaguely shaped like some Gibson model
* - you could argue there are a few exceptions.. like copies built by master builders like Kris Derrig.. Slash's original AFD era LP.. that then got scanned and adopted by Gibson as a signature model

The fact that Gibson failed to defend its IP for four solid decades is all that _should_ need to be presented to any court. They essential released those designs to the public domain.
Imagine suing because of guitar shapes. Lots of companies would be screwed and guitarists would have a hard time trying to get a stylish guitar

I find it hilarious that the judge waited until Gibson’s were at minimum $1600. All the rest of the inexpensive guitars are on Gibson demo shop or reverb. Hahahaha
