    Biggest issue for phys and geo is honestly just elemental shields. Too many enemies just have elemental barriers that make it difficult for those teams to reliably deal with, especially when taking into account enemies that completely negate damage if their shield is up.

    • @Accountthatexists
      @Accountthatexists ปีที่แล้ว +81

      That is genuilly geo biggest problem,(same with physical dmg) that those sheilds quite literally ruin the game, I think it's ok if a enemy locks u out of using one element, but when a sheild is up, no matter HOW OP UR PEICES ARE, u just can't peirce the sheild at all with geo (unless ur throwing ur head at the wall for 8 hours) and in my opinion i think they should just STOP making ELEMENTAL sheilds, if they want to make a sheild go over the enemy as a gimick, and have ANYBODY be able to brake it, remove abyss heralds or nerf how there sheilds work,(make it a phase Two instead would be good so they get there special abilitys at the end) cause if anybody thinks "oh it makes the game harder and people been asking for the game to be harder" and no that is not called being hard, that's being annoying

    The idea that Pyro characters will "cannibalize" eachother seems like a 4D chess calculated plan. The Nation of Pyro is the Nation of War and I feel like the Pyro Archon's gameplay will not avert that but only strengthen it, rewarding damage above all and forcing all Pyro characters to sacrifice others, or as Dainsleif said: "The victors shall burn bright, while the losers must turn to ash"

    • @tropicalsnow8784
      @tropicalsnow8784 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      To add to my point, so far it seems all elements sorta flow and peak with the archons, their stories, and their ideals.
      Anemo: With maybe the exception of Xiao and Wanderer, all anemo units are used in rainbow teams (though Wanderer still encourages multiple elements), living free
      Geo: Just like Morax, they are playing dead
      Electro: Until 3.0, Electro was stale, unchanging, eternal in mediocrity but Ei's perception of eternity was changed, and so did the electro characters. Still "eternal", but moving forward they will make use of new advancements, doing the same thing, triggering the same reactions.
      Dendro: Like Nahida being let out of her cage, Dendro came and imparted unto us the most complex element which doesn't get stronger and more diverse with new Dendro units (The wisdom), but with new Pyro, Hydro, and Electro units (the Knowledge) as only the Wise can comprehend knowledge.
      Hydro: Repressed and in the background, never taking charge (Never working as an mono-element team) steps onto the stage with thunderous applause, like water, it can assume any shape and the shape now is a water beam.
      Fates of Pyro and Cryo are yet to be witnessed, but Pyro will likely encourage burning away the weak pyro units to make the strong burn brighter while Cryo will reclaim the Ideal of "love" which the Tsaritsa helds and encourage supporting/sharing power of other elements

    This is a well thought and explained video, you take into the consideration about element capabilities in terms of raw damage as well as its elements reactions like how hydro is pretty much used in most of the other element combos such as bloom, hyperbloom, freeze, melt, superconfuct, swirl, electro-charged. Hydro really is the strongest element by far and will remain so, unironically without water we wouldn't live, so they thought of adding this idea to the game, as water being as important in reactions as it is for humans irl hahah.

    the kinda sad thing is that you can imagine a universe where physical *could* interact with the elements, but we'll probably never see that universe. you see a hint of it with the concept of needing a claymore user to break rocks, and it's not hard to see where you could go from there if you think of it as, "fist/weapon + element". like maybe physical could be good against geo, cryo and shields, maybe it could be weak to hydro, maybe pyro could buff it if you want to get super anime. you could build lore around it too--maybe physical is associated more with human willpower than with power granted by the gods, in which case it could be related to khaenri'ah. there's a lot you could do there that i don't think hoyo would ever consider doing.

    (EDIT) TLDR: Its hard for me to think dendro is better than electro when it's entire identity is being a buff for electro, meaning electro does everything dendro does but still retains its old options while dendro can only be relevenat with electro.
    I think youre backwards on electro and dendro. Yes. Dendro came after and significantly increased the value of electro. But dendro is also completely reliant on electro as a result. All of dendros usable reactions are electro reactions. One of them even *isn't* a hydro reaction. Dendro is more reliant on electro than it even relies on hydro.
    Synergy is a 2 way street. All the downsides of electro (not much in the way of mono element damage options and a heavy reliance on reactions) are even more prevalent in dendro. Electro has usable and even competitive playstyles independent of dendro though. So by thay token dendro is actually more dependent on electro than the other way around.
    On a other note. The weakness you added to electro of lack of mono element options. You were around in version 1 right? Electro was literally the mono element roster. Outclassing Geo at its own job. Electro units were designed with very high multipliers (raiden, beidou, fischl, even lisa's burst) to make up for the lack of damage they got through reactions. Electro has always been one of the best elements as a mono. It doesnt have specific units that force it luke Lyney for pyro, but that doesnt make it bad at that. You can slap beidou and fischl on any team (except raiden cause controversy) and that team will beat any content without reactions just cause of sheer numbers it pushes. Sucrose tazer has been a strong team since 1.0 (before electro charged and swirl did damage.) And it was 90% beidou and fischl just slapping numbers out. Amd electro has gotten stronger units since. And now has aggravate which incentivises stacking as much electro as possible, making teams of double or triple electro work perfectly fine wether they just run an anemo or they just run a dendro.
    I think you're overestimating dendro's value as an element because it has the same downsides as electro does to a heavier degree while being more reliant on one specific element (electro itself, even) than electro is. Sure it heavily raised the floor, but both of its reactions that raised the floor directly require electro, meaning both elements are equally responsible for that floor raise. Dendro is just given the credit because it came after, not because its doing more. Take the electro out of any dendro teams and they fall off the face of the earth. (Except nilou specirically). But take the dendro out of electro teams? You can find something else to put there. Itll work perfectly fine.
    Do a quick thought exercise. Remove electro from the game and think about what all is lost. You lose double swirl with EC. You lose tazer. You lose overvape. You lose both hyperbloom and aggravate. You lose superconduct (which isnt much of a loss but is one of the only lifelines for physical.) The only electro reactions that are duds are overload, which can be made better with overvape to not be a dud. And superconduct. Which provides a unique interaction that isnt provided elsewhere so is practically a necessary dud.
    Now remove dendro. You lose hyperbloom and spread. We can also say you lose burn, which is nigh the worst reaction in the game even behind superconduct. And burgeon. Which. Isnt that bad, but because it risks burn, is very very hard to make valud use of.
    The only things dendro provided thatre valuable are very very valuable. But theyre also lost without electro anyways. Meaning electro is equal parts responsible for that value. Whereas electro provided many other valuable options and even the not great ones still serve a purpose. Its a stronger element. Has all of dendro's tools and more. Dendro is just being given the credit for better tools because it came along more recently, despite the tools themselves still belonging just as much to electro as they do to dendro. Dendro is currently the only element treated as though its reactions belong exclusively to it and thats because it brought them in more recently, bringing in a change. It gives a biased persepective. Quicken isnt any less an electro reaction as freeze is a hydro reaction. Its not like hyperbloom is 90% dendro influence. Its 33%. It still doesnt work without 33% of hydro and 33% of electro. Meaning its an equal tool in all 3 of their arsenals. It shouldnt be treated like an exclusive merit of dendro just cause dendro introduced it as a change to the game.

      I think geo suffers a lot more from just that, reaction: crystalize is redundant since zhongli exist, no existing gameplay requires you to have a shield in the first place, if you are a new player or exploring the world you better go with healing units, characters availability: we got more dendro characters being released than new strong geo in the last 8 patches, same goes with physical, from the looks of it, navia is just itto sidegrade, freminet didn't do anything for physical, this impact team building and variations, reliance: no characters rely on geo as element, those who do are geo themself or dps that have no stagger resistance, you could say a lot of team rely on hydro or anemo to work or being stronger option, but geo? This video just gave me an idea as to how Cryo could be uplifted without a direct reaction with Dendro being invented,
    A unit which directly buffs using Cryo Reactions in tandem with other reactions. For example,a common trick used in Melt teams is that they're also partially burning teams as the reaction can assist in consistent pyro application. Freeze teams also use Dendro in a unique way via Fridge Comps. Using Freeze(And also superconduct,though not purposefully) as a method of assisting with triggering hyperbloom consistently as Freeze's primary application in most cases is actually Hydro rather than Cryo.(Seen with swirling enemies effected by freeze which then results in swirling hydro.)
    A unit that directly buffs using Cryo in a supportive manner with it's reactions or other elements's reactions in indirect support of it would be very fun and interesting.

    Some fun buffs for Physical, Cryo and Geo would be:
    - dealing Physical or Geo to Shielded targets builds up the Shatter status (like posture damage, scaling off the damage dealt instead of the reactions caused), after reaching a certain threshold it will proc Shatter and instantly break the shield, Shatter will greatly decrease the targets resistances.
    - The regular Shatter of Frozen or Petrified targets will also greatly decrease the targets resistances.
    - Electro and Cryo should reduce the enemy Defense percentually for each application (like a Corrosion effect that builds up the more it is procced).
    Thsi way both Phys and Geo solve the issue of elemental shields, Superconduct becomes a way more useful reactions in general, Shatter will have a more meaningful effect (even though I wish applying Geo to a Geo afflicted character would Petrify said character, idk how it would be useful for synergy with other elements)

    I think the only way Physical and Geo can become more relevant is if they make a bunch of common and elite enemies with a non-elemental sheild that acts like second HP bar which only takes Physical (or Geo) dmg, and the enemies themselves are immune to elemental reaction damage (including dmg boosts like Vaporise, meaning that your Hu Tao will hit as if theres no Hydro on the enemy) but have negative resistance to Physical (or Geo) damage so your Freminet can hit harder.
    Another way to make it more important is to add a set different effects, somewhat similar to elemental reactions, that trigger when you hit an enemy, affected by an element, with a Physical atk. We already have Shatter, which triggers when you hit a Frozen enemy with Physical or Geo dmg, so this job has already been started.
    It shouldn't have to be anything too complicated, even small buffs would be enough. Like, hitting an Electro, Electro-Charged or Quicken afflicted enemy gives you elemental particles, hitting a Dendro or Hydro afflicted enemy makes them bleed and take dot equal to a percentage of the character's atk, and hitting a Pyro or Cryo afflicted enemy gives a small Physical dmg bonus.
    This would make room for new Physical dps characters of elements other than Electro and Cryo, that could work without necessarily needing Superconduct. Still, even if all of these "reactions" for Physical were applied for Geo too, the element wouldn't go much further than where it stands today. It is without saying that Geo needs a rework, and HoYoverse is wild for not fixing it and missing out on billions of dollars by making an entire class of characters unusable and disliked by the entire playerbase. The mono geo route they took in 2.3 was probably the most expensive mistake in the history of the company.

    In the current version (4.2) I would rank Pyro below Cryo albeit only very slightly. The problem with Pyro at the moment is its lack of support units, yes we know that Bennett and Xiangling are present but in abyss, they almost always want to be comped with one another because one provides battery and one provides intense Pyro application. Compared to Cryo, which have a 5-star support (Shenhe), variety of healers (Diona, Mika, and recently added Charlotte), and utility and application (Kaeya, Rosaria, Layla), it's no surprise that Cryo has a more [great] variety than that of Pyro.
    Like seriously, Amber, Xinyan, Dehya (no hate to these characters, only mentioned because /something/ is lacking in their kit) add only a little and even arguably no value when put in a team composition. The last "great" 4-star support was Thoma, who got recently buffed in 3.0 following the Burgeon reaction. But even then Pyro only incentivizes you to use the "go-to" supports Bennett and Xiangling.
    All of Pyro's 5 stars are catered to damaging, and only one *can* be a support when built in a full HP build. Not to mention, it's the only element (in 4.2 atleast) that only has one healer in its roster!

    I fully agree with the list, especially the pyro part being xiangling and bennett the element. in fact, if xiangling was electro i think she could be just as good if not better. It's definitely the most basic element in the game, buff damage consistently. it will never be bad but.... dendro's crazy reactions have frankly broadened the scope (which is a good thing).
    Of course, hydro is the best element and anyone arguing that is living the past. it enables everything, and genshin is about enabling.
    All good points here and I think this list is pretty objective vs the cryo/pyro placement being a bit debatable, but pyro has bennet and xiangling as its power core which are 4* which is why I definitely agree with cryo being worse. also fun note, klee might be the best pyro carry for speedrunning now which I think is really cool that the first unique 5* pyro is now the fastest.
    electro vs pyro is still an interesting topic. I personally agree electro is better because I find most their damage is frontloaded or safe. most the best taser teams are even more safe than chain freeze, due to them often using beidou and xinqiu for an 85% damage decrease +minor healing. and aggravate teams having their dps condensed into the first few seconds makes it not only a good low level strategy (due to a lot of the damage being focused on levels rather than artifacts). it also has a really high ceiling with good artifacts mainly crit stats to just burst everything.
    also on geo. NAVIA LEAK SPOILERS

Sorry but yoimiya unless whaling doesn't compare to the current klee team.
      Jamie (a speedrunner/theory crafter) posted a really in depth video on why she's so good now. But I'll summarize.
      Furina gives klee marachaussee as a set, which by itself is like a 12-20% DPS increase over past sets. Klee as a unit applies so much pyro not even xinqiu could supply it. So she was religated to mono pyro which had some problems, the big one being the really long setup time as you had to swirl with kazuha twice in the rotation.
      The furina team fixes that + added DPS.
      Klee, kazuha, Bennett, furina.
      Bennett is on maidens beloved invested in healing. He can heal 10k per tick which is over half the HP of all your characters when built properly (as in few to no hp% substats. This is why I say it's more a hyper resin investment team), which triggers furina overheal and it becomes enough to sustain furinas draining.
      Its on par with hutao for DPS for sure, it's really smooth to play (unlike hutao). Is not con or weapon dependant at all, unlike hutao.
      Overall it's a big upgrade for klee that definitely propels her to such a high spot.

    Also, The fact that the end game is more into time trial battle rather than survival, is also the reason Geo went to the 'worst' elements
    Geo character practically carrying their elements, not the other way around
    Geo really in need a "Nilou" that can add / buff crystalized.
    But different than Nilou that only buff Dendro + Hydro (which is restrictive, and for many people found it 'boring')...
    A crystalized buffer characters can open many possible party because Crystalized can be made from pyro-hydro-cryo-electro
    ---
    I honestly doesnt consider "Physical" as elements compared to others because everyone other than catalyst users can be build into physical attacker (Not efficient, but still can)

    I would’ve loved it if geo and physical had reactions with each other to make both of them more relevant. It would solve Physical not existing and Geo being too consolidated to function.
    Give it something like giving enemies a Geo Aura, with physical attacks making a “Smash” reaction. Or maybe Physical attacks can have their own reaction that only reacts to itself-consistent physical charged attacks will give a “Bleed” debuff that simply does a little bit of damage over time. This status effect can also be a catalyst to a vastness of reactions based off of Physical Damage, with Geo being its strongest reaction. Something like the following:
    *Crumble* - Bleed + Geo. Sends out a Geo Resonance (similar to Zhongli’s Pillar) that can also trigger onto other enemies and nearby Geo Constructs as a chain reaction. Enemies hit by this resonance take damage and receive -50% Def & Geo Resistance for 8 seconds. Triggering this effect on another bleeding enemy will create another Resonance source.
    *Scorching* - Bleed + Pyro. Basically greatly increases Bleed Damage.
    *Bogged* - Bleed + Hydro. Reduces Enemy Healing Effectiveness -50%, and its DoT sustained from the enemy will heal the active party member by a % of the amount of damage dealt.
    *Static-Induced* - Bleed + Electro. Creates a field around the enemy that inflicts a % of damage from its DoT and Electro Aura onto any other enemies inside the field for every tick of DoT induced.
    *Frostbitten* - Physical + Cryo. Reduces enemy movement speed and attack speed by 50%. Attacking a frostbitten enemy grants a 6 second buff that can inflict a Cryo aura onto an enemy that is attacked by via normal attacks.

    A new shield/crystalize related artifact set could help geo a bit I think.
    Geo is a pretty comfy element, with essentially every character being able to provide shield support through crystalize, so maybe an artifact set similiar to hue's clam could bring some life into these comps. Basically a spiky shield dynamic, in which bonus revenge dmg is dealt depending on how many hits the shield takes/etc.
    Definitely not the only remake geo needs, but the aspect of every geo character being a potential shielder is a pretty interesting one imo.
    Also with furina's release i desperately hope we get a geo healer. I've been using her with itto for the memes, and it's unironically pretty enjoyable. Still you sacrifice gorou's 3d geo member bonus, bcs you need a healer.

    • @3kxi761
      @3kxi761 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably comes down to the characters most often used (thoma requires some more care in rotations in comparison to kuki or em raiden etc) and also the fact that if you dont apply hydro fast enough you get burning which is not a meta reaction in comparison to quicken (quickbloom teams are more common than teams with burning reaction)

    • @calliope-greii
      @calliope-greii ปีที่แล้ว +1

      burgeon is a lot more finicky because if you apply pyro at the wrong time you get burning and then you lose out on blooms until you remove the burning and it’s a huge damage loss

    • @jaysoncayetano2943
      @jaysoncayetano2943 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe cuz sometimes it burns sometimes it vapes??

    • @deltaspecies1697
      @deltaspecies1697 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Basically its cuz burning acually harmful for a burgeon comp. If u trigger a burn,u cant get any burgeons untill u take care of that burning aura. If u compared burning to electro charged which hyperbloom teams have,its a much much worse reaction. EC dosnt screw ur bloom generation,it acually helps u to get more blooms. Also u get quicken in hyperbloom teams as well so units like alhaitham or cyno can to alot of dmg utilizing that as well.
      Also,thoma as a trigger is just inferior to raiden and kuki in thier respective comps and the semi reliance on a healer for burgeon introduces more problems. Kuki in hyperbloom consolidates both healer and hyperbloom trigger role while thoma is only there as a burgeon trigger. So u need to dedicate another slot for a healer in a burgeon team. Meanwhile hyperbloom dont need to do that.

    I bought a backbone earlier in the year and returned it. Havent checked recently but as of four months ago there was no controller support for genshin and unless you want people spying on your usage stay away from the freewear that maps touch to controller. Dendro really is a double edged sword. While it drives many of the top teams. That has come at the cost of every none denrdo team. Regardles if how you look at. It really has powercrept the game. I for one am looking forward to dendro shields and heavily dendro and dendro reaction resistant enemies so hoyo can bring down the overall hp pool of enemies. The fact that you can still brute force yourself through the chicken chamber with a dendro teams speaks words

  • @onryu

    Geo really needs a improvement with added reactions with the others. Maybe a rework where in addition to the crystalize, a new effect that adds a element over the enemy for a longer period of time, allowing for a enemy to be affected by more than one element at a time, like double swirl does. Like for example could have Soften (Hydro +Geo), Magma (Pyro+Geo), Dust (Anemo+Geo), Glacial (Cryo+Geo) Growth (Dendro+Geo) Grounded (Electro+Geo), each allowing for additional reactions to affect the enemy. This way now you can have a Geo included in various teams, and not just mono Geo

  • @samkeiser9776

    I feel like if there was a Geo character that could convert shields into attacks, that’d be the most obvious good Geo character, but because there’s not one, it’s just a weak element. It really doesn’t help that we haven’t gotten Geo characters in forever. Navia is looking kind of like that, but it’s hard to say.
    Also Geo could’ve had a dendro reaction smh.
    With natlan on the horizon though, I think we’ll probably get pyro buffs.

    day 10 of asking vars for his cryo element analysis (There's hope considering this video guys!)
    I understand that this video like most other content talking about the strength of the elements in the game is subjective and as you said numerous times, the placement of most elements could be argued based on circumstance and content being tackled. I just found the order being very similar to my own and the order that a group of my friends came up with as a very interesting coincidence. The idea that a content creator I respect views the game and its mechanics in a similar way was a surprisingly nice thing to find out today.
    Thanks for the enjoyable video as always vars, enjoy your day.

  • @jinx3709

    well, they made themselves pretty clear that physical is not an element, so it won't get any benefit in foreseeable future.. but they can surely make some adjustments like phys buffers or atk-spd enhancers to keep their existing character look strong (tho Eula is already too strong by her own). As for Geo.. I want to see how Navia saves geo or just make it another gimmick but honestly speaking, I see geo as a defensive element which need not to react with others to make it viable cuz that's not what geo characters supposed to be doing to begin with.
